Bar Rescue - The Beechwood (City Bistro) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in St. Louis, Missouri to try to rescue City Bistro. City Bistro is owned by Tiffany Hutchinson and her bartenders are out of control and flashing patrons.  She is supposedly $300,000 in debt and the bar is supposedly two months away from closing.  Jon Taffer also decides that Tiffany needs to fire a bartender for him to stay and finish the makeover of City Bistro.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer changed the name of City Bistro to The Beechwood and they have kept the name of the bar.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Beechwood since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:
  • "Smoking bar... UGH Service was slow and the food was mediocre at best. There are SO many good bars & restaurants in the area, this is not one of them."
  • "Wanted to check it out since Bar Rescue was recently here. Alas, at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon the place was closed. And of course, you can't tell from the outside whether they're open or not so you have to park and get out to try the door. Ugh."
  • "Stopped in tonight for a few beers. Bartender, Brittany, was super friendly. She was always right there with a refill as soon as I needed it. Can't wait to come back and try the food! I recommend everyone try this place out! Don't let bad reviews intimidate you!!!"

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in November 2015.  Other St. Louis episodes filmed at the same time already aired last season.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2.
  • Here is The Beechwood Facebook page, which hasn't posted anything since December 2015. Bartenders have been checking in at the bar on Facebook recently, so it is still open,
  • The bar does not have a working phone number that I could find.  The numbers listed online for the bar were either disconnected or no one answered.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Tiffany (owner), Jennifer/JJ (bartender), Candle (bartender)
  • A former employee of the bar filed a lawsuit against them claiming he was fired for contacting the city about the bar refilling premium bottles of liquor with cheap liquor.  People commenting on the article about that seem to think the lawsuit is bogus. (Link)
  • A December 2015 review of the bar after the makeover said it still needed a rescue and the beer tanks in the front window are not used. It also said the owner said she wouldn't do a show like Bar Rescue again.
  • Owner Tiffany Hutchinson is also the owner of a used car lot that has had trouble with a scam that took customers money. According to the linked news story, the car lot also has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau (Link)

Conclusion:

The bar has kept the name The Beechwood after Bar Rescue visited, but they do not have much of a presence online and they do not have a working phone number listed.  There have only been a few reviews in the eight months since the makeover(and the few are negative), which doesn't seem to be a good sign.  Owner Tiffany seems to be involved in some business disputes with The Beechwood as well as her used car lot which doesn't look too good for business. It doesn't appear that Tami was rehired, but without an online presence it is hard to confirm.

Owner From Bar Rescue's The Arena Sentenced To Prison For Failure To Pay Taxes

Photo - Michigan Attorney General
Brian Michael Flore (aka Mike), who is the owner of The Arena in Ann Arbor, Michigan was recently sentenced to two to five years in prison for 120 counts of failure to file taxes due to not paying sales tax for about 10 years (one count for each month).  He supposedly collected $700,000 in sales tax during those years and did not give any to the state of Michigan.  He worked out a payment plan with the state, but after missing a few payments, Mike was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay more than $1.5 million in restitution after penalties for fraud and interest were added.

It is unclear if the bar will remain open, but it seems like the bar is looking for investors or looking to sell the business.

The Arena appeared on season four (4th set) of Bar Rescue and the update on this site had Mike saying he did the show pretty much for a free makeover.  Maybe he should have been more focused on paying his taxes.

If The Arena closes because of this, I will update the Bar Rescue Update Page, but for now I will keep it as "Open"

Bar Rescue - Brick and Barley (Baseline Sports Bar) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Tempe, Arizona to try to rescue Baseline Sports Bar. Baseline Sports Bar is owned by AJ Hunter who took out a lien on her house to purchase the bar.  Baseline Sports Bar was supposedly doing between $65,000 and $80,000 a month when AJ purchased the bar.  Then AJ made the staff all female and called them the "Baseline Babes," which included her two daughters.  The bar went downhill and AJ is supposedly losing $4,000 a month and is $190,000 in debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer changed the name of Baseline Sports Bar to Brick and Barley and the bar has kept the name.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Brick and Barley since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Maria takes great care of us every time. I typically get the Caesar salad which gives me the fuel to go all Kirk Gibson around the bases. Stop by next time you're in the neighborhood, you won't regret it."
  • "The recent upgrades have really turned it into something special. The old and new staff are some if the best that there is. The clientele is diverse and loyal. This place is a true gem. Great menu and service. An extremely good value for your money."
  • "Amazing! What a great atmosphere, friendly staff, incredibly delicious food (try the Whitney wings!), well priced drinks and really just expect an all around great time! Highly recommended and yes, I will be coming back many times! Love it!"
  • "The place is clean the food is good and the wait staff and bartenders are very nice. No complaints. Lots of TVs if you're looking for that. Angie is very personable with everyone. I had the Philly cheesesteak and it was yummy. I'd come back here with friends."
  • "Baseline Sports Bar went through a recent renovation since being featured on the show "Bar Rescue" and has since renamed itself "Brick & Barley".This is a nice bar and grill with a decent menu and fairly priced drinks....I will be back for a drink and a bite soon. Check them out."

Negative Reviews:
  • "I would give zero stars if I could! Disgusting flat Stella on draft and service was horrible. Waitresses would rather talk to each other in the back room than actually serve us. Someone should call bar rescue. Oh wait... they already did and it still needs rescuing. If Jon Taffer came in he would be livid! What a waste of space. This bar will not last!!!"
  • "Food was okay, drink selection was okay, but neither are going to draw me back anytime soon."
  • "Curiosity was killing us so we had to see what John Taffer did to BSB.Not much. It's brighter inside, not so dark and gloomy, but really the same exact place. A few new tables, same bar layout. Didn't try any food, but the beer out of the tap was warm"
  • "It's called brick and barley now...2 stars for the service from the bartender. She just had a bad attitude and zero sense of urgency which comes off as lazy and uninterested in her job or customers."
  • "I have been coming here off and on for many years. Came back to check it out after the bar rescue. Looks like they never changed the menu at all, and the bathrooms are still gross. It's clearly a bar for regulars and they get served before anyone else. The room itself looks good (though anything was an improvement) but it's nothing special. "
*Reviews from Yelp

Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in January 2016
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2.
  • Here is the Brick and Barley Facebook Page and the old Baseline Sports Bar Facebook Page
    • Looking at the old Baseline Sports Bar Facebook, it doesn't seem like spaghetti wrestling was a regular event.
  • Here is a Baseline Sports Bar website and it doesn't appear there is a new Brick and Barley one yet.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of AJ (Owner), Xatia (Bartender/AJ's Daughter), Diva (Bartender/AJ's Daughter), Whitney (General Manager).  Here are other Brick and Barley employees tagged in a post as well.
    • Judging by AJ's Facebook Page, she still calls the bartenders "babes" but they are now "Brick and Barley Babes".
  • Here are Yelp reviews from before the makeover, and the reviews were not too bad before Bar Rescue came.

Conclusion:

The bar has kept the name Brick and Barley after the Bar Rescue name change.  The reviews of the bar since the makeover are mixed with people liking the updates and atmosphere but having complaints about the service.  The bar still has the same theme with the "babes" being advertised on Facebook and such, so it seems like they are still operating as they were but with just a different name.

Bar Rescue - Blacklight District Lounge Update

$

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Long Beach, California to try to rescue Blacklight District Lounge. Blacklight District Lounge is owned by Dave Franich with a little help from his friend Gabe Lopez.  They purchased the bar for $110,000 and turned it into a punk rock bar after doing some renovations. The bar has never made money and is supposedly losing $3,000 a month leaving Dave $160,000 in debt.  Dave is also stubborn about making any changes to the punk rock theme of the bar which causes conflict with Jon Taffer.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, there was no name change for Black Light District. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Black Light District since Bar Rescue came to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue visit):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Best punk bar in Long Beach... I prefer old man dive bars or cocktail lounges. But this is definitely smaller than Alex's Bar, and better...Parking here sucks but it's LB - only parked a block away on a Tues night. Fat Tire was 5.50 and they have metal shows!!!!!!!! For 5 bucks!"
  • "So, what do you think a dive bar means? It is what it is. Was there for the first time last night. Had a good time supporting Apple Suicide Nets. Will return again. Thanks."
Negative Reviews:
  • "If you like getting your car broken into, drinking watered down beer, smells like a toilet, then this is your place."
  • "Trashy. A fight broke out. Owner did nothing...bunch of cowards. Drinks are weak. Can't say anything nice about this place."
  • "The owner is a racists and this place is horrible. If your looking for somewhere that you can enjoy try all the other places in long beach but here."
  • "Great bar to watch bands at but the "Security" are rude!! "Apache" as he calls himself has no manners, no people skills, hes actually allowed to mosh with the patrons and be very aggressive which I have on video!! These so called knuckle heads for security all need some serious training!! How an owner can have this kind of security is beyond me. They are a liability and just a lawsuit waiting to happen.".."I love Dive Bars and Punk Rock...However, this place is hell. I came in and wanted to walk right out. Crusty old regulars and sketchy looking guys sparsely populated the bar...I wouldn't have felt safe there had I not been with a guy. It felt hostile...The owner is a not a punk, but a "Bro" who likes punk music"
  • "They have lame ass security that dont even card you lmao, a dumb bitch blonde bartender named Val that talks shit about people online but cant seem to say anything in someones face Still tiped that bitch a dollar ! Over all place sucks! No wonder Jon Taffer didnt want to save that shitty ass bar for obvious reasons!"
  • "They don't care if you're getting assaulted and will turn a blind eye. I'd give it negative stars if Facebook had that option. If you want to go to a safe and friendly dive bar in Long Beach, don't go here. Good luck staying in business. You'll need it."
  • "Employees are anti-semitic scumbags. I don't advise anyone even step foot into this petri dish."
  • "Cool spot to watch bands at!! However the entire staff are rude. You get a bad vibe from the so-called Security guard and the rest of the doormen there."
*Reviews from Yelp, Facebook

Other News and Links:
  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in February 2016
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is the Blacklight District Lounge Facebook Page which is kept up-to-date and has tons of promotion posters.  They have definitely kept the punk theme at the bar.
  • Here is a Facebook post that has some Facebook pages of people from the show.
  • A Facebook post about the episode has people who were on the episode commenting.  One said the owner kicked out Bar Rescue and they begged to come back.  Owner David also said "words are put in my mouth I didn't say" and he told Joe from The Vandals to go home because he insulted his friend's band.
  • The bar has had non punk acts in the past, such as a hip hop artist in January 2016, and reggae in December 2015
  • In 2013 David Franich was accused of sexism and homophobia by someone wanting to book a gig at Blacklight District.  There are screenshots of his supposed text messages, which he denies were him and says someone took his phone and sent them.
  • Here is The Vandals Facebook Page and they said they were supposed to play the relaunch, but said to tune in to see if it happens.
  • Public records show David M Franich was listed as the owner of a Redondo Beach, CA house that recently sold for $1.836 million.  If he can afford a house like that, I doubt he was struggling and in debt from a $110,000 bar.
  • The bar's liquor license has David M Franich and Kathleen L Franich(looks like his mother) as owners.  No mentions of Gabe.  Public records also show Kathleen's home value estimated at approximately $1.6 million.
  • The bar seems to use "Black Light District" and "Blacklight District" interchangeably.

Conclusion:

All signs of this episode point to the Blacklight District not being rescued and keeping the name due to the owner David not wanting to change.  If that is the case, Black Light District will probably say they kicked Bar Rescue out and Bar Rescue will probably portray it as Jon Taffer walking out.  With David owning a $1.8 million dollar home, he probably didn't need the makeover anyways.

No matter what the case, it seems that the reviews since Bar Rescue came are pretty bad with people complaining about the attitude of the owner and bartenders and a lack of parking.

Also if this is another walk out episode, I would expect Blacklight District to be flooded with more negative reviews online and negative comments on their social media pages.  This has happened to other Bar Rescue bars in the past and caused them to remove their Facebook pages.

Bar Rescue - Gallopin' Goose Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Coolidge, Arizona to try to rescue the Gallopin' Goose.  The Gallopin' Goose is owned by Scott Wohrman and his ex-wife Stacey who bought the bar in 2009 while they were still married.  Scott made some mistakes which cost them their relationship and caused the bar to go downhill.  The Gallopin' Goose is supposedly $370,000 in debt, losing $2,000 a month and is six months away from closing.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Gallopin' Goose.   Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Gallopin' Goose since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Love, love, love this place. My girlfriend brought me here to listen to some live country music and maybe get a little dancing in.....The food was good and the music was great. Only wish they had a better selection of local craft beers on tap. The place filled up quickly once the band started to play and stayed busy throughout the night....This is also a biker bar and I was pleasantly surprised to see bikers out two stepping it with the cowboys. Everyone got along just fine. This place has become a favorite whenever I visit Casa Grande."
  • "Good, satisfying meal with friendly attentive service! When you go to Casa Grande, go to The Galloping Goose!"
  • "Great atmosphere. Gooseburger is the best burger in town. Also hot wings are awesome. Beer is cold great place to eat and have a drink."
  • "It's ok for a beer or drink on a warm day as there is indoors and out door seating. Food is ok and service is fine. "
  • "The food was fresh and delicious, the drinks were made to order and wine selection was descent, but I always bring my own favorite bottle and ask them to just charge me a cork fee."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Ordered a burger with bacon and the bacon was forgotten. Food was warm and filling but would not go back."
  • "The food is hit and miss. I guess it depends who's cooking. I've known people that have been there and raved about it. On my very first visit, it was a BIG MISS.....Our server was very helpful and took the issue to the cook ( Scott the owner was cooking that day).Whose response was "what do you want me to do about it?" He did not come to the table, apologize, offer to make it right in any way...The Goose is on Bar Rescue in July and there has been a lot of physical upgrades, but all the upgrades in the world will NOT fix bad food and POOR ownership."
  • "We waited over an hour for two club sandwiches and I had to go to the bar for a refill on my Coke. The "club sandwich" was missing tomato and bacon!!!! And had American cheese when it said Swiss?!? Oh boy, this place sucked and it's a shame. The customers are good people....The only thing this place has going is the people who go there."
  • "went in for a beer and food and was met with the rudest bartender, with bright dyed red hair, that was clearly unhappy to be working. 1st of all they haven't had any draft beer for a while (only bottles) and when i asked for a menu i was told the kitchen was closed even though i had called 15 minutes prior and was told otherwise"
  • "What a dive.Wasnt this place on bar rescue??They sure havent learned. The service sucks The owner is rude. The drinks are watered down and way over priced. "

  • The bar brought their pool tables back in February 2016. (Link)
  • In a local article about the episode, Scott said, "I knew going into it that they were going to use a lot of my personal life, as far as the show, and that's exactly what's happened. In fact, it's become more about my personal life then the actual business." He also said the show didn't change the name because of the bar's history and the changes "weren’t too intrusive and only made the place better."
  • The bar did some massive outdoor renovations in March/April 2016 shortly after Bar Rescue visited. Link to some pictures of the renovation.  There also more pictures on Scott's Facebook page.
  • Scott posted this message on Facebook about the episode, "Dear Friends, Family, and Goose Family, I just want to put this out there before our episode of Bar Rescue airs this Sunday...I LOVE ALL YOU GUYS! THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THIS EXPERIENCE! I don't want you to be worrying about what you may of said during the filming of the show and worried I'm going to get mad, I won't. I told all you before the initial interviews to hold nothing back, to juice it up.....so they had enough drama to make a TV show. Well, we gave them enough! I'm sure you all know the show will be edited for maximum drama and ratings. So let's have fun with it, and have a good time Sunday!"
  • Scott also said in a Facebook comment about the Jon Taffer confrontation, "Thanks Beish....I wanted to punch him, but I also wanted free shit and a hour long commercial LoL"
  • In another comment, he says, "I will tell you this, it was ALL about making a TV, I can really elaborate more on that. I'm sure they'll twist shit to make it more dramatic....I signed a contract that allows them to do just that LoL"
Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Gallopin' Goose most likely due to the history of the bar.  The reviews of the Gallopin' Goose are mixed since the Bar Rescue makeover with some complaints about the food and service.

It seems like Scott tried really hard to get on the show with the hopes of "free shit and a hour long commercial." He told employees to hold nothing back and to "juice it up" during the initial Bar Rescue interviews.  He also revealed a lot about his personal life and it seems Bar Rescue picked the Gallopin' Goose more due to Scott's issues than problems in the bar.  Even after Bar Rescue visited the Gallopin' Goose did massive renovations outside, so apparently they had enough money for renovations of their own.

Bar Rescue - Champagne's (Champagne's Cafe) Update

$

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Las Vegas, Nevada to try to rescue the Champagne's Cafe.  Champagne's Cafe was bought in 2015 by Greg Simms with the help of a $150,000 loan from his mother.  The bar was once a famous mob hangout, but now it has issues such as outdated decor, not enough customers, and an owner that is a pushover.  Also, when locals got word that Bar Rescue was coming to the bar, they got a little upset and hoped that nothing was changed.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name slightly from Champagne's Cafe to Champagne's.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Champagne's since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Found this spot by accident and glad I did. Reminds me of a club I used to own with Rolando. Brings friends or don't you will have a great time regardless."
  • "Had a great experience last night. best whiskey sour I've had in a long time. I will definitely come back again thanks to the amazing service provided by my bartender Autumn. If you haven't been here yet you're missing out."
  • "First time visiting this place. Decided to visit after the recent remodel. I really like the place and the atmosphere. Sat at the bar and Autumn was my bartender. She was very friendly and knowledgable. ...I will be coming back for sure and will be recommending this place to all my friends!"
  • "Went to check out the remodel. The bar looks so much better but still feels like the classic champagnes everyone knows and loves. The service was great. Our bartender Autumn was very attentive and welcoming. Would definitely recommend checking it out."
  • "Your standard Vegas dirty dive bar. Decent drinks, decent prices, and a clientele that is fun to watch at 3:30 in the morning. If you want seedy, you got it. It's a fun place, and you never know who or what you're going to see in here."
  • "This place is great! I have been here twice. It is a great dive bar with a fun karaoke night. I love the old school decor and the local feel. It's a nice place to spend time away from The Strip."

Negative Reviews:

  • "Why would they get rid of the original sign out front? It was amazing the new sign is ridiculous . I was born and raised here and hung out at this bar in the day ! Sad they got rid of something that made them unique ."
  • "Post Bar Rescue. I never got here before Taffer did but post-Taffer the wall paper is peeling, the bathrooms are almost as scary as the bad Karaoke but at least the drinks are reasonable priced."

  • Here is the Champagne's Facebook Page and here is their website.  Their weekly schedule includes karaoke and comedy shows
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Greg (owner), Candy (bartender), Autumn (bartender), Raleigh (bartender) and Frank Cullotta (regular). Candy also has a Facebook Page as a tattoo model that has over 10,000 likes and some racy photos.
  • Frank Cullotta has a long criminal past with crimes such as murder.  Hfsde turned into an informant who entered the witness protection program according to his Wikipedia.
  • A local article said Greg Sims told Bar Rescue they couldn't change the wallpaper before signing a contract.  Another article also confirms this, and this article has over 100 comments of people discussing the bar and if it actually needed a makeover.
  • There was a fatal stabbing at the bar in 2013. (Link)
  • In an interview after the makeover, Greg said he was happy they dropped the "Cafe" out of the name and Champagne's hasn't served food since 2006.  A kitchen was on his wish list, "but licensing and infrastructure issues nixed that idea. It would have taken a long time and a lot of money." The carpet also wasn't cleaned as it would have taken too long during Bar Rescue, so that is still on Greg's To-Do list. Greg also noted a lot of people miss the old sign outside.
  • Greg posted this message on his Facebook Page:
"So the trailer is out on youtube for our Bar Rescue episode this Sunday. The butterflies are definitely growing. Believe it or not, nothing in the show is scripted. They definitely pushed for the drama though. My staff definitely amped up their stories. Look for Candy to be the star of the show. She definitely knows how to stir it up. They're all pretty awesome by the way. Candy, Autumn and Raleigh really are bartenders here...no actors. Autumn got to do her very first bar shift on camera....no stress there. The entire staff is awesome and have supported me and the bar since the day I took over, and I'm eternally grateful. Thanks to Frank Cullotta for doing the show. I pushed Bar Rescue to use him, and I know they're happy I suggested it.  BTW, the show has really boosted business already due to all the local press and is doing well. They got me through the slow season in Vegas, which is brutal. Not sure that I would have made it through without them. Thanks Jon!"
  • The bar received their gaming license in April 2016 according to this Facebook post

Conclusion:

Champagne's Cafe was slightly renamed as they dropped the "Cafe" and go by just Champagne's. This makes sense as they do not serve any food at the bar.  The reviews of Champagne's have been mostly positive since Bar Rescue came, but they weren't bad before the makeover.  It seems that owner Greg Simms only agreed to do the show if they didn't change too much and left the wallpaper as-is.  Despite locals not being happy that Bar Rescue was coming to Champagne's, it seems the show didn't make any drastic changes, which made locals happy.  The only thing a lot of people seem disappointed about is the sign change outside.

Greg said he is happy that he did the show and that it has really boosted business, especially during the slow season in Las Vegas.  He also said the show was not scripted and he thanks Jon Taffer for coming to Champagne's.

Bar Rescue - Derby's Bar & Grill (The Wheelhouse Bar) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Hemet, California to try to rescue The Wheelhouse Bar.  The Wheelhouse Bar is a roller rink bar that has out of control bartenders and owner Jesse Vivanco doesn't know how to control them.  The bar is supposedly $165,000 in debt and Jesse has depleted almost all of his retirement money.  The Wheelhouse bar is also supposedly losing $6,500 a month and is six to eight months from closing.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of The Wheelhouse Bar to Derby's Bar & Grill and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Derby's Bar & Grill since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "The female bartender was the best!!! She went out of her way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves."
  • "Great new vibe!!! This place has been revamped into the place to go in Hemet. The new drink menu has several cool new drinks, the Jammer was my favorite!"
  • "The bar looks great, love the changes! Still my favorite bar in town!"
Negative Reviews:
  • "To start when walking in there was an older man in probably his 80s smoking in front of the door whom I thought was a patron but after sitting at the bar for a few minutes he strolled in after finishing his smoke and was the bartender. Got warm beer and warm glasses. No music, no patrons, and after bar rescue came no changes except for paint. Oh and you can't get food until 8pm. Never again and I used to frequent that bar"

Other News and Links:
  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in April 2016.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is the Derby's Bar & Grill Facebook Page and website.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Jesse (owner), Dean (bartender/security), Danielle (bartender), Stephanie (bartender), Ashleigh (bartender), Katelyn (bartender) and Cassi (bartender).
    • Pretty much all of the employees of the bar are advertising the Bar Rescue watch party, so they seem happy with the makeover.
  • Comments on this Facebook post seem to say the show didn't change much to the bar besides the name. This post from someone affiliated with the bar says, "the owner has put so much money into the place since the filming cause they didn't really do much!!! Since then we have spent money on all new lighting all new fans stains all the wood behind bar cause they didn't touch it, we have added all new big screens and as we speak restroom are being finished."
    • Other comments on that post say the bar still has a urine smell and that the town of Hemet is what actually needs a makeover.
  • Reviews for the Wheelhouse Roller Skating Rink on Yelp are not very good with complaints about it being run down (Link).  The reviews are a bit better on Google.
  • Here is the Wheelhouse Roller Skating Facebook page.   The Wheelhouse also does hall rentals that can accomodate up to 500 people (Link).
  • The Wheelhouse Roller Skating rink did renovations in May/June (photos and video from Facebook) and in July put up a new sign

Conclusion:

The bar has kept the name of Derby's Bar & Grill and there haven't been too many reviews of the bar since the makeover.  The positive ones like the bartenders and the makeover while there are complaints about the smell at the bar and warm beer.  It seems like Bar Rescue didn't make too many changes at Derby's Bar & Grill and the owners continued to do renovations after Bar Rescue left.  It seems like owner Jesse Vivanco is trying his best to make the business succeed.

Bar Rescue - The Bradley, Gaming and Cocktail Lounge (City Bar) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Las Vegas, Nevada to try to rescue the City Bar. City Bar was bought in 2015 by Brad Stegman and he took a gamble by buying the bar.  He is supposedly down to his last few months and is in $140,000 in debt from the bar.  Also, the bartenders are holding fetish events at the bar, which Brad supposedly doesn't approve of.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of City Bar to The Bradley, Gaming and Cocktail Lounge and the bar decided to keep the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Bradley since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:
  • "Nicely remodeled from the former city bar. Great live music tonight, listening to Chris Heers, Hunter Sealy, JJ Bailey, and Terry Greene. Great service from the staff! Good prices on drinks. The Sahara Sunrise was delicious. The only thing missing is food service. Great locals place!"
  • "I love the new renovation and the new name - The Bradley. Check out Jazz night on Mondays for some really excellent local Jazz musicians."

  • Here is The Bradley, Gaming and Cocktail Lounge Facebook Page.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Brad (owner), Kim (bartender), Balinda (bartender), Megan (bartender), Elizabeth (bartender) Aaron (fetish guy).
  • On July 2nd, The Bradley posted the following message announcing their closure: "To All : On June 30th, The Bradley was sold to the Sahara Lounge. To everyone that ever visited City Bar or The Bradley: Thank you for your patronage and letting us host you. To all the entertainers that ever perfomed at the bar/lounge: Your great talents were inspirational and it was a pleasure to have you perform. To everyone that ever worked at City Bar or The Bradley: Thank you for all of your efforts. I hope to see everyone out again soon, only this time as one of the customers. May peace and good times always be with you all!"
  • Aaron is calling out the bar(his Facebook post was deleted) saying they knew about what was going on with the fetish nights.  They were called Tantalizing Tuesday's and they even had their own Facebook page with a URL of KinkyTuesdaysatcitybar.  They were having weekly events at the back dating back to December 2015 and here are some pictures.  Right after the makeover, Tantalizing Tuesday's posted, "Just so there is absolutely no confusion we are no longer supporting city bar or the Bradley. All of my equipment was destroyed by the owner."
  • Bartender Kim said the cross Bar Rescue destroyed cost $1500 according to this Facebook post right after the makeover - "so is the $1500 of our personal property they distroyed and my job all for the sake of bar rescue. But I'll get to join you Tuesday's and I'll get a new venue"
  • After The Bradley closed, bartender Megan said, "Fuck im seriously missing The Bradley. 😞 ugh i hate this!" Right around the time of filming Megan said she was 3 years clean from crystal meth, so hopefully that is still going.
  • Owner Brad posted on his Facebook page, "The Bar Rescue show that was filmed at my bar wll be aired on Sunday August 21st at 9pm on Spike TV. If you are not on Pacific time, check your local listing for the time of the new episode. Note: This show pushes the edge and is not for children.....and may not be for certain adults if you feel you may have to "explain things" to them."
  • Here is the Sahara Lounge Facebook page, which is the bar that replaced The Bradley after it was sold.

Conclusion:

The Bradley kept the name of the bar after the Bar Rescue makeover, but closed just three months after Bar Rescue left.  They sold to another owner who didn't keep the concept and opened their own bar in that location.  It seems that the bar was holding the fetish events (Tantalizing Tuesday's) for some time and that Brad knew about it.  Also, it seems like the bar and Tantalizing Tuesday had a falling out after Bar Rescue came because some equipment was destroyed. Tantalizing Tuesday's never occurred at the bar after the Bar Rescue makeover.

Tim Owens' Travelers Tavern From 'Bar Rescue' To Close

Tim Owens' Travelers Tavern in Akron Ohio, which was featured on Bar Rescue in November 2015 has announced it will close.  They posted the following message on their Facebook page last night:
"It comes with a heavy heart and a huge amount of considering many options, but Tim and I have decided to close our venue. Words can not express the gratitude we have for everyone who came out and supported the restaurant and the local music scene. A lot of work went into making this place great, lots of blood sweat and tears (literally) to bring Akron a place it could be proud of. I believe we were successful at that , but at this time Tim and I are being pulled away from that focus to concentrate on our main jobs. Tim is touring more and more and I am needed at my landscape company. Both of these are very positive for Tim and I but creates a negative for the bar/restaurant. We have both agreed to sell to another person who will be more focused on creating a cool restaurant and possibly keeping the stage rocking a couple times a month. I personally will be contacting any acts we have booked to help find other venues for them to perform. Tim and I are very sorry for the inconvenience and hope everyone is understanding. Our last day for food will be September 2nd (huge party) , our last live music show will be September 3rd . LETS BLOW IT OUT!"

So it seems like the reason for closing had more to do with owners Tim and Micah focusing on their other ventures and not having time for the bar.  That message has been shared over 500 times and has over 200 comments of people saying they are sad to see the bar close.

Owner Tim also chimed in and said,
"Yes, all good things must come to an end!!! We hate to do this but like Micah said our main careers have just gotten way to busy ( Which is a good thing ) and that just makes it too hard on us and the business!! The Business was good, the staff was amazing, the bands rocked and the location couldn't of been better, So stop saying it wasn't and read our posts...Lets hope whoever buys it keeps, keeps the music, the great food and they have the time to put into it!!
( Even as I type this I am sitting in Seattle airport for business )
I thank you all for all the support!!
Tim Ripper Owens"

Someone asked owner Micah if it had anything to do with Bar Rescue, and he responded, "Bar rescue helped in its own way , I am able to step away and not be bankrupt , this is our choice."

This will be the 5th bar from Season 4 (4th set) of Bar Rescue to close and the Bar Rescue Updates page will be updated when the bar closes in September.

Bar Rescue - The Victory Bar (Celebrities Sports Grill) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Yucaipa, California to try to rescue Celebrities Sports Grill. Celebrities Sports Grill is owned by Max and Ryke Zahir and was once supposedly making $200,000 a month.  Max posted a video of him helping a homeless veteran which went viral and he tried to raise money for veterans through a GoFundMe page.  People found out that the homeless person wasn't actually a veteran and there was a lot of negative backlash online which Max ended up responding to.  This caused a lot of locals to get angry and the reputation of the bar and Max got much worse.  The bar is now supposedly losing $10,000 to $20,000 a month and is supposedly $750,000 in debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Celebrities Sports Grill to The Victory Bar and Restaurant.  The bar decided to keep the name, but closed shortly after the makeover. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Victory Bar and Restaurant since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
None

Negative Reviews:
  • "I heard Bar Rescue was here but what did they do other then change the sign which actually looks kinda cheesy. The place is still a dump. It's dark and just feels yucky. Food was bland, hardly anyone was in the place. The whole vibe was just negative."
  • "Can we go no stars? Hope everybody found a new job. This place is odd. It's a big ass chunky cheese type area, with a. Bar in the back. Perception is it's a mismatched bar with area given. It seems dirty. Bartender is nice. It's just odd. I dunno. I heard bar rescue was here, but it's not rescued. Whatever...."
  • "Bar Rescue came to help the restaurant????!!!! No way, there is no evidance this place is a mess. Bar Rescue should be ashamed to mentioned they "helped" this place. I went here for the first time on 4/22. Waitresses don't know the food or drink menu. "
  • "The vibe here isn't that great either. Some of the servers seem unhappy and lost. Had high hopes for this place since this is the third time the name has changed and they were just on Bar Rescue. Hopefully they figure something out because the location is pretty cool and they have an arcade for kids and pool tables."
  • "A sports bar that is clueless about sports. We walked in to watch the NCAA Final Four and it wasn't on any of their dozen + TVs. What was on? Spring training baseball, women's basketball, sportscenter. This was like the third time we had come to Celebrities to watch a major sporting event only to find the place empty and all the televisions tuned to sports highlights or something else."
  • "Worst dinner I've had in a long time. My boyfriend and i came in here for the very first time on a Saturday night. The place was empty, and still our waitress managed to forget us."

  • Here is the YouTube video of Max giving the homeless man a meal which went viral and has over 700k views.
  • Here is the GoFundMe page set up by Max for homeless veterans that has raised over $20,000 and is apparently still accepting donations.  I don't have any update on where the money raised has gone.
  • The Victory Bar and Restaurant, which appeared on the show is now closed.  It closed sometime in June 2016, so it was only open a month or so after the Bar Rescue makeover.
  • Here is a post about The Victory closing on a local Facebook Page from July that has tons of comments from locals.  There are a lot of comments with people saying they are glad and karma came back to get the bar.  Also an employee is saying she didn't get her last check and Max's wife is commenting and trying to defend the bar.  Also someone said they sent Jon Taffer a screenshot of Max blaming the show for his failure, but that post has apparently been deleted.
  • This is apparently the "homeless" guy from the video that went viral.
  • Here is a post on the Bar Rescue Facebook page telling them not to rescue Celebrities in Yucaipa.  The post is from Alycia, who is the person on the episode that calls out Max.  Alycia also claims Max was never a navy seal and the guy in the video wasn't homeless.
  • The filtered Yelp reviews at Celebrities have negative reviews calling out Max such as, "I refuse to support a business that falsely claims to be a nonprofit organization. Nearly $20k was supposedly going to homeless veterans that has not been donated but was accepted by Max. He has also claimed to be a Navy Seal and has never served in the US military. Upon asking for his 501c3 he sent me a message calling me a "c*nt" and told me to shut up about his bar."
  • Sabrina posted this about the upcoming episode, "Can't wait for it to air then die down already.... Shit is giving me anxiety .... Feels like reliving all the issues YUC had... Standing there in an empty restaurant, wondering why not a soul walked in... Only to find out some dumb shit happen earlier that day on the Internet or the night before "

Conclusion:

The Victory Bar and Restaurant kept the name given by Bar Rescue, but closed not long after the makeover.  All of the reviews after the makeover were negative and people didn't notice much different after Bar Rescue besides the new sign.  It seems like the bad online reputation from the GoFundMe page and viral video was too much to overcome for the bar.  The owners of the bar also own another bar in San Bernardino and it appears that bar is still open.

Bar Rescue - The Forbidden Pub (YNot Sports Pub) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Everett, Washington to try to rescue YNot Sports Pub. YNot Sports Pub has a filthy kitchen that needs to be cleaned and a walk-in refrigerator that has a bedroom door as an entrance.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of YNot Sports Pub to The Forbidden Pub. The bar kept the name for some time but have reverted back to the name of YNot Sports Pub. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for YNot Sports Pub since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "It's a solid sports pub, great for arena pre funk. The old bar is cool as ever. AJ was an awesome server who was busting her ass running all over."
  • "Wow what a place the food was amazing and the decor was amazing John taffer did a amazing job please see aubyn she is a amazing bartender"
  • "First time here after remodel. I like it so far. Good place to see a game or for karaoke. Recommendations shish fine cocktail and Bao Trio. Everett rising!!!"
Negative Reviews:
  • "Again, not sure what lane they're trying to drive in or what audience they're targeting, but I wasn't thrilled about our visit, but I didn't hate it either. I was feeling good from the beers earlier in the night, so maybe my judgement was off."
  • "This place is like giving a bar to a bunch of people who don't care. I walked in late Saturday night and couldn't get served at the bar. Mostly because no one was tending bar. "
  • "Recently, they have updated it into some sort of asian fusion theme and it totally doesn't fit the area. My husband, who absolutely loved hanging out at the Ynot, refuses to return since the changes. "
  • "The wings and tots are shriveled mini versions of what real food should look like, there was a brief stint before "Rescue" where they had a legit food vendor, but alas, those days are gone, and this is crap!"
  • "Service sucks, food was mediocre. It took 20 minutes to get a menu, another 15 to get water and then 30 for our food. The burger was very well done and my crispy Chicken was super dry! I'm standing at the bar trying to get my check and it's taking two waitresses and I'm on 5 minutes and counting."
  • "Like everyone else, came here because I heard it was remodeled and on Bar Rescue. The drink "Forsaken Fruit" was DELICIOUS. The meat on my pulled pork sliders seemed dry and burnt. And my husbands burger was overcooked and dry. Envoirment is confusing. Asian fusion? Sports bar? Country music?"
  • "First time here ever. Wanted to try after Bar Rescue but was shocked at the condition of the place. You are immediately struck when you first walk in - by the musty nasty smell coming from somewhere....This place is dumpy, divey, smells really bad, mediocre service, mediocre food. Can't imagine what it was like before but I would guess the same."

We were only a sports bar competing with all sports bars in everett ( because theres alot) i love the new name The Forbidden Pub... Why because we can now be more then just a sports bar. We still will be sports but also a nice place to come to for more then just pub food. .. were coming into a bar thats even brand new for us, we have so much to learn and organize in our new bar. All we want is to get organized, get our stuff back up, and make this our own for everyone to love as much as us. Its going to take some time to get it all together and perfect for all our customers.(new pos, put stuff back up, new employees trained to give 110% customer service!!! All i have ever wanted was a great bar, great staff, and customers who LOVE to come to our bar. So please bare with us threw our new venture we will get this perfected soon..... Thank you so much for your support "

But I don't want them to watch it."

    • She defended the name for months, but no one liked the name which is why they changed it back.
    • They took Bar Rescue's advice and condensed the menu and kept some cocktails.

Conclusion:

The bar has went back to the name YNot Sports Pub and didn't keep the name of The Forbidden Pub.  The reviews of the bar since the makeover are mostly negative with a lot of complaints about service. It seems like the bar liked what Bar Rescue did at first, but eventually decided to go back to their original theme.  They added back a lot of sports memorabilia, but they added a little less decorations than they originally had.

Bar Rescue - Fogline Bar & Grill (Russell City Grill) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Hayward, California to try to rescue Russell City Grill. Russell City Grill is a bar located in the industrial part of Hayward without much competition around.  The bar once had sales of about $50,000 a month, but is now supposedly $280,000 in debt due to bad ownership and bad customer service.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Russell City Grill to Fogline Bar & Grill and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Fogline Bar & Grill since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "I thought is was going to be a little sketchy at first because it's the only place open at night in the middle of an industrial area. But it's a cool place. A little neighbor bar with pool tables. Drinks were great and reasonably price."
  • "THE BEST SPORTS BAR IN HAYWARD! Food on point, tv's everywhere, and sound is superb! What more could you ask for? The taco's and are delicious and the wings are crispy and moist !"
  • "Recently remodeled, excellent menu for students at the college across the street. Friendly staff."
  • "I love the new look and the new food! The Bay Area burger is as home made as it gets! Perfect spot for a quick lunch break. I brought my laptop in and was able to use their free wifi too"
  • "The Tacos $1 each were damn good. The chicken strips were basic, nothing special but my coworker liked them. The place looks nice but a bit dark. I'd come back for tacos and to check out the night life."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Never coming back to this bar. Came here during the Warriors's 73rd win and was extremely disappointed. Not only did it take 20 minutes for my cousin to get a pitcher of beer, but it took us an hour just to ORDER food. The place is VERY UNDERSTAFFED. They only had one server and she said it was her first day. I give her a lot of credit for having to handle everyone by herself. I don't blame her at all. She tried her best to help us out. I blame the management. How do you only have one server during a Warriors game? They must not be used to a lot of service. "
  • "Even with a little lipstick.. this is still a Dump..I have been driving PAST this bar since 1994. It sucked then and still does."
  • " My main complaint was we had the worst waitress, I observed all the other waitresses and they where busting there ass to serve the guest, our waitress which I will say her name is love, everytime we order it took over a 1/2 hour to get our drinks or she would just forget about us"
  • "First and last time for this place !the word dump doesnt discribe it ! And a draft bud lite is $ 4.50 ???? They should be giveing it away just to keep people here!!!!!!! My other bar 4.50 gets u half pitchers ??dont was your time with this place !!!!!"

Conclusion:

Fogline Bar & Grill has kept the name given to them by Bar Rescue and the reviews of the bar since the rescue are mixed.  People seem to like the makeover, food, and atmosphere while the main complaint is about the service.

Fogline Bar doesn't have an official Facebook page and has a website with just a menu.  There are also a lot of old Russell City Grill pages/websites out there.  They may want to get this cleaned up a bit after appearing on the show.  Looking at all of the social media pages, it seems Fogline does have a lot of comedy events there, so it would probably be beneficial to post these on Facebook/a website.

Murphy's Law (Money Bar) From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Murphy's Law in Reno, Nevada from season 4 (3rd set) of Bar Rescue has closed.  When Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue were there, they renamed the bar to Money Bar, but the bar quickly went back to their original name of Murphy's Law.

On August 24th, 2016, the bar posted on Facebook:
"Hey all you guys who have been with us through all the thick and thin of Murphy's adventures, bar rescue lol, and our new friends: We will be closed temporarily while a new owner is coming in. Hopefully Monday it will reopen and look for exciting changes and some familiar faces. It is Reno lol!! Hope to see you all soon!"

Then on October 4th, 2016 the bar followed up with:
"Well time for an update.. Murphy's Law is officially done in more ways then one. To all the friends and supporters I bid you well!!! As far as the new Jimmy B's coming in, I wouldn't go near that if my life depended on it!!!!! Pm me if you would like more details. My name is Maria Bedient and I support this message."

So Maria was still involved with the bar despite Jon Taffer suggesting on the episode that she should no longer be apart of the bar.  It also looks like the sale wasn't too smooth based on Maria's message. This is the first bar from season 4(3rd set) of Bar Rescue to close and the Bar Rescue Updates Page has been updated with this information.

Bar Rescue - R. Lee's (Schafer's Bar & Grill) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Sumner, Washington to try to rescue Schafer's Bar & Grill.  Schafer's Bar & Grill was owned by Jeff Schafer and he decided to sell the bar to Ryan Burks and Nita Wyatt.  When they bought the bar, they decided to keep Jeff as a bartender and he is apparently sabotaging the business. Schafer's is supposedly $500,000 in debt and a month from closing.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Schafer's Bar & Grill to R. Lee's.  The bar quickly went back to their original name of Schafer's Bar & Grill and didn't like the makeover. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Schafer's Bar & Grill since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):
Positive Reviews:
  • "Great service, good food that was plentiful and good happy hour. We only wish that they had a choice of import beers on happy hour, but everything else was on point. Nice local bar!"
  • "I absolutely love this place. The staff is amazing , the food is excellent. If you ever get a chance to do the party bus I highly recommend it !!!! They have a amazing steak special that I love. Great place to win good prizes . Hawks games are super fun as well."
  • "We had a little 20 year get together with high school friends and it was a wonderful night. The bartenders, servers and bouncers kept complete control of the situation. The food is great. I have not had a drink there so I can not attest to that."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Let's just say "bar rescue" didn't rescue them. The food is good, but service has gone waaaay down within the last few years. I used to go all the time when I was 21-22 and was known by name and always had a great time, but recently it's been a lot worse."
  • "Used to be amazing! They got bar rescued and now known as R.Lees. hahaha. Complete half job joke. Used to love this place, won't be back now =( ....a bar rescue failure"
  • "We went into Schaffers to give them another shot after Bar Rescue. To us everything looked the same. Still had the same dirty carpet with gum stains all over, service was poor and slow....Waiter was rude and not observant unless you were at the bar or a friend..... We were unimpressed as it seems that nothing has changed. We will not be back."
  • "We thought we would check out the bar since we heard it had been changed. That was the worst experience I've ever had. We will never return. Which is sad because we were regulars. We went a few weeks after the bar rescue and sat down at a table by the pool tables. With in seconds our table was covered in ants. Yes bugs where we were going to be eating. The workers did nothing when we got up and said we were leaving do to hundreds of ants on our table. It was so bad that when we got into our car to leave we had ants crawling all over our clothes. The grossest thing I have ever delt with."
  • "Checked this place out a few days after the Bar Rescue renovation. Don't know what it looked like before but the lay out is pretty horrible. Looks like a before photo not the after. Customer service sucked. I didn't feel welcome at all."
  • "We went to try the new bar out last night and had a terrible experience. The waitress was very nice but seemed to be too busy to help at times. The owner came to the table and then left abruptly mid conversation. The food was good but sparse. The owner returned about 30 min later and left us again abruptly to talk with people at another table. This place clearly needs another rescue judging by the way we were treated."

  • Here are the Facebook pages of Nita (owner), Ryan (owner), Jeff (former owner/bartender), Lindsay bartender), and more are below.
  • Right after the makeover, owner Nita posted this on her Facebook Page:
"I would like to apologize for all the BS that Ryan and I have put all of our staff through. Jeff, Dana, Little Billie, Lindsay, and Bronson. We should have stuck to our gut when #barRescue called us the 1st time. Our answer was NO they should be called #BarFuckups cause we could have done everything they did ourselves without drama and then telling us what to say. No to mention the Half Ass job they did. I use to be a fan but going to through all this shit has made me realize I may have needed to research deeper. They say they do research to create something unique and different that people are driven to. If they did they wouldn't have made our bar the same bar as everyone els in sumner. This leads me to believe all their research is done at only bars in the area to get ideas of how to decorate. IF WE WANTED A BAR LIKE EVERYONE ELS WE WOULD HAVE CHANGED IT LONG AGO. As a bar hopper myself I prefer a variety I don't want every bar exactly the same that would be boring. I would like to send a special thank you to all the locals and regulars Who have helped us move and put shit back. Stacy your 1 in a million for all your hard work thank you Candisfuck your my Ride or Die Bitch I couldn't live without ya girl. Crystal your a fucking champ coming in to help with all the mess. For those of you I've missed I apologize. And R.Lee's was to be after our son his name is Ryder Lee. Truth be told we are still Schafer's until new signs come in and the name will be Ryder's Bar & Grill. What they gave us for a name sounds tooooo much like my ex's name. Last thing I need is him to walk in cause he would probably think the same not knowing we owned it.
Sincerely, Nita"
  • Right after the makeover, the bar posted, "We are not a country bar for those who think we are. We are a sports bar but have to pick up the pieces and get back to that look."
    • Someone also responded on that post saying it was Bar Rescue that called them (four times), and the show ""even had cue cards telling them what to say, they sabotaged their business , even going as far as turning their phone off. They had 20 paid actors the night of the stress test!!!"
  • Also right after the makeover, the bar stated, "Yes we are still Schafers the other sign is coming down this week. We never applied to change the DBA so not sure what they were thinking & R.Lee's really not a fan."
  • In a post where someone asked the bar if they were having a watch party for the show, Ryan said "Fuck bar rescue." and followed up with, "I knew those assholes would rip into Nita and I and we were prepared. But when they started making us do things against our morals and make us say and do things that aren't true that's where I draw the line. I just get defensive when people talk shit about our business when they just wanna listen to people who think they know what they are talking about. And everyone bases their opinion on the Friday/Saturday crowd."
    • In another post on that thread, Ryan says, " I'm not a bartender, Dana is a rockstar, Nita isn't an alcoholic and never drinks on shift, Jeff was not trying to sabotage us and wasn't trying to get bar back, and our kitchen is not dirty and they told me to have Bronson destroy the food on purpose, and they took our bottles away so we couldn't make drinks.  All of us had meetings and as a team at the time we all decided it would have been a good thing to do to try to better the bar and we gave everyone the option to participate or not participate.  Hindsight knowing now that it wasn't what we needed to do.  I do thank the customers who have supported us through this process and said positive things and helped us get the bar back to where people feel at home and are happy."
  • In an online comment posted by owner Ryan, he said the following:
    • They were called by Bar Rescue and were promised an amazing makeover.
    • "During my first interview I was asked how much money we are losing each month. My exact words to the producer were “what would you like me to say”. Producers response “for our story you are losing $10,000 a month and losing your house and closing down next month”. All of which isn’t true."
    • "Jeff Schafer is a great man and was never trying to sabotage us at all. That was made up by bar rescue producers to create drama. The same goes for when they forced us to fire him which we hired him back immediately."
    • "Their producers told us to make our kitchen dirty and to increase ticket times. I will show proof that our kitchen always gets a perfect score on our health board inspections."
    • "As for Lindsey walking out, she left because bar rescue producers removed the bottles necessary to make the drinks they asked for and she was pissed off. I knew it was all an act so I acted like I knew nothing."

Conclusion:

The bar quickly changed the name from R. Lee's back to Schafer's Bar & Grill after Bar Rescue left as they didn't like the name or the interior changes.  The reviews for the bar lean towards negative with people complaining about service and saying the place doesn't look like it was rescued.

Owners Ryan and Nita are unhappy with their experience of Bar Rescue and have apologized to their staff for bringing the show in.  They said that Jeff wasn't trying to sabotage them and was hired back and that Bar Rescue removed bottles necessary to make drinks causing Lindsey to walk out.  I bet that Ryan will also comment on the episode after the full one airs, so if anything else is revealed, I will update this post.

Bar Rescue - Sam Jordan's Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in San Francisco, California to try to rescue Sam Jordan's. Sam Jordan's is a bar that has been open since 1959 and is named after its founder Sam Jordan who was a boxing champion and a Navy veteran. The bar was the first African-American owned bar in the city and received historic landmark status in 2013. Sam passed away in 2003 and the bar was inherited by his children.  The bar is supposedly $500,000 in debt, which is why Bar Rescue is there.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of the bar due to its history and it still goes by the name of Sam Jordan's. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Sam Jordan's since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "I gotta say that even though I like the drinks and that's what I'd expect to be the speciality, the food is very delicious here. I've had the fried chicken, ribs, and corn wheels and I would recommend those to anyone trying to decide what to order....The drinks go pretty well with the food too and I've had a couple I liked...I thought the service was very friendly and easy to talk to....It's got a nice neighborhood bar feel to it."
  • "Why do San Franciscans avoid a neighborhood with culture and flavor? Come to this place and get amazing cocktails with a side of great food! Treasure took great care of us. Yeah, we were the only peeps of the Caucasian Persuasion in the place but the staff and patrons made us feel welcome. America and unity is alive and well in this age and for that I thank love for all and love for Sam Jordan's!"
  • "Great food and good music tiffany is a great bartender my favorite and dj hype is awsome"
Negative Reviews:

None

*Reviews from Yelp, Google

Other News and Links:
  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in July 2016.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2.
  • Here is the Sam Jordan's Facebook Page.  There is also another Facebook Page for the bar which is a little less active.  They also have an Instagram page which is big on wishing people happy birthday.
  • The bar did have a website, but it looks like the domain name has expired.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Ruth (owner), Vikki (bartender), and  Tiffani (bartender).
  • Here are more Yelp reviews of the bar from before the makeover and they are pretty much all positive with a 4-star average.  There are a lot of compliments on the BBQ.
  • In a local article a few weeks after the makeover, it was revealed that:
    • Ruth Jordan wrote Bar Rescue a letter about four years ago, and they finally got the call to be on the show.
    • It was a 10-day makeover that included a "modern interior, with marble walls covered in framed photos that showcase the history of the bar. New barstools and tables, complete with customized table tents displaying the food menu, have been added, as have three large flat-screen televisions for sports enthusiasts."
    • Ruth said that although Jon Taffer is known for belittling people, he didn't do that with her.  She is pleased with what they did with the bar and anything else that needs to be worked on can be done themselves.
  • Here is the Landmark Designation Report for Sam Jordan's, which is about 30 pages long.  So if you want to know more information about the history of Sam Jordan's, it is all in that report.

Conclusion:

The bar kept the name of Sam Jordan's as Bar Rescue decided not to change the name due to its history.  The few reviews the bar has have all been positive with complements on the food and atmosphere.  The bar is happy with the makeover and it seems like things went smooth with the Bar Rescue makeover.  It also seems like the bar had positive reviews before the makeover and it is hard to see how there was a $500,000 debt for a bar that has been in business since 1959.

Bar Rescue - Tradewinds Bar Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Cotati, California to try to rescue Tradewinds Bar. Tradewinds is a bar that is co-owned by Eric Loria and Dan Thompson, but they also gave manager Chase Meyers a 20% stake for running the bar.  Chase isn't too focused on making the bar a success and even leaves to go to the bar across the street.  The bar is supposedly $300,000 in debt and a few months from closing.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of the bar and it still goes by the name of Tradewinds. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Tradewinds Bar since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "went for the bar rescue reveal- had the meat calzone. My friend had the chicken one- they looked inconsistent- hopefully once they get used to the new menu that will changeAwesome, but overpriced- had a mai tai, was god, but small for price. Shot pool. Like the table-seemed new- but I never was in the bar before. I look forward to coming for live music."
  • "The female owner is really sweet (didn't meet her husband), and the drinks are great! Pretty inexpensive too. The setting of the bar leaves something to be desired though. I'm not wild about the Gilligan/tropical theme. Before the remodel it was really dark and loungey which I loved. I also liked the old sign wayyy more... I'm sad it's gone."

Negative Reviews:
  • "I won't be back here ever again. My first experience of this place was being on that show 'Bar Rescue'....I tried the new drinks being on the show and they were disgusting. Especially this cocoa puff milky concoction that made me want to vomit. However, to be kind I smiled and nodded at the camera as I choked it down. "
  • "Awful terrible bar staff! Waited 20min just to be acknowledged by the bartender who was moving as slow as a snail....The bouncer was rude when I had asked if I had to wait in the long line again after I was already stamped and said yes you have to wait just like everyone else and then proceeds to let these two other girls just walk right in that they were friends with...I honestly love all bars and clubs but this place really was unwelcoming. I won't be coming back or encourage any of my friends to come. Definitely would have given no stars if I could."
  • "The bar staff is very VERY untrained. 2 of the most popular cocktails ordered and they didn't know how to make them... A Manhattan, and a Moscow Mule.,,Wasn't busy when we were in...yet somehow took my friends 25 min to get our 2nd round....The music was way too loud for the crowd, and the building....
  • So, horrible service, horrible bartenders, horrible drinks, and obnoxious atmosphere...? We won't be returning for a pregaming sesh here...ever. Maybe the newbie 21 year college students might be able to overlook all of the above for the new owners sake..."

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in June 2016.

  • Here is the Tradewinds Bar Facebook Page and their website.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Dan (owner), Traci (owner), Eric (owner), Chase (owner/manager), Daniell (bartender).
  • The bar is having a watch party at the bar and the description of the event says, "Bar Rescue showing at 10pm! Well, October 23rd at 10pm on Spike TV, Tradewinds Bar episode will be aired. It's titled "Chase's Lounge"! For all of you who didn't know my family took part in a reality TV show . Have fun with it as they make me us look like the idiots that we are for doing the show. Actually it was a lot of fun. Just remember reality is not always reality. Hell I got called a lemon as if I were a car and should be returned. Lol."
  • Tradewinds responded to a review right after the makeover stating, "The bathrooms are being addressed in Wednesday. They could only do so much in 36 hours. They wanted to replace the cement floors but the health department tied us up with so many things in order to serve food in bar that most of the improvements were items that you don't see . But brought the building up to code. We will continue to improve the bar and make it a great place for all to visit."
  • Someone posted a video on Facebook of the bathrooms and the interior of the bar after the makeover showing old graffiti in the bathroom and old dirty floors in the bar.  Owner Eric responded to that video stating, "Mr. Mitchell, good job on your investigative reporting. What you failed to report in your story is that you came into the establishment when it was not opened to the public. If you don't like what you saw, all you have to do is not go to the establishment. That is the beauty of the freedom allowed to American citizens. The TV show only does what will be seen on TV. Did you actually take the time to ask the people working there what their side of the story was? Did you ask them if they had more than 5 hours of sleep every night the show was being filmed? Did you ask if the TV show took care of 100% of all the details? I assume not. If this video makes you feel all warm and comfy inside, then good for you. If you wanted to report the truth, you really missed the mark."
  • According to Chase, Bar Rescue came back to the bar to film in September 2016, so look for Tradewinds to be on a Back to the Bar episode.

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue decided to keep the name of Tradewinds Bar so they still go by the same name.  The reviews since the Bar Rescue makeover are mostly negative with complaints about the service and the bartenders.  It seems like locals think that not much was done by Bar Rescue with the makeover.  The bar said that due to the changes with their food, the health department tied a lot of things up and Bar Rescue was unable to do things like replace the floor. Tradewinds doesn't seem upset with the makeover and they are trying to move forward with the Bar Rescue changes.

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Colorado Springs, Colorado to try to rescue Brickhouse Bar & Grill. Brickhouse Bar & Grill is owned by Jon Nicholls and his excess drinking is causing conflicts with his staff.  He is hooking up with one of the bartenders, but he also flirts with the customers which is causing drama.  The bar is supposedly $300,000 in debt and a few months from closing.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Brickhouse Bar & Grill to Garrison Tavern and the bar has kept the name, however it is listed for sale.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Garrison Tavern since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "New food and barstaff are amazing. The philly rolls are to die for.. had a great time and cant wait for another night like that again"
  • "Great Tavern, good beer, and love the dart boards, will be coming back for sure."
  • "Absolutely hometown Small town feel... with a big city kick..... great food, great people, great atmosphere and the cheapest draft prices ive seen.."
  • "I had a great time, the staff treated everyone in a friendly manner, it was a pleasure to actually sit and relax while meeting new people who treated me like we've known each other our entire lives. It was great to be able to round my evening off with a fantastic meal, yes yes I will be back."
  • "this place is perfect for everyone the owner is the nicest guy and the people behind the bar are the cherry on top"
Negative Reviews:
  • "This place is horrible even after a "bar rescue". The bartenders are super slow and the food is a joke."
*Reviews from Facebook, Google

Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in late July/early August 2016.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2.
  • Here is the Garrison Tavern Facebook Page and their profile picture is the Bar Rescue logo.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Jon (owner), Nicoll (bartender), and Rita (bartender).
  • The bar was listed for sale within a week after Bar Rescue finished their makeover.  It is still listed for sale on Loopnet for $148,000.  The description states, "3580 sqft Bar & Grill with full Kitchen. Will be featured on Hit T.V show BAR RESCUE in 2016! Great location downtown Colorado Springs Colorado! Recently Remodeled. Great location downtown Colorado Springs Colorado. Revitalization project going on with 200+ apartment units going up around us!"
  • The bar also is listed for sale on Craigslist for $159,000 with the description, "Colorado Springs Downtown Bar & Grill with TAVERN Liquor License for sale in Growing neighborhood right next door to the BLUE DOT Place! There will be high end apartments opening in the next couple of months next door and more coming across the street by next year. City has approved a revitalization plan for our block and will be adding new side walks, trees, shrubs, bike racks and best of all room for outdoor patio seating in front of the building. approximately 4000 sqft of bar upstairs, 1276 sqft basement with two walk in coolers; full kitchen, billiards room, basement, outdoor patio area and parking. Unfinished basement and roof top are excellent areas for expansion!"
  • A local blog had a post after the makeover and had some positive things to say but said the basement and back billiards area were untouched by Bar Rescue
  • In a recent interview on Afterbuzz TV, Jon Taffer said that owner Jon gave him something at the end of the episode that moved him to tears, but didn't reveal what it was.

Conclusion:

The bar kept the name of Garrison Tavern, but right after the makeover they listed the bar for sale. Garrison Tavern has mostly positive reviews although most are on Facebook where reviews tend to be positive. With the bar going up for sale so quickly, they either used Bar Rescue for a makeover with hopes of selling it or Bar Rescue recommended they put it up for sale. We will see if the update at the end of the show says the bar is up for sale.

Bar Rescue - The Roc Bar & Nightclub (Fort One) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in San Francisco, California to try to rescue Fort One Bar & Lounge. Fort One Bar & Lounge is owned by Jason Wanigatunga and it was given to him by his father.  He is giving out too many free drinks, the bartenders are drinking too much during their shifts, and the bar is supposedly $200,000 in debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to change the name of Fort One Bar & Lounge to The Roc Bar & Nightclub and the bar has kept the name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Roc Bar & Nightclub since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "This spot is awesome. Ray is an excellent bartender and ringmaster. The crowd is upbeat and fun. Karaoke crowd was incredible. Lots of participation in a non-judgmental atmosphere. I've traveled the world and this spot is a new all time favorite!"
  • "We loved the service and live music so much that we stayed for a few more drinks. What was supposed to be a one drink stop turned into a couple of hours stop. The decor was also pretty cool. It was Alcatraz themed. We will definitely come back the next time that we are in San Francisco!"
  • "The Roc is a great bar on Fisherman's Wharf! They offer happy hour from 2-7 p.m.! $5 draft beers, $5 bottled beer and $5 well drinks! It's the perfect spot to go if you want to grab a drink that is priced fairly, especially on Fisherman's Wharf! Very friendly bartenders, who know the area well, and are full of dining suggestions. Will be back!"
  • "Service is awesome and the bartenders are on it....super fast and friendly. Music is also on point. When I go out, I look for a place I can dance with my girlfriends that isn't super crowded or hot. I was not disappointed. Crowd has all walks of life and the venue is in a great location by the water. Definitely my new favorite sport for girls night!"
Negative Reviews:
  • "The bar was using some dirty cheating strategies to attract Halloween costume players to come over and stay late, but not even gave the so-called $1000 costume contest prize to anyone! Me and my friends have to purchase the $20 ticket to get in, and stay until 2:00am to wait for the winner announcement, but u know what, the winner was not even existing cuz no one knows who get the fucking prize and they wouldn't let us know! Also, they r on bar rescue, so this contest might be their last straw. Anyway, changing the name cannot help your infamous reputation! You sucks!"
  • "So unfair!!!! The bar was cheating the customers! And this bar does not respect our traditional festival!!! Halloween costume competition was total a joke yesterday!!! It made us stay until midnight but did not give out the price to the winner! They did not even pick the winner! It was just a cheat so that people can stay late and buy drinks, which is so awful and expensive! Will never come back again!!!"
  • "Great location. Not much of a beer selection. No local brews. Should probably cut the cocktail waitress off. She was wasted and a bit rude. Didn't know how to make any of the drinks on special. Didn't even honor happy hour pricing."
  • "I visited this club for my sisters birthday , one word TERRIBLE . Security here is terrible, there was so many guys pushing girls and didn't get kicked out. One of the bouncers pushed me to the ground I had no drinks completely sober , got up and pushed him he said bitch your done , as if he wanted to hit me . Terrible club no respect for women . Wouldn't recommend this club to anyone , thirsty grimey guys security (short Mexican ) is terrible I just can not express ho I appalled I am by the fact no security here had any respect for women . Do not come "

  • Jason's dad owned another bar which closed in 2012 due to over $100,000 in back rent being owed. (Link)
  • A lot of the Yelp reviews for The Roc Bar & Nightclub are left by employees and friends of employees (Ashley, Ray, Kiki, Desiree, Cherie, Lynette), so the rating is a bit skewed.
  • The Yelp reviews before the Bar Rescue visit were pretty terrible with people complaining about the service, overpriced cover charge, rude security and management.  Here they are if you want to read them.
  • You can actually reserve VIP tables for The Roc through Yelp and they are charging about $50 per person ($400 for table of 8, $500 for a table of 10) on a Saturday night. (Link)
  • Olivia is no longer working at The Roc according to this Facebook comment and it also appears that Scotty is no longer involved as he is the GM at a bar called Origin.

Conclusion:

The bar has kept the name of The Roc Bar & Nightclub given to them by Bar Rescue and the reviews of the bar are mixed.  People seem to like the location and the music, while there are complaints about security and beer selection.  Many of the positive reviews are left by employees of The Roc Bar & Nightclub. There also seem to be complaints about a recent Halloween party at the bar.  It seems like there has been a bit of turnover at the bar since Bar Rescue visited as Olivia and Scotty are no longer at the bar.

Bar Rescue - Triple Nickel Tavern Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Colorado Springs, Colorado to try to rescue Triple Nickel Tavern.  The Triple Nickel Tavern's owner JJ has had some recent deaths in the family and has lost interest in running the bar due to that.  The bar went from bringing in $25,000 a month to about $150,000 in debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Triple Nickel Tavern.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Triple Nickel Tavern since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Triple Nickel rules! Best dive in the springs. Great place to see live music too. And the chicken wings are great!"
  • "I know FB reviews don't mean a lot but hey, if you're reading this you should definitely hit this bar if you're in the Springs. Great jukebox, great people working there, they book great bands when they come through town, the drinks are priced right, and they just got some new food going on which is stellar. do it, you won't regret it."
  • "Great music and great people, what more could you ask for."
Negative Reviews:
  • "Your typical dive bar. The only exception is the reality show bar rescue came in and really screwed up the joint. By the time you get there, they should have all that mess fixed up."
  • "All I can say is boo to bar resue..."
*Reviews from Facebook, Google

  • Here is the Triple Nickel Tavern website and the Triple Nickel Facebook Page.
  • Here are the Facebook Pages of JJ (owner), Sierra (bartender), Jacob (bartender/manager), Randy (bartender), Steven (bartender), Reid (bartender)
  • Here is the Facebook page of JJ's band Nobody's.
  • The bar has a Facebook event for the episode premiere and it seems like they are joking about what is going to happen.  The bar commented, "God I can't even take this serious. I'm on verge of laughing the whole time"
  • A local blog had a post about the makeover, which pretty much said it was done poorly.  There are complaints about the cheap bar stools and the bar top finish.  It also said Triple Nickel Tavern was solicited to be on the show and they didn't call for help.
    • In the comments of that article, another local bar owner said he was contacted to be on the show and went through interviews, but they would have to create drama and say they were losing money, so they decided not to do the show.
  • A CS Indy article said the Triple Nickel has already removed the bar top finish and has sanded it down.
  • Here are the Yelp reviews of Triple Nickel Tavern before the Bar Rescue makeover, which are mostly positive.
  • Triple Nickel Tavern was listed for sale in 2012, but I guess JJ decided not to sell.

Conclusion:

Triple Nickel Tavern kept the name of their bar after the Bar Rescue visit, and the reviews of the bar are mostly positive, but they were also positive before the Bar Rescue visit.  It seems like people weren't impressed with the changes Bar Rescue made and that the bar had to fix things done by Bar Rescue such as the bar top.  It also seems that Triple Nickel is joking about their appearance on the show and that they made their episode entertaining on purpose.
