Bar Rescue - Lucky's Corner Pocket (Lucky Leprechaun) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Davenport, Florida to rescue The Lucky Leprechaun Irish Saloon.  The Lucky Leprechaun is a bar owned by Terry Browne and his ex-wife Georgiann.  The bar has a lot of pool tables and owner Terry is illegally gambling on pool games against customers.  Terry also has a foul mouth and Jon Taffer needs to change his ways if the bar wants to succeed.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer changed the name of The Lucky Leprechaun to Lucky's Corner Pocket and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Lucky's Corner Pocket since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • ""Give it a shot." New ozonators eating up the smoke just fine. $1 Nathan's dogs will keep you satisfied between drinks. New taps / crisp cold beer. Free Wi-Fi. Good mix of pool/karaoke/DJs. If you haven't been here in awhile... check it out again."
  • "Big improvement. Still not my style"
  • "Roger is the man behind the bar. I've been going there for years when it was under a different management for the billiard leagues. One thing i love now is that there is NO smoking allowed inside. I wish them the best."
  • "Enough pool tables for all, a great place to make friends. Excellent and quick service, all of the bartenders are very nice and knowledgeable! Not to mention good lookin'"

Negative Reviews:
  • "Well it did not last long within one week this place smells like an Ash tray that has been sitting in a closet. I will find a new place to have a fresh relaxing beer. And not only that after bar rescue came to save this place. The old way is back stronger."
*Reviews from Yelp, Google, Facebook

Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in May 2017.
  • Here is a preview video of the episode from the Spike TV website.
  • Here is a Lucky Leprechaun Facebook Page and also a Lucky's Corner Pocket Facebook Page, both of which are active.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Georgiann (owner), Cailin, David and Roger
  • In a local article, Georgiann said her Bar Rescue experience was "interesting, a bit hectic, but overall, worthwhile." She also said the show spent about $80,000 on the makeover, with most money used to get the bar up to code.
  • There were a few negative reviews on Yelp about loud karaoke, but they seem to be left by the same people.
  • Bar Rescue moved a bunch of stuff from the bar into storage, which is now in Georgiann's garage (Link).
  • About a month after the makeover, the bar was still waiting on the air filtration system and the installation of a sign.  Companies were paid to do it, but it was not complete yet. (Link)
  • Lucky's Corner pocket was planning to have a Bar Rescue viewing party tonight, but it was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma which is expected to hit Florida pretty much as the episode airs.  Yesterday the bar said, "HURRICANE UPDATE: We will be closing our doors promptly at 10pm tonight! We will re-open when it becomes safe for people to travel on the roadways again!!! Stay safe everyone!!!"

Conclusion:

Lucky's Corner Pocket has kept the name given to them by Bar Rescue and there haven't been too many reviews since the makeover.  The reviews compliment the makeover, the bartenders, and the fact that there is less smoke inside.  Owner Georgiann has stated she is happy with the makeover done by Bar Rescue.  With the Bar Rescue episode airing as Hurricane Irma hits the bar, hopefully Lucky's Corner Pocket gets a favorable edit and the bar doesn't get damaged.

YNot Sports Pub in Everett, Washington, which was featured on season 5 of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar was renamed to The Forbidden Pub during the Bar Rescue makeover, but they quickly switched the name back to YNot Sports Pub.

The bar closed in early August 2017, and owner Yvette posted this on Facebook:
"Jon and I are very sad to announce that we have closed our Doors to Ynot. It has been a WONDERFUL 4 YEARS! We are going to miss everyone immensely!! We are looking forward to the new chapter in our lives. We appreciate everyone so much for all your friendships and support!!!!!
We are going to open the doors today at 1pm-8pm and Friday the 4th 1pm-8pm to sell bar memorabilia. Again Thank you for so many great years!!!!!! :)"
According to the local paper, it appears the bar has some outstanding federal tax liens as well.  On the county records website, the latest lien on 6/20/2017 was for $14374.88.

This is the 3rd bar from season 5 of Bar Rescue to close and the Bar Rescue Updates Page has been updated.  Here is the original update for YNot Sports Pub (Forbidden Pub) if you are interested.

Garrison Tavern From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Garrison Tavern (formerly Brickhouse) in Colorado Springs, Colorado from season 5 of Bar Rescue has closed.  Someone who appeared on the show reached out to let me know the bar closed and the bar is also listed as 'closed' on Yelp.  Garrison Tavern closed sometime in late July/early August and their Facebook page has been taken down.

This shouldn't be much of a surprise as the bar was listed for sale about a week after Bar Rescue finished their makeover (and before the show aired).  A new gastropub will be opening in the location and is undergoing extensive renovations.  The new bar is expected to open late 2017/early 2017.

Garrison Tavern is now listed as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page.

The Comeback From Bar Rescue Has Closed

The Comeback Bar & Grill in Tucker, Georgia from season 3 (1st set) of Bar Rescue has closed.  The landlord of the building reached out to me to let me know the bar closed on October 22, 2017.  The Comeback is marked as 'Closed' on Google, the bar website has been taken down, and the phone number no longer works.  A Facebook post by a patron says that the bar was bought out, but other than that there isn't too much information on why the bar closed.  The Comeback Bar & Grill Facebook page stopped posting on October 15th, so they didn't provide a reason for closing.

The Comeback Bar & Grill was originally named Barlow's before Bar Rescue did the makeover in 2013 and they kept the name of the bar.  The Comeback is now marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page and this is the 8th bar from season 3 (1st set) of Bar Rescue to close.

Downstairs Bar + Kitchen From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Downstairs Bar + Kitchen in Englewood, Colorado from season 5 (2nd set) of Bar Rescue has closed.  A few people let me know that the bar was closed, the bar is listed as 'Closed' on Yelp and Google, and the Downstairs Bar Facebook Page stopped posting in July 2017.

It seems that the bar was sold and another bar named The Englewood Tavern opened in the location.  The owner of The Englewood Tavern posted on Facebook that he purchased the bar in early August 2017, so Downstairs Bar + Kitchen closed around the same time.

Downstairs Bar + Kitchen was originally named State Pub until Bar Rescue came and did their makeover.  The bar kept the name given to them by Bar Rescue until they closed.  Downstairs Bar + Kitchen is now listed as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page. Also, here is the original update for the bar when the episode aired.

Speakeasy Bar & Grill (Second Line Co.) From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Speakeasy Bar & Grill in Kenner, Louisiana which appeared on season 5 (2nd set) of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar closed at the end of 2017 and a new bar has taken over the location.  The bar opening in its place is named Area 504 and seems to be a Latin themed bar/club.

On December 29th, 2017, owner Amanda posted this message on her Facebook page, "Keith, Barbara, and I would like to thank each and every friend, family member, employee and customer for the wonderful support the last 2 and a half years. It is official, we have made the decision to sell Speakeasy. It has been a long hard road, and collectively we have decided it is what is best. So with that being said, we will be having a big blow out Saturday night! We will be having music from 9pm-1am! Come have some fun with us!"

Speakeasy Bar & Grill also posted the following message on Facebook on January 4th, "We want to thank everyone for their support over the last 2 and half years. We are officially closed, and the new owners will be taking over on Monday!"

Speakeasy Bar & Grill was renamed to Second Line Co. by Bar Rescue, but they did change their name back to Speakeasy Bar & Grill after Bar Rescue left.  Here is the original update for the episode which was most known for owner Amanda twerking in the bar.  Speakeasy Bar & Grill is now marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page.

SoYo Craft Bar From Bar Rescue Has Closed

SoYo Craft Bar in Yonkers, New York which appeared on season 4 of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar was originally named Undisputed, but they were renamed to SoYo Craft Bar by Bar Rescue and the bar kept the name.  According to the local news, the bar was sold in January 2018 and a new Central American restaurant/bar will be opening in the building.

It is kind of surprising SoYo Craft Bar stayed open as long as it did.  There were many police incidents at the bar (65 between July 2015 and April 2016) including a shooting outside of the bar in August 2015.  Also, the bar was listed for sale around July 2016 for a price of $150,000.  So it took over two years for the bar to sell.

Here is the detailed update from the SoYo Craft Bar episode of Bar Rescue and SoYo Craft Bar is now listed as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Update Page.

Bar Rescue - The Legacy Bar & Grille (Game Time Sports Grill) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Arlington, Tennessee to rescue Game Time Sports Grill.  Game Time Sports Grill is a bar that is run by Cody, but his belligerent father is causing issues at the bar.  The kitchen is filthy at Game Time and the cook has a short temper.  To turn this bar around, Jon Taffer needs to clean up the bar and figure out a way to make the family work together.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer changed the name of Game Time Sports Grill to The Legacy Bar & Grill and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Legacy Bar & Grille since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Decent decor and service was good. Food was prepared properly and tasty. My wife had the Chicken Philly and tots and they were very good. I had the Fried Catfish with Onion Straws, cooked perfectly and crispy. Only drawbacks, they did not have tartar sauce and siracha for my fish but I made due."
  • "The food and service was great, owner changed channels to accommodate all the football that was on today.Food came out hot and delicious, drink's selection was good. But how can a shot of tequila cost more than the drink that had the same shot tequila in it?? .....So all and all a great experience!!! Highly recommend, good service, good food and locally owned."
  • "Went to see some friends play(Musicboxx) great band BTW check them out. Very cool atmosphere! Would recommend"
  • "Love this place. Nice people, Jessica was so nice from the minute I came in. Bartender and staff cool. Chicken wings were really good. Ill be back.."
  • "Good service, recommend the angus burger........."
  • "Last night was our first time there. It was very busy, but our waitress was great. The band was awesome!"
  • "Last night and tonight was my first 2 nights here since they reopened as Legacy. I had a Fabulous Time. We came here for the bands both nights. They food was really good and the service was AWESOME!! My glass was NEVER empty and everyone was SOOOOOO friendly!!! I will definitely be back sooner than later!!!!"

Negative Reviews:
  • "Ordered 40 piece wings for takeout. They were AWFUL! Some weren't even done all the way!!! Not to mention the staff wasn't friendly... at least the celery & carrots were nice & fresh."
  • "Looked like a good place to watch the game. I liked the Bartender, Server, & the interior. But the beer wasn't cold. Menu was shrunk to 5"x7"& the print was too small to read. So I left."
  • "Wasn't a fan before the makeover, not a fan still."
  • "Filthy kitchen and I mean horribly Filthy, staff are unfriendly, the owners are psycho criminal rednecks, actually the male owner i would say is a Rage-neck i say this because he tried to assault me in the parking lott after i confronted him with the check he wrote that bounced. He has also attacked other employees in a fit of rage. Anyway...Atmosphere is dark and like a bar. Food is surprisingly very good for bar food. This is my honest opinion based on my experience at this place."
  • "The place recently changed to Legacy Bar and Grill by John Taford was a disappointment. Service was slow, took long time to get someone to the table and then had to search to tab out. Beer was actually warm to me but the glasses were clean. Noticed there were multiple taps but most were empty. My girl friend said the bathrooms were filthy which was really unexpected since the place had been renovated 3 days earlier. I doubt ibwill be returning."
  • "My Fiance and I went Friday night. Horrible service. Our waitress knew nothing about the menu nor what was served at the bar. I ordered my meal and order tater tots with cheese.. They were newked SO bad."
  • "Terrible!!! My wife and I ordered take out first they got our order wrong. When I ordered chicken and waffles I got 2 small chicken breasts and half a waffle. My wife had country fried steak that was fair but her side of corn was definitely straight from the can.. $32.00 for that was just ridiculous!!! Never going back. Our opinion they need rescuing again from bar rescue"
  • "Worst experience ever!! They had a Monday night football special on draft beer, at 7:30 they supposedly ran out of draft beer. Our server was not only new, I am pretty sure she has never smiled before in her life. We had 8 orders and she messed up 5 of them. Initially she blamed the kitchen staff than finally admitted it was her. Food was pretty bland, not all that impressed."

  • Legacy Bar responded to a negative review right after the makeover stating, "We have adds out for more servers and cooks. We were also given a guide book of systems, that we are working in implementing. We wish things could change over night, like they appear on the show, but there has definitely been an adjustment period. We hope that you will come back to see us, once we have these systems in place."

Bar Rescue - Robusto By Havana Mix (Havana Mix Cigar Emporium) Update

On this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Memphis, Tennessee to rescue Havana Mix Cigar Emporium.  Havana Mix is a cigar bar owned by Robb Hunter who is starting to think that hiring his millennial son wasn't such a good idea.  He is too focused on talking to customers about cigars and is forgetting about the other customers that want to buy drinks.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer somewhat changed the name of Havana Mix Cigar Emporium to Robusto By Havana Mix and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Robusto By Havana Mix since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Humidor, Bar and lounge without the fees. Simple nice and up to date with all the new cigar releases."
  • "Great place to go and the atmosphere is so relaxing. "
  • "Black excellence at it's best if you smoke cigars in memphis go out of your way to support robusto by Havana mix. Atmosphere is wonderful live music friendly knowledgeable service rite in the heart of downtown memphis. What more could you ask for??"
  • "This is a terrific place. They have an incredible selection as well as friendly, knowdgable, and helpful staff. Great experience."
  • "Great atmosphere and fine selection of cigars and a nice bar. People are welcoming and friendly. Staff is attentive and customer focused!"
  • "I stopped in here while on vacation. What a great cigar lounge. Great environment, everyone was friendly, and a great selection of cigars. Thank you for your hospitality."
  • "Had a great time! Knowledgeable employees. Cigars, whiskey and live jazz band. What more can u ask for?"
  • "While passing through on our honeymoon we decided to drop in. We were instantly impressed and treated as if we were long time customers. Great atmosphere and awesome staff!"
  • "The atmosphere is awesome. The staff is friendly and the facility is clean.Great cigars"
  • "Great new look and great place to sit and smoke the just purchased cigar."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Went in with the hubs. Definitely not somewhere we would hang. Definitely way too crowded. The humidor was waaaaaay too warm and there were about 4 guys in there BS'ing and smoking, being in the way. And probably not somewhere anyone should be smoking cuz it sure as heck seemed that there was no ventilation in there. Way too Smokey in the actual lounge too."
*Reviews from Yelp, Facebook, Google+

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in October 2017.
  • Here is a preview video of the episode from the Paramount website.
  • Here is the Havana Mix website which still has the old logo.
  • Here is the Robusto By Havana Facebook page and Instagram.
  • Robusto By Havana Mix is having a viewing party for the episode and are boasting that they are the first cigar bar ever to be made over by Bar Rescue. (Link)
  • From the 'About Us' section of the website, "Havana Mix is the first establishment of its kind in the area to combine an upscale cigar lounge, wine bar, Cuban cuisine, and a large custom-built cedar walk-in humidor"
  • Robb Hunter was the official cigar provider for Superbowl 39 in 2005. (Link)
  • Robb Hunter played in the NFL as a kickoff return specialist for the Los Angeles Raiders.
  • That article also said, "Hunter is a partner with the Memphis restaurant management company, Serve Holdings, which owns and manages 20 different Captain D's restaurants locally, but he is turning his personal passion for fine cigars into a business venture as well."  It appears those restaurants were sold to another LLC in 2009.
  • Robb also owns two other cigar bars, Burning Desire Cigar Emporium (opened in 2014) in Lakeland, Tennessee and Cigar Haven (opened in 2015) in Southaven, Mississippi.
  • Havana Mix had great reviews before the Bar Rescue makeover with at 4.5 out of 5 star avg. on YelpTripadvisor, and Google reviews.

Conclusion:

Robusto By Havana Mix has kept the name of the bar given to them by Bar Rescue, but most of the time they just go by Havana Mix.  The reviews of Robusto By Havana Mix are overwhelmingly positive with compliments on the atmosphere, friendly service, and cigars.  The reviews for Havana Mix before the makeover were also overwhelmingly positive.  Robb is also an owner of two other cigar bars, so who knows if they were actually struggling.  Perhaps Bar Rescue thought the idea of doing a rescue at a cigar bar was appealing.

Bar Rescue - Theory A Vintage Parlor Bar (Paladino's) Update

$
0
0
On this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Tarzana, California to rescue Paladino's.  Paladino's is a bar that doubles as a music venue and is owned by two scientists who may be smart, but lack common sense.  They are supposedly over $500,000 in debt and they are having trouble attracting customers and good bands.  Paladino's also doesn't have draft beer in the bar or the ingredients to make a simple cocktail such as a Manhattan.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer changed the name of Paladino's to Theory A Vintage Parlor Bar and the bar has somewhat kept the name.  They use both names interchangeably and use Paladino's more often than Theory.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Theory since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "This is an absolutely awesome place to come listen to great bands! Great ambiance, great service, and great bands! Love this place!!"
  • "I was visiting LA for the holidays and went here for the latin night on Thursday. The crowd was small. This is mostly like a local place. They place mix music of bachata, salsa. Mostly bachata because it was a bachata night. The songs that they played was pretty ok."
  • "This is a great spot for some fun entertainment. The quality of bands that play at this location is fun and exciting to the ears full of true enjoyment. You will not regret giving this place a try. They have good beverages to keep your stomach content."
  • "If you are a person who really enjoys live music then you will enjoy Paladino's....After you check in with yelp you get a free beer. I have to say being at numerous music venues on the famous sunset strip. Paladion's you are a winner. A great place to enjoy all kinds of music and dancing."
  • "I've been going here for years, and I've always had a great time...Was blown away by a lychee flavored drink that contained the extract of a tropical flower that changed colors from a beautiful periwinkle purple to a fuchsia pink when I squeezed a wedge of lemon into it. I love this bar, and I'll continue to come, drink amazing drinks, eat their delicious new pizza, and enjoy the top notch entertainment they provide for as long as the doors stay open."

Negative Reviews:
  • "So Jon Taffer ignore's the women's bathroom. But he's on TV every week talking about bars need women customers. Theory's women's bathroom, soap dispencer on the counter, does not work. No purse hook in the stall. Paper towles on the counter, part wet. Paper towel dispenser empty or broken....Oh and the lights in front of the stage, the one with no gel over it, the bright white one, was angled down, so no no wanted to stand on the side because the light was blinding. You needed a sun visor to have a conversation. Yuck. We all moved to a spot where were didn't have a flood like blinding us in the eye."
  • "I really wanted to like this venue. But as a Dominican New Yorker who loves her Bachata and Salsa, I am not fycking with this DJ. Do not play Top 40 Hits or Old School Hits on top of Bachata and Salsa beats. You are cheating those who are learning and are literally pushing out a genuine community that is looking for Salsa and Bachata from the East Coast. You are literally losing thousands of dollars bc of it and so are many other venues"
  • "$10 cover charge to spend money at the bar? When I'm not seeing the band play? Seriously? Lady asking for the cover charge was the rudest woman I've ever encountered at a business. Been here many times. Won't be back."
  • "Not Paladinos as of 4/2017. $10 cover at 7pm. ??REALLY?? Just wanted a few drinks before going to meet up with some friends. The bands don't even start until later. Bad way to start a new bar. 2 Thumbs Down. Ps I've been going there since it was the Crest. Almost 30 years."
*Reviews from Facebook, Yelp

Other News and Links:
  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in March/April 2017, so about a year before the episode aired.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Paramount YouTube page - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is the Paladino's website which doesn't mention the name Theory at all.
  • Here is Paladino's Facebook Page where they use both Theory Parlor Bar and Paladino's in advertisements.  The main name on the page is Paladino's and they seem to use that more, especially as of late.
  • Here is the bar's liquor license which is still active and the owner name is "Purple Cat and Cabbage, LLC."  Jonathan and John are listed as the managing members.
  • Paladino's has Latin Nights on Thursday nights.  Jonathan responded to a review about Latin Night and said that it was run and promoted by someone else.
  • Jonathan also responded to a review in September 2017 stating, "Ironically, today was the first day we had our draft beer system working again in a long time."  So it appears they had problems with draft beer after well after Bar Rescue did their makeover.

Conclusion:

Paladino's seems to use their old name more than the name Theory A Vintage Parlor Bar given to them by Bar Rescue.  Their website only has the Paladino's name and their Facebook page uses both names, but it definitely uses Paladino's more and all recent posts refer to only Paladino's.  The Bar Rescue makeover happened about a year before the episode aired, so they had plenty of time to get everything updated.  Paladino's also is not advertising their Bar Rescue episode at all on social media and do not have a watch party planned.

The reviews since the makeover are mixed with people liking the live music and new drinks and having complaints about Latin night and the cover charge.  Paladino's had issues with their draft beer being available according to what they said in September 2017 - "today was the first day we had our draft beer system working again in a long time."  So it appears they haven't followed through with a lot of what Bar Rescue suggested and provided.

Bar Rescue - Kings Duck Inn Update

$

On this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Merritt Island, Florida to Kings Duck Inn. Kings Duck Inn is a Cape Canaveral area bar frequented by local NASA astronauts.  The bar is owned and operated by Serena Biscontini and Amanda Biscontini who are mother and daughter.  The conflict between them is causing issues at the bar and the bar's POS system is old and inefficient.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the bar's name of Kings Duck Inn.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Kings Duck Inn since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "My husband and I stopped last night for a quick bite and to check out the changes after Bar Rescue had been. I hadn't been in quite some time but was pleased with the change in decor immediately. It now sports a very fitting space theme and the comfort and appearance of the chairs and tables was appreciated. I do hope they are waiting for some air conditioning parts though. There are spots on the ceiling with cardboard taped over and a very large fan was quite noisy. I would hate to think those issues are permanent. The food, though! The food was so delicious! ...It's so exciting to have a tasty and reasonably priced bar in the neighborhood. KDI is finally what I had hoped it would be the first time I went. A clean and reasonably priced neighborhood joint with friendly service."
  • "Place is great! Good food and good drinks at good prices. Friendly staff and a nice outdoors area away fron the traffic of N. Courtenay. Worth the few minutes drive over the barge."
  • "Food is always consistent and reasonably priced, very comfortable atmosphere and simply a cozy place to enjoy your favorite drinks at!"
  • "Not sure how Bar Rescue (not a tv fan) did this, but the first thing we noticed was the attentiveness of all staff. The bar and table seating areas were almost to capacity, drinks arrived quickly, and the food menu has been revamped with quirky space food item names to go with the NASA theme throughout.... KDI is your average neighborhood pub which now boasts new faces with above par service!

Negative Reviews:
  • "We have not been here in months. Wow what a disappointment. The food for lunch was not what it was. Dried out fish; mahi? The server was too busy chatting at bar and the owner was drinking and being obnoxious. The once great spot for lunch is no more for us when we are in town. Only good thing was the remodeling. There are much better option nearby"
  • "We have gone there many times. Last night was awful. Our waitress was the worst. She never told us they had 1 slice of pizza left when 2 people ordered. She just didn't bring it, when asked she then told him good thing he ordered wings Too. It was lady's night and she charged for the wine. When we need something we searched for her and she was stand In front of the air conditioner cooling her self. Great sight to see"
  • "Food is still good but not as good as it used to be. It is also very expensive. The menu prices have went up alot."
  • "Old KDI's was better, the updated place was nice, if given a choice, I like the old look. Food was ok, not sure if they lost the cook during remodel and service was friendly"
  • "I don’t know why I keep trying this place over and over. Disappointment after disappointment. This is the last one thought. We just tried to order of the new menu put in when Bar Resue was here and was told, oh we don’t use that menu any more. Some Rescue!"
  • "The local establishment had a "make-over" but the overall quality has not changed. Good place to stop by to visit the locals. Average food. Average prices."
  • "Stopped in on a Saturday well after Bar Rescue changes which looked pretty lame/cheap for the most part. Sat at bar and service was spotty as bartender was overwhelmed with just a few customers....This place was a pig before and putting lipstick on it changes nothing. Go elsewhere and save yourself disappointment. Gave it a 2 as beer was cold and (late) fries were fine."
  • "We ate there for the first time and the food was pretty good but very expensive for the type of place it is. It needs quite a bit of updating on the inside and is a total local hole-in-the-wall... which is awesome! But don't charge a fortune for your food. The customers and staff were super-friendly so that pulled the score up to a 3 for me."
  • "We have been here before the revamp and we're not impressed before or afterwards. It's a big wrap around bar. They have redecorated the place and put comfortable seating in it. But the bar prices are off the chart for liquor. I had a Jameson and club soda. Most places I pay $5 ....higher end restaurants $7....(I guess for the atmosphere). This place charged $8! It took over an hour to get our food.... We won't go back. Food was poor, service was extremely slow, and prices were high. This is not a high end restaurant."
  • "5 days after Bar Rescue left and it is no better. One waitress who could not keep up and there was only four tables. We waited over ten minutes to get our order taken and table next to us complained because it took over 20 mins for their order to be taken. Ordered a new specialty drink and it never arrived....Bar Rescue did not do enough to fix this place. Was much better 7 years ago."

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Kings Duck Inn and the reviews for the bar since the Bar Rescue makeover are a bit negative.  People seem to have complaints about the air conditioning, the food/drink prices and the service at the bar.  There are a few compliments on the compliments on the food and the atmosphere.  According to one of the reviews left about Kings Duck Inn, they no longer offer the menu installed by Bar Rescue.  Kings Duck Inn also does not have an active Facebook page or a website that works, so they aren't putting in much effort to succeed after a Bar Rescue visit.

Laguna Lounge (Tres Cuartos) From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Tres Cuartos in Jersey City, NJ from season 4 of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar appeared on Bar Rescue in October 2014 and was originally named Laguna Lounge.  Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue changed the name to Tres Cuartos, but the bar quickly changed their name back to Laguna Lounge.  Laguna Lounge eventually changed the name of the bar to Laguna Shots Bar, which was the name of the bar when it closed.

The bar closed around August 2017 with owner Ivan saying that the bar was closed and he had a new business called Viva La Musica Entertainment Company.  So it looks like Ivan is going to focus more on DJing as DJ El Comandante (Jon Taffer referred to him on the show as El Moron-te).

Tres Cuartos/Laguna Lounge/Laguna Shots Bar is now marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page and here is the original update for this episode.

Bar Rescue - The Iron Horse (Joe's Thirsty Lizard) Update

On this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Horn Lake, Mississippi to rescue Joe's Thirsty Lizard.  Joe's Thirsty Lizard is a dive bar owned by a Navy veteran Joe Scott who has put his unqualified friend in charge of managing the bar.  The cook at the bar doesn't care about anything and is caught taking showers at the bar.  Joe's Thirsty Lizard is dirty and in need of repairs and Joe is losing about $4,000 to $6,000 a month.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer changed the name of Joe's Thirsty Lizard to The Iron Horse and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Iron Horse since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "They call this place for whatever reason the Iron Horse now. It seems a friendly little place where everybody knows your name. Even the customers were friendly and outgoing. No reason to be shy in here. This is a bar. They have two bars in fact. This is a place for smokers so don't bitch about it if you go."
  • "They don't have many choices to offer on the menu, but they do have the normal bar food. I ordered the burger. It was really, really good and I'm kicking myself in the ass for not remembering to ask for medium. Had the waitress asked, it would have been ordered correctly. What I got was a properly cooked well done burger. Nothing to complain about, but for my standards it was overcooked, dry and un-juicy. I did however recognize the potential of this burger if it were cooked properly. It was damned good. A really nice bun. I think it was a potato bun. I got a leaf of lettuce that says "We respect our customers." Even the tomato was pretty darn good and that says a lot these days. Onion rings hit the spot and the price was right on. This was a good lunch."
  • "Awesome burgers ! Great fun."
  • "Now known as the Iron Horse thanks to a Bar Rescue! Loved the makeover - we only got some of their wings but they were outstanding! Friendly bar staff, too. Smoker friendly!"
  • "It's now called the iron horse but same great food, staff and drinks!!"
  • "Always a good time. Fun trivia. And great bike nights. Be sure Kari is your bartender"
  • "Great place to hang. Everybody is awesome! Very friendly, and make you feel at home. Good weekend entertainment too."

Negative Reviews:
  • "New name is now Iron Horse. No idea why, but I guess they were on "Bar Rescue ". Smoke, smoke, smoke!! Need some major air ventilation! Other than that, the place is ok. Very small, to have a band. Food looked good. Nice staff. "
  • "Loved it before the revamp. Tone down the lights at night and I could give 5 stars. Food is still fabulous."
  • "Will never go back again! A no class crowd and very smoky!"

Other News and Links:
  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in November 2017.
  • Here are 2 preview videos of the episode from the Paramount website - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is The Iron Horse Facebook page, which also has "The Thirsty Lizard" in quotes.
  • Here is a Joe's Thirty Lizard website.
  • The Iron Horse has Iron Horse tank tops for sale at the bar, so they have embraced the new name and are selling merchandise with the new name. (Link)
  • The bar is having a viewing party for the episode tonight. (Link)
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Joe (Owner), Michael (manager), Amanda Starr (bartender), Kari (bartender), Jennifer (bartender)
  • Amanda shared the video of the preview and someone asked if they really had people showering in the kitchen, and she responded, "not since he left."  So, the cook Dirty Red is no longer there.
  • Joe's Thirsty Bar/Iron Horse has 100 reviews on Google with a 4.5 out of 5 average.  They also have over 200 reviews on Facebook with a 4.7 out of 5-star average.

Conclusion:

The Iron Horse has kept the name given to them by Bar Rescue and they have even begun selling "The Iron Horse" merchandise at the bar.  The reviews for the bar since the makeover are mostly positive with people liking the food, atmosphere and staff.  The reviews before Bar Rescue visited were also mostly positive.  The few negative reviews recently seem to complain about smoke at the bar, so non-smokers do not like it.  Dirty Red the cook is no longer at the bar, so no more showers are taking place in the kitchen.

Weber's Place in Reseda, California appeared on Bar Rescue in September of 2012.  During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer and team slightly renamed the bar to Weber's Rum Bar & Grill.  The owners decided to rename the bar to Weber's Sports Bar and Grill after Jon Taffer left.  Weber's also brought back live music after Bar Rescue left..

The reviews for Weber's Sports Bar and Grill were pretty negative after Bar Rescue left and some of the reviews are below:
  • "Sigh.....this place has tremendous potential. It has everything it needs to be successful: a stage and sound system for local talent, a large bar, plenty of crowd space, plenty of parking space, and name recognition. Unfortunately, gross mismanagement and downright apathy on behalf of the owners are its demise."
  • "Anything upgraded from their episode in Bar Rescue has vanished. It's a dirty little punk dive and not the good kind. The bartenders didn't even know how to make a hurricane."
  • "Weber's inability to serve most of their menu and the gross discourtesy shown to the headlining band (and others bands) is the cause for the poor rating."
  • "MR. OWNER! Read these reviews about your poor customer service and hire some servers who know what they are doing! If you don't, you'll lose a really great opportunity to make money. These poor customer service reviews are killing you!"
  • "I wanted to check out this place after I saw it on Bar Rescue and I can see why it was on there!!!!! We walked in and it had a great look but HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! "
*Reviews from Yelp

Weber's Sports Bar and Grill closed in the middle of 2013, so not too long after they appeared on Bar Rescue. Their Facebook Page is still up, but they obviously have not posted since they closed.  The Bar Rescue Updates Page has Weber's listed as 'Closed'.

Kilkenny's Irish Pub in Redondo Beach, California appeared on season 1 of Bar Rescue in July of 2011. During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer and team renamed the bar to Breakwall Bar & Grill and the bar kept the name.

Breakwall Bar & Grill didn't last too much longer after the Bar Rescue episode aired as they surrendered their liquor license in January 2012 and closed.

Owner Allie Speed told the local paper, "Breakwall, like many businesses, closed its doors in early January because it was impossible to keep it open. Sadly, we had no choice. We truly thank our patrons, employees and the Redondo Beach community for their support over the past six years."

In that article there are also tons of comments from locals who blame Carlos for the closure and have some not so nice things to say about him.

Breakwall Bar & Grill is marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page.

Bar Rescue - Club Platinum Gentlemen's Club Update

On this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Las Vegas, Nevada to rescue Club Platinum.  Club Platinum is a Gentlemen's with topless dancers that are more worried about staring at their phones than paying attention to the customers.  The owner Rita also argues with and chastises her employees in front of customers.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Club Platinum. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Club Platinum since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Nice small place, no cover charge and beautiful dancers. Drinks are nice and cheap too."
  • "I work here so im a little bias but it really is one of the best clubs ive ever been in. Its the cheapest in vegas, no cover, video poker at the bar, its really laid back. The staff is really friendly and the music is usually really good."
  • "Stopped in to check it out... really great little club. Beautifull girls and super friendly staff. No cover. Reasonable drinks. Dancers were friendly and not pushy. And they had hot ones on a Tuesday. Nice"
  • "Great small strip club. Super cheap drinks. No cover! Kat was the hottest bright red hair dancer and is very personable, and tattoos, who doesn't like this. A few of the blonde dancers were super rude but we got over that due to the other sexy girls. I would recommend going even if it's just to get a drink and a quick dance. Also, if you happen to have the displeasure of meeting a dancer named Barbie, politely decline and look away, she is a vulture and will ruin your night, we left immediately after her badgering us."
  • "I love this place , first there's no cover charge...atmosphere here is so relax , beer is $6 and cocktails $7 or $8 ... they have beautiful ladies here that are not pushy at all , they are really friendly , they love to hang on with you and give u a good time ... lap dances are $20 , not a bad price , but private is $250 1/2 hour and 1 hour $500 , which is high but there's people that will pay it"
  • "I went back in and the same cool ass bartender is still workn there...The bar looks amazing newly renovated and alotta new good looking girls !...Dancers are a lot hotter than before but a couple of them had major attitude if you don't buy a dance right away ..... Blonde big chest nice butt but fake as hell ! So yes now I'm a fan of platinum and I'll be going back soon ! Btw love the new lights and glassware it really classed up the club looks good !"
  • "Me and the wife had a blast. Hand to hurry up and leave before I fell in love with that thick Spanish stripper"

Negative Reviews:
  • "I'm a single, bisexual, newly divorced business woman who was in town for a good time. I had no idea strip clubs can discriminate based on gender in consideration of who is and isn't allowed entry to an adult entertainment facility and was asked by the bouncer "if I was accompanied by a gentleman." If this is the case, say so on your website. I've been allowed to "gentleman's clubs" in other states without "a male escort."

Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in January of 2017, so more than a year ago.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from Paramount YouTube - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is the Club Platinum Facebook Page which doesn't have any posts.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Rita (owner), David (bartender/manager)
  • Here is the Club Platinum website.  The "our story" section says,"Opened as the Tender Trap, one of Las Vegas's original three Gentlemans Clubs, we became the best little strip club: Club Platinum on May 31st 2002. Known for our laid-back, no pressure atmosphere; we have been a fun and titillating entertainment venue for nearly fifteen years.  Unlike other clubs, we have no cover charge, extremely low drink prices, and great service from our friendly staff.  We pride ourselves on providing the full Vegas adult experience with a variety of showgirls to offer the finest in adult entertainment, three televisions showing the best in sporting events, and video poker for gambling.  We also offer nightly drink specials on the weekends as well as specials for birthday, bachelor, divorce, or any other type of party!"

Conclusion:

The Bar Rescue makeover was over a year ago, but there weren't too many reviews of Club Platinum Gentleman's Club.  The reviews they did receive are mostly positive with people liking that it is a topless bar with no cover charge and cheap drinks.  Club Platinum is not active on social media and has an outdated website over a year after the Bar Rescue makeover.  With the publicity that Bar Rescue brings they may want to work on that.

On this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Atlantic Beach, Florida to rescue Cap N Odies Lounge.  Cap N Odies is run by the daughter of the original owner.  She is trying to find a way to keep his bar afloat to save his legacy.  The bartenders have trouble making basic drinks and  the ice machine is filthy which results in dirty drinks for the customers.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer slightly changed the name of Cap N Odies Lounge to just Cap N Odies. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Cap N Odies since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:

  • "I went to the Bar Rescue reviel. They did a good job cleaning the place up and giving it a cool military theme. The success of this place is now up to the owners and staff."
  • "Cool bar since Bar Rescue updated it. The shot chair is cool! Bartender was friendly."
  • "Great chill bar. Local Crowd, Smokers Inside, good bartenders and drink prices are good."
  • "Nice little bar but mostly the same group of people there all the time. Its not a hang out for a bunch of people just the same old crowd."
  • "Bar Rescue just made it great!!"
  • "It's a bar. Not really a hip place, but it's a bar."
*Reviews from Google, Facebook

Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in late January/early February 2018.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Paramount website - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is the Cap N Odies Facebook Page and they are having a watch party for the episode.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Robyn (bartender), Joel (bartender), Liz (bartender)
  • Here are pictures of the makeover from someone on Facebook.  A lot of the people commenting on that post seem to like the makeover.  Someone said they still do not serve food at the bar.
  • There are only 3 Yelp! reviews for Cap N Odies before the makeover which are negative and complain about staff. (Link)
  • A description of the bar on Groupon says that Cap N Odies is a cash only bar.  Hopefully Bar Rescue fixes that. (Link)

Conclusion:

There haven't been too many reviews of Cap N Odies since the Bar Rescue makeover as it only happened a few months ago.  It seems like people like the makeover and how Bar Rescue cleaned up the place.  Also it seems like the bar is known for having a group of regulars there, so hopefully they welcome the new customers into the bar.

Bar Rescue - The Copper Rocket Pub Update

On this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Maitland, Florida to rescue The Copper Rocket Pub. The Copper Rocket Pub is owned by Selman Markovic who doesn't take the blame for his bar's failure and instead blames his employees.  Also, there is food on the menu that is no longer available and the food that they do serve leaves a lot to be desired.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of The Copper Rocket Pub. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Copper Rocket Pub since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:

The Copper Rocket Pub was actually sold in August of 2017, just a few months after the makeover.  If you want to read the few reviews of the bar from when Bar Rescue came, to when it was sold, they are here.

Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in May 2017, so about a year ago.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Paramount website - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is The Copper Rocket Pub Facebook Page and website.
  • Here is the Facebook Page of Selman Markovic.
  • Selman was talking about his Bar Rescue episode on Facebook in August of 2017 saying, "We might not air. I was a bit of what they call a "problem" (Link)
  • In August of 2016 Selman Markovic had an online meltdown over a "Best of Orlando" award that he thought The Copper Rocket deserved and felt the voting was rigged.  This gave him quite a reputation among the local community. (Link)
  • As stated above, Copper Rocket was sold in August of 2017. (Link)  It opened back up in February 2018.
  • The news owners did another makeover for the bar and here is a five minute video of makeover and interior.  They pretty much gutted the place and did everything from scratch.
  • The reviews for the new owners are pretty positive with a 4.5 star out of 5 average on Yelp. (Link)
  • Nobody from the show works at The Copper Rocket or even goes there anymore according to a comment on Facebook.

Conclusion:

The Copper Rocket Pub was sold to new owners shortly after Bar Rescue did their makeover.  Who knows if Bar Rescue was used by Selman with the intention of flipping the bar.  The new owners of The Copper Rocket gutted the bar and did a new makeover, so pretty much nothing done by Bar Rescue remains including any of the employees.  It seems that Selman is pretty vocal online, so we will see what he has to say after the episode airs. The Copper Rocket Pub is marked as 'Sold' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page.

Blue Frog's Local 22 in Chicago, Illinois which appeared on the first season of Bar Rescue has closed.  Last night was their last night in business as the owners plan to retire.  The bar posted the following message on Facebook, "After 8 wonderful and crazy years, we’re retiring. Join us for a week of specials and an opportunity to purchase the amazing memorabilia of the bar! Our last day is Friday, May 11!"

Blue Frog's Local 22 also posted a photo that said, "Come see us before we close. After 30 years of slinging burgers & beers, Mimi is retiring!"

The Yelp reviews of Blue Frog's Local 22 were pretty positive averaging a 4 out of five stars, but it seems like the most recent ones were more negative.

In May of 2015, Blue Frog's Local 22 complained about scaffolding in front of their bar that prevented them from opening their patio and caused them to lose money.  They said they were in danger of closing and filed a lawsuit, which you can read here.  The scaffolding came down around July of 2015 and they remained open until now.

Blue Frog's Local 22 has been marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page.
