La Casona - Bar Rescue Update

$

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are once again in Las Vegas, Nevada to rescue La Casona.  La Casona is a Mexican bar/restaurant that has a 40-year history and was purchased during the pandemic.  Parents Victor and Claudia got their daughter Phoebe to put her name on the mortgage, which is putting her future in jeopardy. The family is struggling to pay their staff and were recently evicted from their home, so they are currently living above the bar.  This is also the 200th episode of Bar Rescue.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of La Casona like all bars so far during this season. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for La Casona since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Wonderful Authentic Food. Service is great. Music too! Try this place, you will not regret it!"
  • "Authentic, and I mean AUTHENTIC Mexican food! Perfect. The ambiance, waitresses, and the food, is perfect. Don't believe me? Try for yourself."
  • "Very good place to spend a good night, good coming, good food, the perfect place for those of us who like to sing. On your Karaoke nights, 100% recommended!"
  • "Great place family restaurant with karaoke. Good food great customer service"

Negative Reviews:
  • "This place is disgusting and I don't recommend to anyone they took 45 mins for drinks horrible service the food Was nasty"
  • "Not worth going. Food served Luke warm to cold, for Mexican food it lacks flavor, expensive drinks and two dollars for a glass of tapwater. In Las Vegas you can do much better than this and not even try hard. I live only two blocks away and was hoping for great results after they did the bar rescue for a TV program. However it hasn't really helped any quality whatsoever."
  • "This is the worse place I ever been in my traveling life. Don't even waste your money going there, the food is trash, bad service and they serve you wherever they want, not what you order. I would never go back to this place."
  • " Last night I was humiliated by a waitress who claims to be in charge of the place by following me only for some reason to take my temperature, even when the others who were already there before me asked her why I had not asked them the same. This same woman that I don't even know her name has already gained fame of overcharging in the bill"
  • "Nice people but you get what they want to give you. They couldn't care less what you ordered.
  • My wife ordered a cheese enchilada with no hot sauce. They said we don't have enchiladas but we'll see what we can do. She got some chicken in corn tortillas buried in the hottest sauce ever. She couldn't eat it."

    • The reviews aren't too great before or after the makeover.

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of La Casona and the reviews for the bar/restaurant are mixed.  The reviews before the makeover were somewhat negative and they haven't improved much in the few months since Bar Rescue visited.  The positive reviews like the food, atmosphere, and karaoke night while the negative reviews talk about bad food, slow service, and the restaurant giving whatever food they want to customers despite what they ordered.  Hopefully after the episode airs, they are able to improve so things start to turn around.

Nevada Brew Works - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are once again in Las Vegas, Nevada to rescue Nevada Brew Works.  Nevada Brew Works is a family-owned brewery that was forced to open during the pandemic.  The owner Jason is supposedly over $700,000 in debt and at risk of losing his house as it was used for collateral.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Nevada Brew Works like all bars so far during this season. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Nevada Brew Works since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Great beer selection. Ample seating indoors and outdoors. Staff super friendly and made us feel welcome. Situated right next door to HUDL so if you want to do the brewery row crawl like we did it makes it easy. I recommend the golden blond ale if you're wanting something crisp and light when the heat is blazing outside."
  • "Had to stop in for a quick brew and the NBW Hazy IPA was amazing!!! A lot of outdoor seating with shade. We ending up sitting inside the staff was so friendly and accommodating they moved two tables together for us."
  • "If you are looking for a great place to eat in the Arts District, you have to try Nevada Brew Works. They offer lots of great craft beers and pub food. My wife had the skinny burger with a side of the best onion rings we have ever had. I ordered the chicken wings and they were delicious. The service was fast and friendly and they offer plenty of outside seating."
  • "Excellent drinks, brews, and pizza! Enjoyed sitting outside, the smell of wood fire is lovely. Staff was awesome, highly recommend!"
  • "What a place!! Huge patio plus lots of seating inside. Bourbon flight was great as was the beer. Too many to try in one sitting. Oh, and the pizza. Excellent. The service was too notch. We had a great time and will be back, with friends."
  • "This is by far the best brewery in Vegas and the atmosphere is amazing. We took our kids here and they had as much fun as "the adults" did. Their patio is huge and the kids were able to run around in between stuffing their face with pizza, huge pretzels, and obviously ice cream. And the beer was incredible. If your looking for a fun place to hang out one afternoon while you're in Vegas with great beer, tasty food, and super fair prices, this is your spot! We will definitely be going back."
  • "Great Beer! Great Food! This is a go to spot for my wife and I, and friends as they have one of the best burgers ever, The NV Brew Works Burger. Atmosphere is relaxing and always a good time."
  • "Went with a couple of friends from work. We sat outside and had some food and beer. Excellent atmosphere. Not cheap, but not overly expensive either. Diverse clientele. One of my new faves."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Don't waste your time here! There are lots of great breweries nearby, and while the pizza and beer was good, the service was extremely subpar. We went twice, once during the weekend and once during the week, during both occasions both the wait staff and the pour staff treated us slowly and begrudgingly. They seemed genuinely annoyed when asking for silverware or asking questions about the menu on both occasions that we were there. Not a hospitable atmosphere to the point that it was noticeable."
  • "I had the Nevada brew pizza which had pepperoni, sausage, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms. It was pretty basic, if I'm being honest. The teriyaki wings were also okay. Nothing really special about this place. The jam cider they offered was good though. However, I won't be coming here again."

Badlands Saloon - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are once again in Las Vegas, Nevada to rescue Badlands Saloon.  Badlands Saloon is one of the oldest gay bars in Las Vegas and has been around for about 30 years.  The current owners bought the bar in January 2019 and they flourished at first. Then the pandemic hit, and the bar had to close for six months and the staff was furloughed.  Badlands Saloon was losing $5,000 to $10,000 a month and they were unable to have their normal entertainment due to capacity restrictions.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Badlands Saloon like all other bars this season. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Badland's Saloon since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Welllllll about 3 hours in I turned and had a revaluation that I landed myself in a kind of bar that I’d never been in before and ladies for the memories I say thank you for helping me attempt to shut Vegas down tonight. Decent drink prices I had a jack and coke single as usual and was $6.73. Amazing atmosphere actually!!!! Goodnight Vegas"

  • Here are the reviews for Badlands Saloon from Yelp and Google
  • Jon Taffer rescued a bar in season 3 and named it Badlands, and that bar has closed

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Badlands Saloon and there has only been one review of the bar since the makeover, which was positive.  The makeover was just two months ago, so with limited reviews it was hard to get an idea of how the bar has been doing.  A recent local news story that featured Badlands Saloon said business has improved with the summer months and with Price celebrations.  Like other bars this season, as tourism picks up in Las Vegas, the bar business should also improve.

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Pahrump, Nevada to rescue VFW Post 10054.  VFW Post 10054 opened in 1979 and is a staple in the community for the veterans that go there and for the locals who go there to gamble.  Marty Aguiar is the post commander and says the pandemic has had a big impact on the VFW Post.  Also, his wife is facing a battle with cancer and he will soon have to step aside to help her. With the amount of visitors down, the VFW Post is wondering if they will be able to stay open.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer obviously kept the name of VFW Post 10054.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for VFW Post 10054 since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:

  • "Good was good. The staff was great. Breakfast for two was $15 total. Threw on two Bloody Mary's from the bar for $2.25 each. Really nice deal for under $20. The only negative was that it really smoky in both sides (bar side and food service side). Would have liked to hang for a bit, but the smoke was too much. Maybe if outside is an option later in the season it might be better."
  • "The Post is great! Anyone and everyone is welcome here! it was taco tuesday, met the Post Commander! Stop in and enjoy yourself!"

The prices were not only reasonable but the drinks are amazing. It is a great place to have a few or a lot of drinks and get day drunk. 10/10"

The Roost (True Grit Tavern) - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Maricopa, Arizona to rescue True Grit Tavern.  In 2015, Ralph Skrzypczak borrowed $150,000 from his father to open True Grit Tavern.  The bar started off well and was eventually doing $100,000 to $120,000 a month but is now supposedly $500,000 in debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of True Grit Tavern to The Roost and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Roost since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "My son and I stopped in to eat and catch part of the Suns game. Our server, Josh, was exceptional. We chose 2 items off the new menu, Bison trip tip and the Hot Chick n cheez, they were delicious! This just became a place we will go to for the food and service. Definitely recommend."
  • "This bar has everything you need...great food and a great atmosphere! I have gone here twice since the reopening because it's THAT good. The food is top notch and for a great price! The servers are so so friendly as well! You guys gotta try it for yourselves!! I had the Mac n cheese and my husband had the bison French dip sandwhich, both amazing choices! We were taking bites of each others meals haha!"
  • "Previously known as True Grit I would say they have made some much needed improvements. The staff and service they now provide is above average and a welcome change. We ordered drinks and wings and were pleasantly surprised to see some consistency in the cook and quality of the wings. The sauces are very good and the quantity of sauce is much improved. The decor is better and the inside overall is much cleaner feeling and looking. I am happy to be able to add this destination back to our list of places to enjoy an evening, we had gone from weekly customers to saying we would never go back. I guess being in bar rescue worked!"
  • "Full 360 turnaround compared to how true grit used to be. Food was good, beer was cold, fast and great service. The overall new face lift of this place was a plus. Definitely going to be coming back more often. Keep up the Good work."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Now it's the roost and we have ordered a couple times. The garden salad is just sad. And they changed the batter for their fried foods now, instead of delicious beer batter now it's like they went to frys and bought frozen onion rings and made them. We ordered wings tonight as well as salad and onion rings. The rings and salad arrived with no ranch after we asked for ranch. And the wings...so disappointing. Instead of that perfect crunch and perfectly sauced, the wings were so fatty and soft, no crunch at all. And the sauce was literally non existent. We asked for Buffalo hot and saucy and what we got looked like a dry rub that sat in the sun for awhile... I hope they get better, I would really like to enjoy this place again."
  • "It's ok. Just ok. Was better when it was True Grit Tavern. They took a bunch of good menu items off and added weird yuppie items in its place. It's way too dark. The high boy tables have chairs that are wayyyyyy too heavy. Oh and they have a Bitcoin ATM.....in Maricopa. Guess the makers of Bar Rescue convinced them these were all good ideas."
  • "The server we had was amazing. The problem is it was to dark. The chairs were the most uncomfortable chairs ever. Couldn't stay long because it hurt my legs and back. They need more low tables for those who has legs issues and back problems. Most likely won't go back because of those things. It was better before cause of the tables and more light."
  • "Service was poor/slow. Sent one dish back as it did not taste right and it was not removed from our bill. Only positive thing i can think of was that the beer was cold. Will not be back."
  • "Bar rescue makeover?! 😂 That's a joke! The only difference was they took regular tables out and put high bar tables in. It's was extremely dark and nothing changed as far as the food, terrible as always. Plain and nothing to write home about."

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to change the name of True Grit Tavern to The Roost and the bar has kept the name.  The reviews for The Roost are mixed with people liking the food and the service.  The negative reviews complain about the bar being too dark and people who do not like the changes made by Bar Rescue such as the high top tables. Rob seems like he is happy with the Bar Rescue makeover and gaining national exposure despite being portrayed as the villain on this episode.  This is also the 2nd bar that Jon Taffer decided to name The Roost on Bar Rescue

Brenda's Inferno, which appeared on season seven of Bar Rescue has closed. The bar was originally named Armadillo Grill until Jon Taffer decided to change the name to Brenda's Inferno, which the bar kept until closing. The bar closed in December 2021, and in November 2021, they posted the following message on their Facebook page:
"After 24 years in business, Brenda's Inferno/Armadillo Grill is closing it's doors for good. Our last day is Sunday December 5th, 2021. Thank you for your business and your friendship. The people that worked here and that came in to the 'Dillferno' have made the last 24 years the fun place it is. There are SOOO many great memories that I will cherish. Wishing you all the best. Thanks for an amazing 24 years!!
Cheers,
Brenda

Shortly after they closed in December, Brenda's Inferno held a liquidation sale to sell all of the items inside of the bar.

Brenda's Inferno appeared on Bar Rescue in September 2020 and the episode was filmed in March 2020.  Here is the detailed update done when the episode aired.

Lucky 66 Bowl (Great 66 Entertainment Center) From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Lucky 66 Bowl in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which appeared on season 7 of Bar Rescue has closed.  In March 2020, Lucky 66 said they had to close due to COVID and posted on Facebook, "By order of the governor of the state of a New Mexico, we are ordered to close until the state allows us to re open."

Almost a year later in January 2021, Lucky 66 revealed that they would not reopen and posted, "It unfortunate that I have to tell all of the patrons that have supported for the last 18 years, that we have to close the business. Not only the virus, COVID-19, but the policy of our governor has placed hardships and financial challenges that the company is unable to overcome."

In June 2021, they followed up with another message, "We appreciate the interest in our bowling center, However the financial requirements needed to reopen the center after the Governor forced our closure for mote than a year was more than we could handle. Thank you for remembering our and for your support. We appreciate you so very much."

So, it appears that government regulations shut down Lucky 66 Entertainment Center at first, and the owners decided not to reopen when they were allowed to.  The Lucky 66 update from when the episode originally aired stated that the owner Mike posted a lot of political thoughts on his Facebook page, so I am sure he was not happy with being shut down by the Governor.

Lucky 66 Bowl had their name changed to Great 66 Entertainment Center during their Bar Rescue makeover, but they quickly changed their name to Lucky 66 Entertainment Center and they kept that name until they closed.  Lucky 66 Entertainment Center has been marked 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates page

Libad's Bar & Grill in New Bedford, Massachusetts which appeared on season 3 of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar is listed as closed on all review sites and they have not posted on their Facebook page since 2019.

Libad's was listed for sale in February 2021 and here is the real estate listing that had the following description, "South End bar/restaurant on Clarks Point in New Bedford. Chosen to be a location filmed for the movie "Jungleland". Some items filmed will be sold with business and real estate. Full liquor license, stock and inventory to pass with sale. Handicap accessible, off street parking with back lot. The bar was on spike TV's bar rescue... episode "a bar full of bull". Net operating income see Agent."

The bar took about a year to sell and sold for $315,000 in January 2022.

Libad's Bar & Grill was slightly renamed to Libad's Seaside Tavern during their Bar Rescue episode, but they went back to their original name.  The online reviews for the bar were actually pretty good and they stayed open well after their Bar Rescue appearance in 2013.  Libad's Bar & Grill has been marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates page

Legacy Bar & Grille (Game Time Sports Grill) Has Closed - Bar Rescue Update

Legacy Bar & Grill in Arlington, Tennessee which appeared on season 6 of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar closed for good in late 2020/early 2021 and put the blame on the pandemic and health department restrictions.

On December 28, 2020, the bar posted on Facebook,
 "Dear friends and family,
As you may or may not know, The Legacy Bar & Grill got into a little bit of trouble a couple of weeks ago with the Health Department and their new guidelines.
We have been inspected and given the ok that we are good. But they  still have not given the go ahead to reopen. With that being said we have decided not to reopen. Bills keep coming and with 2 weeks no income it’s put us in a financial bind.
The restrictions put into place by the Shelby County Government is restricting us to 25% capacity that only allows for 30 customers at a time. They have essentially ripped the rug out from under my business and are making it impossible to continue doing business, pay my employees and make any kind of profit.
This decision has not come easily. I have employees to think about as well as my family. I also have to consider my health and well being.
I am going to take this opportunity to spend time with my 3, soon to be 4 grandchildren, take a trip or two with my husband and make my health a priority.
Thank you to all of my friends and family that have been so supportive of us for the last several years! We appreciate and love each and every one of you and we look forward to this next chapter in our lives.
Thank you for the memories!"

Then on February 6, 2021, the bar posted this on Facebook,
"Ok, most people know that The Legacy was shut down by the SCHD on Dec. 14,2020 for “breaking the rules” I will OWN that one. But when a great band like Twin Soul is playing it’s hard to keep control. We as owners and employees did everything that the SCHD told us we had to do to reopen. We were inspected and PASSED on Dec. 21, 2020. We ask if we could reopen and she informed us that she would turn it in and Bruce Randolph would have to approve it and send someone to take the sign off the door so we could reopen. Another week passed and no word. So we made the tough decision to close our doors permanently. Well!!! I’m starting to adjust to there just no being a Legacy in Arlington anymore. Owner locked us out, everything is going downhill!
THEN I see this on the news last week! I wasn’t going to post anything! But I have just one question.......Who the hell buried the Legacy paperwork to keep us from reopening!! I wanted to reach out to News Channel 3 to let them know they had their information completely wrong. Who has this power! Who ever you are I hope your happy!"

So, it appears they violated the health department rules and had to shut down temporarily, but the owners made the decision to close permanently after that.

Legacy Bar & Grille was originally named Game Time Sports Grill until Bar Rescue changed their name during their episode.  They did keep the name given to them by Bar Rescue and here is the detailed update from when their episode aired.

Pacific Coast Wine Bar (Brix Sunset Beach) Is Closed - Bar Rescue Update

Brix Sunset Beach in Huntington Beach, California from season 4 (3rd set) of Bar Rescue is closed.  During the Bar Rescue makeover, the bar was renamed to Pacific Coast Wine Bar, but they changed the name back right away.

In looking at the liquor licenses for the address, the bar has been sold a few times and the bar now goes by the name of Sunset Lounge Bottoms Up and here is their Facebook page and Instagram.

The interesting part about this is the liquor license for Sunset Lounge Bottoms Up lists Suzanne Blevins as the owner.  Suzanne appeared on season 7 of Bar Rescue as the owner of Bottoms Up Bar & Grill.  So, someone that appeared on an episode of Bar Rescue ended up buying another bar that appeared on the show.  As stated in the Bottoms Up update, Suzi owns multiple bars and Sunset Lounge Bottoms Up is referred to as the 6th Bottoms Up location.

Brix Sunset Beach appeared on Bar Rescue in 2015 and here was the update for that episode.  Pacific Coast Wine Bar (Brix Sunset Beach) has been marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates page

Fogline Bar & Grill Owner Convicted of Cocaine Smuggling - Bar Is Closed

Fogline Bar & Grill in Hayward, California which appeared on season 5 of Bar Rescue has closed.  Lemack "Lee" Bellot was the owner who appeared on the Bar Rescue episode, and he was recently convicted of smuggling cocaine through SFO airport.

Lee Bellot was charged in a 2019 indictment, but details about the case were recently revealed as there was a trial set to happen.  According to the indictment, Lee met with an undercover DEA informant who was posing as an Atlanta area drug dealer.  In meetings that happened at Fogline Bar & Grill, Lee said he had a connection with someone who could sneak drugs around the country.  He had allegedly been paying airline employees to allow drugs to be smuggled past security. He was quoted as allegedly saying, "I had a connect. I’d run 10 bricks to Philly, 10 bricks to Ohio, and 10 bricks of china white to Miami, I used but my boy got popped. But I did find someone else recently.”

Some details about the case from Mercury News:

In one instance, on Nov. 28, 2018, the confidential source allegedly checked luggage at San Francisco International Airport, at Bellot and Askew’s direction, which made it onto a flight without being flagged by screeners, prosecutors say. This occurred after the informant allegedly handed over $8,500 in cash for a smuggling fee.

In another case, the agent attempted to board a flight with sham cocaine, only to be stopped by the Transportation Security Administration, but the DEA intervened so that the undercover operation wouldn’t be revealed, prosecutors say.

In early March 2022, Lee Bellot was found guilty of the charges against him according to Bay City News - one for attempting to aid and abet the possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine and another count for 5 kilograms or more of cocaine.  A date for sentencing has not been set, but he faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 plus restitution on the first count, as well as life in prison and a fine of $500,000 on the second count.

Fogline Bar & Grill was originally named Russel City Grill before Bar Rescue did the makeover and changed the name.  They did keep the new name and here is the detailed update for that episode.  The phone number to the bar is no longer in service, there is no current liquor license and a recent Yelp review stated, "Read news item that FEDS raided the place and drugs were found/distributed. Been there a few times, but it's location is not ideal for me. But, parking lot has a chain on it now."  All this coupled with the recent conviction of Lee, Fogline Bar & Grill has been marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates page

Stadium Club Bar & Grill (Gilly's Sports Bar) - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Dunwoody, Georgia to rescue Gilly's The Spot.  Gilly's is owned by Willie Chandler who has been in the hospitality industry his whole life. The bar is supposedly losing between $2,500 and $5,000 a month and Willie is supposedly $275,000 in debt and 60 days from closing.  The kitchen is so dirty that even the employees will not eat the food there.  Jon needs to get Willie to regain his passion for his bar in hopes that things turn around.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Gilly's The Spot to Stadium Club Bar & Grill and the bar went back to their original name of Gilly's. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Stadium Club Bar & Grill/Gilly's since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Best dive bar in the area, now it's even better that it's been remodeled and now called Stadium Club. New decor as well as a Friday night DJ."
  • "This is a cool bar seems to have some branding issues , we know it as "gully's" the menu says "the spot" and the sign says something else. Things have changed aesthetically since last I was there. There were some updates and the menus changed. Got real busy in a Saturday night it was karaoke. Food is pretty good here . I think the menu is too new for the employees I ordered the slider trio.. three different sliders but I got all one type. No big deal what I had was good so no complaints. It's give that dive bar feel it's a good time. Service isn't the fastest so if you want things right away you might have problems. But everyone was nice."
  • "Very friendly staff. Burgers are great. Check out their daily specials! The place has a new name above the door, something like Stadium Sports Grill. Wouldn't recommend if you're pressed for time."
  • "I had gone to Gilly’s for the first time to celebrate my 21st birthday and it unexpectedly became one of the most unforgettable birthdays ever!! The vibe inside was nice. Our waittress Jenna was SO AWESOME!! Everyone at the place was super nice and welcoming. Their wings were DELICIOUS!! I got mango habanero! They made my birthday so fun and special. Definitely going back! Thank you guys!!!"
  • "Great place. The food was delicious, the staff was friendly and they had a pool table and plenty of TV to watch sports. I was in town from Hawaii with my fiance and wanted to find a good wing spot since we were in the south. They did not disappoint. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Atlanta area who wants wants good sports bar vibe but with good food."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Restaurant opens at Noon, bartender/server showed up at 1215p. Our 4 plates were served separately, about every 5 minutes. I ordered grilled chicken cesar. Got the lettuce, but had to get it to go since the chicken arrived when everyone else was done eating. The kitchen was not short staffed, so not sure of the issue. We were the only customers for the hour we were there."
  • "Charged for a double, didn’t order one. Had a drink that was disgusting, was told I should had ordered something different. Automatic gratuity on 2 guests and a liquor tax. I’m done with this place"

    • Regarding the name change, Willie said, "I’m not getting rid of 45 years of history just because the building is curved, so we are going to go back to Gilly’s”
    • Overall, Willie said he was happy with the renovations.

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Gilly's The Spot to Stadium Club Bar & Grill, but the bar decided to change their name back to their original name of Gilly's.  The reviews for Gilly's are mostly positive with people liking the food and staff.  The owner Willie said he manufactured drama to get picked to be on Bar Rescue and he is happy with the renovations.  He didn't like the name change just because the building was curved and changed the name back to Gilly's to preserve history.

Ace's A Sporting Bar & Grill (Ace's Sports Hangar) - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in The Colony, TX to rescue Ace's Sports Hangar.  The owners Will and Candace Kuhn purchased the bar in August 2020 and they own multiple bars in the area.  They purchased the bar during the pandemic and Candace has been running the bar with hopes of opening additional bars.  After a year in business, the bar is draining the finances of the owners and is supposedly losing $15,000 a month.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Ace's Sports Hangar to Ace's A Sporting Bar & Grill and the bar did keep the name, however the bar closed just a few months after the makeover. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Ace's A Sporting Bar since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

I will not do reviews for this update as there were minimal reviews and the bar is closed.

Other News and Links:
  • The Bar Rescue for Ace's Sports Hangar happened in November 2021.
  • Here is a preview video of the episode from the Bar Rescue Facebook page.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Will (owner), Candace (owner), Emily (bartender), and Jason (bartender)
  • Ace's A Sporting Bar was sold to new owners on January 31, 2022, just a few months after the Bar Rescue makeover.  Will posted the following message on his Facebook, "I wanted to take a minute to brag on Candace Goggans Kuhn for a minute. As most of you know we’ve had what feels like a dozen bar and restaurants over the past years. Always with candace designing them and me running them. Well today marks the day that Candace sold her first location. The colony was her baby from design to operations. Everyone remembers their first business deal or sale. Congratulations babe. You have this one in the books with more to come. Very proud of the business woman and partner you have become."
    • In February 2022, the new owners changed the name of Ace's to Twisted Bar & Grill.  Here is the Facebook page for that bar and all of the old Ace's Sports Hangar posts are also on that Facebook page.
  • When Will posted a screenshot of himself on Bar Rescue, somebody asked him what the story line was - "a drunk owner or disgruntled employee sabotaging the business?"  Will responded, "We turned down filming Addison for that reason a few years ago. This season and last are about saving locations down from covid restrictions. We have multiple locations so we don’t fit the idiot owner mold. They did take some shots at candace since this is the first location she’s operated but she did great."
    • So it seems Bar Rescue reached out to them several years back about one of his other bars, but they turned that opportunity down.
  • Here were the Ace's Sports Hangar reviews on Yelp and Google if you are interested.
  • The other Ace's Sports Hangar location in Richardson, TX remains open and here is that Facebook page

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to slightly change the name of Ace's Sports Hangar to Ace's A Sporting Bar & Grill and the bar did keep the name.  The makeover was done in November 2021 and the bar was sold to new owners just a few months later in January 2022.  As the new owners changed the name and concept, Ace's A Sporting Bar is considered 'Closed.'  Will and Candace continue to own and operate other bars in the area including a different Ace's Sports Hanger.  Also, it appears that Bar Rescue reached out to them in the past when they were in the area filming during previous seasons.

Char Bar & BBQ (The Brick Tavern) - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Sachse, Texas to rescue The Brick Tavern.  The Brick Tavern is owned by Charlene Winter who is a successful real estate executive who decided to get into the bar business.  She bought the bar in 2012 and it initially had success due to its loyal customer base. Charlene is supposedly $530,000 in debt and has tapped into her retirement funds. Jon needs to help Charlene to become a better boss and to help get her personal assistant Cassie to step up and lead the bar.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of The Brick Tavern to Char Bar & BBQ and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Char Bar & BBQ since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "We came to the Char Bar for the first time. Absolutely loved it! The Toasted Old Fashion and Apricot Mule were great! We also had the STP, so good. The brisket nachos were amazing. Abbey thanks s a great bartender."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Went to the grand opening last night 11/20/21. Probably the worst bbq if had in a while and the only plate that was fully eaten of our party of 8 was the loaded potato skins. Both new drinks, the one with rosemary and the bourbon one, were awful to drink...Understood and was patient with the servers but it's the food that will not be back for... Lots of bikers in the front entrance blocking the way, just FYI. Not sure if that bothers anyone but just was hard to walk around them to get in the restaurant."
  • "We heard the restaurant was going to be on the show BAR RESCUE, so we went to check it out. After the rescue, it was still awful. Not only do they not have any beers on tap, but they do not serve any local brews even in cans or bottles. The menu is limited to begin with, then when we placed our order, we’re told our item was only available on “special occasions.” (Although not noted so on the menu) The chips in our brisket nachos were clearly stale. Very. The cheese was fresh out of a cheese whiz can. The “brisket“ was ….let’s just say….not up to par. We ordered the pulled pork plate. The portion of pork was very very tiny, and more like pig knuckles. I literally have nothing good to say about the place. Even the barstools were wobbly, and the bathroom was disgusting. I would’ve hate to have seen it before the “rescue,” we surely would’ve ended up with food poisoning."
  • "Entry to restaurant was blocked by a group of bikers outside smoking. I am a smoker myself but that was ridiculous. We were one of two tables eating. Waited 30 minutes for them to even acknowledge us. They seemed confused over two separate menus. One had strange typos. We waited another 20 min for them to tell us they were out of BBQ. An hour after that we ended up with the worst nachos ever. The chips were soggy and the cheese was the cheapest stuff you can find in a can. We just paid the very over priced bill and left."
  • "Well bar rescue clearly did a terrible job and needs to go back. Maybe 5 people in there and while we were playing golden tee the table by us waited over 30 minutes for food, then were told they were out of what they ordered. Decor is ehhh... ok but wasted space and terrible service. Nope and nope."
  • "Burgers were terrible. Just soggy, no flavor. Order came out wrong. Typos all over menu. Service/atmosphere was fine, but would not eat there again."

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Arlington, Texas to rescue G Willicker's Bar.  G Willicker's was opened by Clarence Grider and the bar was initially a success.  Then in 2019, Clarence passed away and left the bar to his widow.  Just a year after that, his widow passed away, which left the bar in the hands of Clarence's three daughters.  Without any experience running a bar, the problems at the bar began to mount and the bar is supposedly losing over $100,000 a month.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of G. Willicker's Bar and added a sign that said, 'The GW.'  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for G Willicker's since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Fantastic place. Went for Wrestlemania weekend. The bartender, owners, regulars were extremely friendly. Will definitely come back when in Arlington. Great drinks at a great price. Bartender hand made of lead, so drinks are a lil strong and I have no problems with that at all."
  • "I would give 10 stars if I could. My buddy and I found this random place waiting to go to the Stadium and it was perfect. Dark, worn inn, great drinks, and the regulars/owners there were unbelievably nice. They even fed us for free! Will definitely be back. To Carmen, Casey, and Carrie, many more years of stressful success, and I can't wait to watch this place on Bar Rescue!! Cheers"

  • "Had a real blast here! The drinks were great, the staff was attentive. It almost had a, "Cheers" feel to it. I'll definitely be back!!"
  • "Really great atmosphere and super drink specials. Loved the new look and the staff was amazing! Enjoyed the talented karaoke as well."
  • "Great place to hangout with the homies & sing your favorite jams. Great bar service & chill place for drinks."

Negative Reviews:
  • "This place is dangerous. Disgusting. Very rude with terrible customer service. Very discriminatory. Two of my friends were groped here and one was physically assaulted. The bartenders drink behind the bar and started a physical altercation....Not friendly for women or POC, specifically."

Willicker's Bar and added a sign that said 'The GW.'  The reviews since the makeover are mostly positive with a lot of people complimenting the staff and atmosphere.  In an interview about the upcoming episode, Carmen, Caseye and Carrie said the Bar Rescue visit has invigorated them and the show coming to the bar was a saving grace.  So, they seem happy with the makeover and are also having a watch party at the bar to celebrate the episode airing.  It seems based on public records that their gross receipts for beverages were the highest ever just a few months after the Bar Rescue makeover.

Tropica Bar & Cafe (Confetti's) - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Norcross, Georgia to rescue Confetti's Bar & Grill.  The bar is owned by Scott Cohen who bought the bar in 2018 with the help of his father to fulfill a lifelong dream. After battling a childhood illness and losing his father, Scott is motivated to make Confetti's a success.  His lack of experience has caused the bar to suffer and he seems more interested in the social aspect of the bar instead of the business side.  He is an absentee owner and the bar is supposedly losing about $4,000 a month leaving him about $75,000 in debt and months away from closing.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Confetti's Bar & Grill to Tropica Bar & Cafe and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Tropica Bar & Cafe since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Had a blast. Saturday Night Karaoke w/ Kings Of Karaoke was Awesome"
  • "Fun place great Bartender. Bancia"

Negative Reviews:
  • "These people are something else. After waiting days for them to finalize my receipt they over charge me 40 bucks on tip. I didn't even leave a tip because the waitress at the bar didn't do anything worth of service. We order beer and shots and paid we didn't even sit at the bar. But to give yourself a tip even after I signed the receipt is ridiculous. Tried to call the bar...no response and mailbox was full. Smh...just disgusted with this place. Just know I will be reporting this bar to the BBB especially for all the extra activities that goes on in there."
  • "New name . Same poor service."
  • "We gave this place another chance because we heard bar rescue came and left so we figured hey why not? The place smells so bad I threw my clothes out and showered after. There are holes in the walls. The menus still say confettis as does Google… the fryer oil seemed old. The drinks were high priced. The owners were hanging out fixing cameras over our heads while we were trying to enjoy a beer. This place actually got worse after bar rescue came in. Can’t wait to see the episode if they choose to air it."
  • "Please do not go here if you’re on your lunch break. Me and my coworkers got here at exactly 12:10 we work 2 seconds away so this was very convenient. When we arrived it instantly smelled like cigarette smoke when walking in (there was somebody that was smoking in the back and they left the door open) to the point it was nauseating. It was literally 3 people at the bar and 3 other people in a booth we added 4 extra people so the place was not packed. We all had looked at the menu prior to arriving so we knew what we wanted and ordered instantly, around 12:15, our food did not come until 12:54 our lunch break is over at 1. The next problem was the serving size which was inadequate for the price, one person never got their food and walked back to work without eating and another person received their food but was highly disappointed (she asked for chicken tenders and when she received them it appeared that they had been fried in fish grease). The customer service was sub par after we placed our order she never came back to our table to check on us, she never updated us about the status of our orders, and once 2 of our orders came out she said nothing in regards to the other 2 orders, my coworkers had to ask and at which point 1 cancelled and the other received their food just to return it. This is not somewhere we will be revisiting."

SandTown Pub - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Atlanta, Georgia to rescue SandTown Pub.  The owner Fredericka Jones decided to open the bar in 2017 after working in the fast food industry for 40 years. Fredericka is not there too often and the staff is untrained and undisciplined, so she has turned to her daughter Amber to help manage the bar.  Fredericka is supposedly $200,000 in debt and has cashed in her 401k to help open the bar.  SandTown Pub is in danger of closing which would cause her to lose everything.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of SandTown Pub. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for SandTown Pub since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Had a good time here. Friendly neighborhood bar with great food and ample amount of TVs to catch a game or big event!"
  • "The food is always good and prepared well. The Impossible Burger is awesome. Thank you for being near my home."
  • "Very great food everything was made fresh. My waiter was the bomb and the manager even came by our table to check on us."
  • "The staff tonight was great! They worked hard and fast to tend to their customers. Food and drinks came fast and great! Kudos to you all and I hope things continue to get better."

Negative Reviews:
  • "We have visited here twice in the last two weeks and was served by Coco. She has made almost $50 dollars in tips, for two people , by manually adding an additional tip to my friend's credit card after she was given a tip once on the card and cash. We were told we have to "catch" to get a refund because they can't go in to credit card accounts but they sure can go in and add to your card! Trying to support black owned businesses. Im pissed"
  • "I WISH I COULD GIVE A ZERO. There's a bartender named Amber who is the owner's daughter. Extremely rude. Unknowledgeable on drinks. Horrible service. I called to let them know about the status of my food (WRONG). At first I only wanted to speak with a manager and express my feelings. Once they put Amber's rude self on the phone, she began arguing with me. And proceeded to hang up on me midsentence. Not recommended if amber is working. Get it to go."
  • "TERRIBLE STAFF......I went to this place last night and the service was horrible. One of the waitresses was so rude. She was upset because two young ladies that went with me, to celebrate my birthday, complained about their food. I asked her to come to the table and she proceeded to tell me I was being EXTRA...Yes she said that. One of the managers came out and had to drag her to the back. She was actually approaching me like she was going to hit me! She was actually charging me. We continued to have our drinks and the manager let her come back on the floor to work. Where does that happen....Sandtown Pub!!! We live 5 minutes down the street and I would love to have a weekly spot...This is not the one."
  • "This place is awful…I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!. The food is blahhh. The staff and owner are EXTREMELY RUDE. just not a good sports bar at all. Save your money people and run. The owner should just call it quits and SHUT DOWN!!!!"

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of SandTown Pub and the reviews for the bar since the makeover are somewhat negative.  There are a lot of complaints about the service and staff and some complaints about the food.  Most of the positive reviews complement the food.  The reviews before the makeover were also negative, so it seems not much has changed since the makeover and the same problems remain.
