Stein Haus From Bar Rescue Has Closed

$

Stein Haus bar in Pomona, California, which was featured on season four (2nd set of episodes) of Bar Rescue has closed.  The closure of the bar was casually mentioned in a local article, but no reason for the closure was given.  The bar's Facebook page stopped posting in November, so it appears the bar closed sometime in November.   This post on their Facebook page also confirms that they have closed and their Yelp page has the business as closed as well.

Stein Haus (formerly Friar Tuck's) is the third bar from season four (2nd set) to close and the Bar Rescue Update Page has been updated with that information.  2nd State/Alleged Bar and P's and Q's Autobody were two other bars that were recently marked closed, but I didn't do a post on those.

Bar Rescue - Stand Up Scottsdale Update Part 2 - Back To The Bar

Tonight on Bar Rescue is a special Back To The Bar episode, and one of the bars being visited is Stand Up Scottsdale.  Judging by the past and by looking at the preview for the episode, this figures to be a controversial episode, so I figured I would do another post on this bar.

Howard Hughes, the owner of Stand Up Scottsdale has been very vocal in the past about how he didn't like Bar Rescue and the changes made to his bar.  He has also responded to many fan comments and questions on a previous post on this website and made fun of people for believing in reality TV.

Back in July 2015, when Bar Rescue revisited for their Back to the Bar episode, Stand Up Scottsdale posted the following photo:

In a recent post on Facebook, Howard said, "very little lately more enjoyable than destroying in front of Bar Rescue fans. Their faces and their comments afterward are priceless. Jon Taffer is an undeniable fraud; he's the Vince McMahon of the bar industry."

In one of the comments of the previous post for Stand Up Scottsdale, Howard says, "And even more good news for fans of BR: I just went back and shot an instudio recap and just like you would hope for, it is epic. Jon is still a loud mouth fraud (I imagine many will say the same of me), so keep in touch for our video recap fo the actuality of what Bar rescue did...to the dopiest of Br fans, it'll all seem like the reality couldn't be possible but it'll be eye opening to reasonable people."

Also, there is a viewing party of the episode tonight at Stand Up Scottsdale, which says, "The first time wasn't enough!  I went back for a "confronting" episode and, well, it worked. Come see the amazing story Bar Rescue weaves this time around; I imagine I end up getting arrested ;-)"

Howard said he is launching a podcast after the show, which I am sure he will reveal more things and try to bash the show, so stay tuned.  My guess is he will be responsive to comments on here again...

O Face Owner Arrested on Suspicion of Sexual Abuse

Matthew Overmyer, the co-owner of Bar Rescue's most infamous episode at O Face, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree sexual abuse and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse by the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office (Link to arrest document).

Omaha.com reports that the assault took place at a house, and Overmyer attacked an adult woman who works at O Face at midnight on Tuesday.  He reportedly "used physical force, including choking, to have sex with the victim twice."  The victim called several people after the alleged attack, and one source told investigators that Overmyer tried to re-enter the room after the victim locked him out.

The suspected assault allegedly took place while Overmyers wife (co-owner of the bar) was out of town.

Matthew Overmyer did not speak to investigators and his lawyer said he will plead not guilty and expects the case to be dismissed.  Overmyer faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted and is free after posting a $50,000 bail.

I will keep you updated on the progress of this story and the case as more details emerge.

Also, I know many people think O Face is closed due to multiple review sites listing it as closed, however the bar is still open.  After this, who knows....

The End From Bar Rescue Has Closed

The End bar in Las Vegas, Nevada, which was featured on season three (2nd set of bars) of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar was originally named The Underworld Bar and Grill before Jon Taffer and his team renamed it to The End.  The bar posted the following message on their Facebook page at the end of January:
"To our friends, family, and wonderful valued customers;
We regret to inform you that due to the inability to agree on the new terms for the extension on the lease for that building, The End is now closed! We want to thank everyone for your years of continued love and support, and let you know this is not over, this is not the end, you will see us again!
Thank you!"
It sounds like they may try to re-open if they can find another location.  They did move locations after Bar Rescue visited, so a move wouldn't be something new for them.

This is the sixth bar from season three (2nd set) of Bar Rescue to close and the Bar Rescue Updates Page has been updated with this information.  If they do open up in a new location, I will do another update.

Downey's Irish Pub From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Downey's Irish Pub in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from season 1 of Bar Rescue has closed.  Philly.com reported the closure and noted that their liquor license is in safekeeping status, meaning they cannot legally serve alcohol (Link to PA licenses - click on Philadelphia, and Downey's is the first license listed and is in safekeeping).

Downey's was listed for sale in May 2015 for $2.9 million, but I guess they never found a buyer at that price.  The bar will now go to sheriff's sale due to foreclosure on May 3rd, 2016 and the opening bid is $124,100 with an assessed value of $936,600. (Link to Sheriff Sale site - Use 526 S FRONT ST as the address to search).  The Philly.com article also states "City records show $80,712.43 in taxes, interest, and penalties for 2013 to 2016" for Downey's.

Downey's was still advertising on their Facebook Page on February 29th, so it appears the bar closed shortly after that.

This is the fourth bar from season 1 of Bar Rescue to close and the Bar Rescue Updates Page has been updated with this information.  Jon Taffer has done four Bar Rescue makeovers in the Philadelphia area, and all four are now closed - Downey's, Swanky Bubbles, Lickety Split/2nd State Lounge, and Plush/Osteria Calabria.

Bar Rescue - Boulder Lodge Bar & Grill (Mac and Chester's SRO) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Oak Grove, Minnesota to try to rescue Mac and Chester's Standing Room Only.  This is the 100th episode of the show and Mac and Chester's SRO is a bar that also has softball fields outside.  There are two feuding owners and one owner is ready to leave the business while the other has his marriage on the line.  The bar is supposedly losing $6,000 a month and bikers have taken over which is scaring customers away.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Mac and Chester's Standing Room Only was renamed to Boulder Lodge Bar & Grill, and they have kept the new bar name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Boulder Lodge Bar & Grill since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:
  • "Very small menu.Burger was tasty. Bathrooms are a mess.Recent updates should have included them..... Overall a decent place to try if in Northern Anoka County...."
  • "This place is much nicer since the updates but still nothing special. Menu is very limited. I had a burger and it was flavorless and forgettable. Several other places nearby have more variety and better food for the same price."

  • Todd Chester seems to be involved in some shady business based on internet articles:

BUT IN RETURN Todd Chester AND I WERE BLESSED WITH A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY. SOMETHING THAT MAY MAKE SENSE TO SOME AND NOT TO OTHERS, MAY MAKE SOME UNCOMFORTABLE AND MAY MAKE OTHERS LAUGH... THOUGH I HAVE A TOUGH TIME LAUGHING AT MY UGLY CRY FACE.. I WANT THE "BIKER COMMUNITY" TO KNOW THIS ISN'T TO KEEP YOU AWAY, IT'S TO ENSURE YOU ARE NOT ONLY CUSTOMERS BUT OUR FRIENDS. AND WE WILL WATCH THE REST OF THE EPISODE ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE FOR THE FIRST TIME...SO CHEERS TO ANOTHER RIDING SEASON... XOOX"
  • There is a Dirty Rotten Biker Fest at the bar on May 7, 2016 (Link).

Conclusion:

Boulder Lodge Bar & Grill has kept the name of their bar since the Bar Rescue makeover and seem happy with the makeover with sales up about 35 percent.  There are only a few reviews of the bar and those reviews are pretty average.  The bar seems to still welcome bikers despite Bar Rescue portraying bikers as being a problem for the bar.

Bar Rescue - Crafted (Van Goghz Martini Bar & Bistro) Update

$

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in St. Louis, Missouri to try to rescue Van Goghz Martini Bar & Bistro.   Dani Davis is the owner and worked at the bar as a bartender before eventually buying it.  She is supposedly $250,000 in debt and losing $2,500 a month, but would rather vape in the corner of the bar than engage with her customers.  There is also a filthy kitchen and a dog running around in the bar.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Van Goghz Martini Bar & Bistro was renamed to Crafted, and they have kept the new bar name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Crafted since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Popped in for a happy hour with a friend and LOVED the changes! Fried goat cheese, tots with curry catsup...yum!! Those tots and sauces are LEGIT. Will definitely be back!"
  • "The upgraded decor, pressed cocktail offerings, wine selection and ambiance are very complimentary to their awesome new menu!...I'm forty, and it's nice to have fun without being surrounded by 21 year olds. I highly recommend the food, and Kristin and Allison are professional, efficient and courteous."
  • "I first came to this bar a few years back when it was Van Goghz, and i love the changes being made as Crafted. The owner is making great strides to spice up the menu, however, you have to try the pepper fruit press and stuffed portabellas...This has turned into my favorite place to stop into for dinner and drinks, and highly recommend it to everyone I know."
  • "I've been frequenting this establishment for over a year. Friendly staff, amazing food, delicious drinks. Fun place to see familiar people, and meet new. The renovations have great ambiance...updated menu and new drinks are awesome. Everything is fresh...the tots are amazing...and I love the different fry sauces."
  • "The tater tots were so awesome. Cute cozy corner restaurant. Ordered the ravioli - I would say they were more like sausage wontons - fried. The drinks were cute, you can definitely taste the pressed ingredients. "
  • "As someone who visited here while it was Van Goghz, I was excited to see the new space. I really like the new decor, it's a more modern feel while being warm and inviting. If you are someone who likes sitting at the bar vs. a table, this is one of the more comfortable bars. Bartender was very friendly and engaging. I tried a pressed cocktail, which I found to be very innovative."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Anyway, on to the menu... my very first thoughts upon scanning were "that's it?" and "who the F decided to plug the "CRAFTED." logo in every time the word is used. It's poor design and it's annoying. The pressed cocktails are cool in theory, but when my tiny (and adorable) french press arrived and I eagerly pressed down, nothing happened. There weren't enough blueberries on the bottom to actually allow for any pressing to occur...Needless to say we won't be adding this place to our list of regular spots. I had high hopes for this neighborhood spot, but I think it's just Van Goghz 2.0, sadly."
  • "Wasn't thrilled with this place. The menu was SUPER boring. I usually have the problem of not being able to decide what to pick because I always want everything on a menu, but nothing stood out to me on this menu...The place was also unnaturally quiet for a Friday night. We didn't even notice that the place had filled up because you could hear a pin drop in there. It just wasn't our scene. We won't be back."
  • "The menu is boring and the food was only mediocre. Every one of the larger plates is some sort of burger (beef, chicken patty, turkey patty, veggie burger) with nothing too creative for a place called "Crafted". The pressed drinks were good but would be good not pressed too so in my mind a bit of a novelty"

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in November 2015
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2.
  • Here is the Crafted Facebook Page  which isn't too active and their website.  They are also active on Twitter.  (Here is the old Van Goghz Facebook Page which was converted to Crafted, but isn't too active.)
  • Crafted has kept the $6.99 steak night on Wednesday nights which was popular at Van Goghz.
  • In a Feast Magazine article, owner Dani Davis said that she got a cold call from Bar Rescue to be on the show, but told them her bar was not failing.  They told her they like to help boost business for people like her and she decided it was a good business decision to be on the show.  She also said that she loves the new name and concept and was probably going to rebrand even if the show didn't come.
  • Another Feast Magazine article has an interview with Dani, where she said she was called three separate times to be on the show, but finally responded to an email.  She also said after Bar Rescue came, business has been boosted.
  • A local article that mentions Crafted raves about their cocktails and the concept of the cocktails served in French presses.
  • Reviews of Van Goghz before the makeover were not too bad before the makeover with a 3.5 star average (out of 5) on Yelp (Link).

Conclusion:

Crafted has kept the name and concept given by Bar Rescue and most of the reviews for the bar are positive, although the reviews before Bar Rescue were not bad.  A lot of people like the new cocktails that are served in the French presses and people seem to like the tater tots, but there are a few negative reviews about the menu.

According to Dani, the bar wasn't struggling before Bar Rescue, but they were contacted by the show and convinced to do it for publicity.  This is the case for some of the bars that have appeared on Bar Rescue due to how they cast bars for the show.  They usually pick a city and then trying to find multiple bars to rescue in that city.

Bar Rescue - Cayman Cove (Dale 1891) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Tampa, Florida to try to rescue Dale 1891.   Dale 1891 has three co-owners and during the rescue, Jon discovers one is siphoning the profits.  The owners also own a movie theater which is in the same shopping center.  The bar is supposedly losing $5,000 a month and they are behind on rent

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Dale 1891 was renamed to Cayman Cove, and they have kept the new bar name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Cayman Cove since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:

  • "My dart league shoots here on Tuesdays and it was out turn at this establishment. The decor is nice and colorful. The staff seemed nice and friendly and quick on drinks....My friends all liked they're drinks and beer..Only complaint I had was the A/C it was to hot in there . they had the A/C going but the patio door wide open . so needless to say the A/C wasn't cooling off no one..All in all I like this place"
  • "The best Friday night spot to be great DJ sink or swim till 1 am never any drama and it's a great mix crowd that everyone can enjoy...."
  • "Sooooooo disappointed... Had such high expectations after Bar Rescue came through. Tried 3 items off the "new island style menu"... Steak skewers (microwaved meat on a stick) Devil crab that was straight out of a box and still frozen in the middle. But the capper was the jerk chicken. Seriously, dry and bitter! How do you make chicken bitter??? Bartender was same old rude guy that's been there forever. I hate writing negative reviews but this rescue was an epic fail. It sucks because the owner and his family are good people and I want them to succeed but the changes that needed to happen where the most glaring and stayed exactly the same."
  • "It took a long while for the waitress to come over and get us menus and another wait to get our order. I would have been nice have been acknowledged sooner. My hubby ordered the new strawberry drink and it came without the sugar stick that was promised. When I ordered it later it did come with it. Why the inconsistency I don't know. I ordered the ginger beer drink and it was ok. The themed glass was cute though. While the new decor is great, the menu has been paired down to chicken skewers and the service that night was Meh. I hope they stay in business as the owners are really nice."
  • "It's not a chain, It's a husband and a wife that work so much to give carrollwood a classy place, with great food and drinks. Always clean. You must Check it out.... Try Scott's getaway and jumping the shark, some of the great delicious new cocktails. Highly recommend!!!!!!"

  • A Tampa Bay Times article shortly after the makeover talks to Scott who says revenue was up 15 to 20 percent since the makeover and they are happy with the makeover.

Conclusion:

Cayman Cove has kept the name given to them by Bar Rescue and they are happy with the makeover with revenue being up about 20 percent.  There aren't too many reviews of the bar, but they are mixed with people complementing Scott and his wife and rooting for them to succeed.

With the owners filing for chapter 11 in the past and Scott being arrested due to unpaid sales tax to the state of Florida, it seems they have had some money issues.  Also the movie theater failed an inspection a few months before Bar Rescue came for the makeover, so it should be interesting to see if there are cleanliness issues at the bar.

Dirty Rooster/Lake Marie Lodge From Bar Rescue - Closed

$

The Dirty Rooster in Antioch, Illinois, which was featured on season 4 of Bar Rescue closed at the end of 2015.  The bar has been marked 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page, but as there wasn't much information at the time, no post about the closure was created.  This weekend, the bar will be featured on a back-to-the-bar special, and there is a bit more information on the closure, so I figured I would do a post.

During the Bar Rescue makeover the Dirty Rooster was renamed to Lake Marie Lodge, but they ended up going back to the name of The Dirty Rooster.

The bar closed at the end of 2015 and owner Robert Hoffman was recently trying to sell the POS system that was given to them by Bar Rescue.  In the comments of that post, people were asking why the bar was closed, and Robert stated, "That part on my show about me and Scott hating each other is real. So Scott decided to sue the bar and me personally for 125k.... That was enough to put me over the edge. Not to mention the state of Illinois get a tax on it because they saw me giving away alcohol on TV that cost me $12,000. Time to move on"

He also added, "Everything we had is for sale. But I had to pay a company to come in inventory all the equipment move it from the building. I'm now paying storage on all that equipment until the lawsuit is over. Then everything will be for sale cheap,"

We will see if anything else comes up on the back-to-the-bar episode, and if it does, I will update this post.

Hammer & Ales From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Hammer & Ales (formerly The Hammer) in Las Vegas, Nevada which appeared on season 3 of Bar Rescue has closed.  The bar closed at the end of business yesterday March 31, 2016.

The bar posted the following message on their Facebook Page:
"Most of you have heard the rumors for some time now. Well the time is is now offical and rapidly approaching. March 31st will the last day of Hammer and Ales. The bar has been sold and new owners will be reopening in may from what I hear. So enough with the sad news. Time to get down here to help us go out having a great time. Come see your favorite bartender, eat your favorite burger, and wash it down with a cold one. Think back upon the great memories we have all had together. The Hammer staff thanks you all for your loving support. Now get your ass down here and lets go out Hammer style."
Eater Vegas reports the bar will have a different concept with the new owner and will be named Owl.  Hammer & Ales has been marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates Page and this is the sixth bar from season 3 (1st set) of Bar Rescue to close.

Bar Rescue - Pastimes on 4th (O'Kelley's at the Ballpark) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in St. Louis, Missouri to try to rescue O'Kelly's at the Ballpark.  O'Kelley's at the Ballpark is an Irish pub right near Busch Stadium which is where the St. Louis Cardinals play.  The bartenders are wild and the owner's livelihood is at risk due to her nephew and an unqualified manager.  The bar is supposedly losing $6,500 a month and $700,000 is debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, O'Kelly's at the Ballpark was renamed to Pastimes on 4th, and they have kept the new bar name. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Pastimes on 4th since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:
  • Cool place! Great food and nice atmosphere. I really like the remodel. Just blocks from the ballpark and the large outdoor beer garden make it an awesome pre-game hangout.
  • Great place to chill with family and friend...Good food too
  • Ball park village is an immense place with multiple places to eat. If you like typical American cuisine this is the lace for you. I wasn't there for any games so it was very peaceful when I ate with a friend.
  • Let me start by saying that if there was an option to give zero stars that is what I would do. I'm not even sure if words can truly express the horrible experience that we had here tonight, but I shall try to convey to the best of my ability....The only positive thing I can say is that the space is beautiful and I love all the brick walls....About 35 minutes later he came out with the nachos (mind you we were the ONLY customers in the establishment) and said that he was incorrect and that they didn't have the chicken (because he wasn't sure how old it was and didn't want to serve it). The nachos were huge, but completely devoid of flavor - probably the worst nachos I've ever had...the hamburger had no seasoning, chips were stale, lettuce wilted...I complete waste of $13. We picked at them for another 30 minutes while still waiting for our now 1 sandwich to come out and decided to cut our losses before the Only go here if you want to be disrespected! Rude to the customers.experience got any worse (still the only customer).

  • Here is the Pastimes on 4th Facebook Page and another Facebook Page which still has posts but they are duplicate from their other page.
  • Owners Lance and Andrea Ervin also own Mama's on The Hill (Mama Campisi's) which is a restaurant in St. Louis known for toasted ravioli.  That restaurant was featured on Food Network's Restaurant Impossible in October 2013.  An update for that episode of Restaurant Impossible talked about how the restaurant probably wasn't struggling and didn't need a makeover.  The comments on that update pretty much confirm they were probably not a struggling restaurant
  • A comment on a local article about the makeover says, " I stopped by O'Kelley's/Pastimes after the taping and I was informed by the (now) manager that he was called in before the show by Taffer to "act as the drunk that makes a turn around by the end of the show". This man is far from a drunk and is hardly an incompetent." Kim from the episode also comments on the article.
  • The bar was listed for sale in April 2015 and is apparently still for sale according to Loopnet for $575,000.  A Coldwell Banker listing says it is fully rehabbed (most likely due to Bar Rescue) and lists what is included in the sale.

Conclusion:

The bar has kept the name of Pastimes on 4th given to them by Bar Rescue and there are not too many reviews, so it is hard to determine what people think.  There hasn't been a St. Louis Cardinals game since the makeover, so business may pick up when baseball season starts due to the proximity of Busch Stadium.

The owners Lance and Andrea were able to get their restaurant to appear on Food Network's Restaurant Impossible, and now they got their bar to appear on Bar Rescue.  It doesn't seem like they are in need of the makeovers, but perhaps they know how to convince producers that their story makes compelling TV.   The bar has been listed for sale for some time, so maybe they are trying to get out of the bar business and focus on their restaurant.

Bar Rescue - Franky T's (Freaki Tiki) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Clearwater, Florida to try to rescue Freaki Tiki.  Freaki Tiki is a tiki bar that was once grossing $1 million a year, but is now supposedly losing $6,500 a month.  The owner is neglectful and the bar is in need of many repairs.  Also a used condom is found in the bar while Bar Rescue is there.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Freaki Tiki was renamed to Franky T's, and they have somewhat kept the new bar name, but it seems they are going with Franky T's Dive Bar now. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Franky T's since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Reviews:

  • There are not too many reviews, but here are some from Facebook
  • A Yelp review talks about the plumbing issues that are apparently not fixed - "I went to the restroom which wasn't sparkling but not bad either. When I flushed the toilet I noticed it didn't flush, so I held down the handle and it started to swirl but then I heard the other two or three toilets start to bubble. That tells me they have major plumbing issues that they're ignoring."

  • By looking at their Facebook Page, the bar name went from Franky T's A Sporting Bar to Franky T's Drinkery, and it is currently Franky T's Dive Bar.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of the owners Frank, Shawn, and Woody.
  • The Franky T's Facebook page posted this after seeing the episode description/preview of the episode: "Jon Taffer is no stranger to finding rats, roaches, and raccoons inside the bars he rescues. But his discovery of a used condom at this rundown Florida tiki bar redefines owner neglect. Owner neglect? Cleaning crew comes through 5 nights a week, sweeping and mopping behind bar, so if you buy this I have some swamp property for sale, cheap in the everglades. Join us Sunday for the TRUE story with question and answer session after the episode.. Dance party after with Matt the Bratt. Come party with us. LOL."
  • The description of the bar on its Yelp page says, "We were formerly the Freaki Tiki Bar, Jon Taffer of Bar Rescue came in Dec/2015 and made us a "Sporting Bar" the concept didn't take, so we are now Frankie T's Dive Bar. An upper scale "Dive Bar' with nautical theme, Great Food and awesome drink specials. We are a full liquor bar, live music every Wed. 730 pm til 1030 pm and DJ spinning on Friday and Saturday nights."
  • There is some discussion on the Facebook Page of a security guard from the bar and it says "Lets just say i wish i would of been in the islands during his visit but couldn't bail on Woody n Frank...We all took his scripted show n staged bullshit like men....It wasn't pretty..." Followed by someone asking, "Holy crap...they script that abuse?" and Franky T's responding, "No, but they "lead you" lets say"
  • On Woody's Facebook page, he seems very disappointed in how he acted for the show and says things such as, "was so mad head was spinning and first time in my entire life I was speechless, we all are disappointed in how we were not true to ourselves because of cameras SUCKS"
    • He also replied to someone, "maybe you can come visist me when I'm in jail out there for flying out to kill some reality tv star, LOL"
    • Woody's review of Franky T's on Facebook says, "The rebranding after the mediocre job Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue attempted is AWESOME. You should check it out!!!"
Conclusion:

Franky T's has somewhat kept the name, but they have ditched the concept installed by Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue.  They now go by Franky T's Dive Bar and are marketing themselves as "an upper scale dive bar with a nautical theme." The bar doesn't have too many reviews but apparently there are still plumbing problems at the bar.

The owners of the bar(especially Woody) seem to have some bad things to say about Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue.  They are not happy with how they acted for the show and say they did it for the cameras.  They also deny that the condom found in the bar was due to their negligence.  Apparently they may come out with more information after the show airs, so if anything of interest comes up, I will update this post.

38th Floor Bar From Bar Rescue To Close

38th Floor Bar (formerly Mandala Lounge) in San Mateo, California recently announced that they will be closing at the end of the month.  The bar appeared on season 4 (2nd set) of Bar Rescue and the episode aired in April 2015.

On April 19th, the bar posted the following message on their Facebook Page:

"Dear Friends and Valued Customers,
The 38th Floor Bar will be closing for good at the end of April. We will be operating through April and sincerely hope you will join us for our final weekend blowout, “THE LAST CALL” on the 29th and 30th.
It has been my great pleasure to serve the community of San Mateo for the last decade. The opportunity to build strong and sincere friendships with people who arrived to me strangers has been a great joy. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout the years. Your patronage made it possible for me to live my dream of owning my own business.
I couldn’t have made it through the ups and downs without the unwavering support of my incredible wife, family and my steadfast employees. Of special mention are my good friends Adam Florendo and Zack Munsey. Adam bartended side by side with me in the trenches for 5 years during good and bad times and Zack showed up for me when I needed him most all the way to the end. Additionally, I want to recognize the fantastic DJ’s I have had the pleasure to work with who have provided the soundtrack for all of the good times.
I want to thank Jon Taffer and the entire Bar Rescue crew for choosing us to be a part of the Bar Rescue legacy. I will be forever indebted to them for giving us a second chance to recreate ourselves as the 38th Floor Bar. Unfortunately, this opportunity has not been enough to combat months of declining sales and debt burden.
It is with happiness, not regret that I move on. I have had the opportunity to take a journey not many make. I look forward to the next chapter as I continue to pursue an enduring dream of having a career in law enforcement.
Again I thank all of YOU…the people who made it all possible. I hope to see as many old and new friends before the end of the month. We are going to have one fantastic final weekend! To you I raise my glass and say “CHEERS!”
Respectfully,
Greg Hawkins
Proprietor
38th Floor Bar"

So it looks like owner Greg is thankful that Bar Rescue came and gave them a second chance, but it wasn't enough as they still had debt and sales were declining.  Greg was recently on a Back to the Bar special (first aired March 27th) and said that they were up 40%, doing great, and chipping away at debt.  He also confirmed that Bar Rescue worked out for them (Link to Video).  Apparently that was not the case.

This will be the fourth bar from season 4 (2nd set) of Bar Rescue to close, and when the bar closes at the end of the month, it will be marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Update Page.

Bar Rescue - George & Dragon Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Phoenix, Arizona to try to rescue George & Dragon English Pub and Restaurant. The owner Dave supposedly let the bar go downhill after the death of his mother.  The bar has been open for over 20 years and he is supposedly drinking his profits away and gambling his way to ruin with his weekly poker tournaments.  Bar Rescue says the bar is $700,00 in debt and losing $5,000 a month.

During the Bar Rescue makeover they decided to keep the bar's name of George & Dragon.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for George & Dragon since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Cool English place on Central Ave downtown...Great brews on tap....Overall, we had a good experience and would definitely come again."
  • "Great atmosphere and cheap beer. Owner is a great guy that has a lot of pride in his establishment and is very friendly. Honey sriracha wings are delicious."
  • "I'm a regular at this place. It's got a warm ambience, awesome location, nice music and chicken curry to die for! I also like the fish and chips and flaming chicken creole. They've revamped the menu, I'll be checking out the new items soon..."
  • "The food here is really good...the problem is the service. It wasn't very busy but we waited a very long time for our drinks and then even longer for the food. It got to the point where we wondered if we should leave or not because we had other places to be. We were there a little over an hour for just getting a bite to eat. Very awesome if you have the time and don't mind slow waiting. Prices are reasonable and food is DELISH! So is the IPA"
  • "not a big fan of the remodel, kinda liked it because it was dive but the food is still good and most of the bartenders are pretty awesome and the owner is pretty fun so i guess its fine. Best wings EVA!"
  • "Staff is always great and the food is too....They were on Bar Rescue recently and honestly, I loved the bar before, and I still love it. Its the same great place, just spruced up a bit."
  • "This was a neat little place. We tried it last night for the first time. Nice choice of beers and a full bar. The service was a little slow, but the server did apologize for that. The food was fantastic! Definitely worth checking this place out."
  • "Previously the fish fry was barely tolerable. Now, it is THE fish fry I have been searching for since moving here from the NE. The fish fry is excellent, the coleslaw is great. The service is good. I dunno not much else to say? Only thing - I miss the old booths. The new tables are pretty wobbly. I won't take off a star for that though"
  • "So the old booths are gone, replaced by pub tables and a refreshed slightly more upscale décor. Still a great assortment of brew as well as authentic English pub fare and the owner, a true publican, is working the clientele. Glad for the revisit."
Negative Reviews:
  • "I understand "Bar Rescue" did a show here. Sad thing is the service is worse than before. Ordered a Balvenie 12 year old with a splash of water. Waitress brought out a drink with water and ice. When I mentioned it wasn't what I ordered, she looked at me in disbelief. She really though Scotch comes on the rocks by default. Really doesn't matter. I'm not coming back. damn shame."
  • "As far as dive bars go, this one is pretty bad. They have the worst service I've ever seen in a pub. Their food isn't much better. The only good thing I can speak that they do well is consistency. They are consistency awful. Even with their new renovation it just feels like they polished a turd."
  • "Slow service and $17 for a double Glenlivet during happy hour- the drink was obviously not a double and sat on the bar for 20 mins before being brought to our table, so it was watered down. We pointed this out, and the waiter did nothing about it and still charged us full price. Ridiculous. "
  • "0 stars....We waited for over 40 minutes after the beer fest...two servers and no menu or water offered...could not find a server....not prepared...not good..,go some place else....super crowded and no help..,left after 45 minutes...."
  • "I'm not usually that fussy but I really prefer the old dive. The new changes feel inauthentic. The general sleaze has been replaced by fake character. The bright lights (in a bar?) make this an unappealing place to hang out. "

  • Here is the George & Dragon website, which was recently re-designed.
  • The bar was renovated in 2013 and David was ready to take out another loan for more renovations when Bar Rescue called (Link).  In October 2015, the bar posted on Facebook that they wanted to update the bar, so they had plans to update it on their own.
  • On Tuesday April 5th, the bar posted, "Yes there is poker tonight" on their Facebook page, so they still have poker at the bar.
  • On April 19th, David posted, "I'm ready to blow my money at the George and Dragon poker tournament like john tafer said on bar rescue lol, wanker it's a free tournament no money involved" After seeing the episode description, David also said, "Let the bullshit begin. Don't you think he should've investigated and found out that there is no gambling at the pub it's free poker, wanker lol"
  • David is also telling people to come to the watch party at the bar so they can hear what really happened on the show and to hear the truth. Here is his personal Facebook Page.
  • There are over 300 Yelp reviews for George & Dragon and they have a 3.5 out of 5 star average (Link).  That many reviews and an above average rating makes you think they get a lot of business.
  • Kind of random, but owner Dave Wimberly was on The Price is Right in 2013 and ended up winning big by winning a motorcycle, car, etc. (Link)
  • In 2007, there was a local article that claimed there where ghosts at the bar (Link).

Conclusion:

The bar was able to keep their original name after the Bar Rescue makeover, which is probably what the owner wanted as it seems like he was looking for a renovation.  The reviews since the Bar Rescue makeover are leaning towards positive with people liking the atmosphere and food, but there are also complaints about the service.

George & Dragon is still having poker nights, but apparently it is free despite what Bar Rescue would have you believe.  Dave said he will reveal more during the watch party at the bar, so I will update this post if he reveals anything of interest regarding the episode.

Bar Rescue - The Cajun Belle (Grinders Sports Bar) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Santa Clarita, California to try to rescue Grinders Sports Bar.  The owners decided to buy a pizzeria for $77,000 and turn it into a bar, however their renovations were not approved by the city and the city has threatened to shut them down.  They have spent $100,000 dealing with the city during renovations.  They are also supposedly losing $2,500 a month and are over $250,000 in total debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover Grinders was renamed to The Cajun Belle and they have kept the name . Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Cajun Belle since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • " love this place!! The staff is all so friendly; every one of them. Recently renovated and redone; looks awesome! Great selection of beers; including my fav IPA. The food is very good. I highly recommend the jambalaya and the pizzas are amazing (dough is out of this world, roasted chicken and andouille sausage my fav). Great music and live entertainment several nights a week. Pool table and dart boards."
  • "That being said the staff is very nice and very helpful. The blond bartender I just mentioned probably seems to work two to three times harder than any other bartender I have ever encountered at any other bar at making sure everyone is happy. Knowing you'll be treated nicely should give you more confidence in visiting if you are still on the fence about giving this place a try. As far as the crowd goes, this was probably one of the nicer bars in Santa Clarita. At all most all other bars, the crowds have been loud and obnoxious in some form or another but I noticed the atmosphere here to be quite nice and relaxed."
  • "Nice atmosphere. I went on a Wednesday night and I ordered guacamole, bacon wrapped jalapeños, and a few beers, the portion sizes are good and the selection of beer is good. The bartender Sterling is super polite and she always made sure I had a full beer in front of me.... I am pleased with my overall experience... I hope this place gets a lot more regulars because it's a feel-good environment."
  • "Great spot! Great beers on tap. Awesome service. Tastes treats! The owners are very very nice. I always have fun here! They have a pool table, karaoke and live bands. Nice local bar. It's a plus that I can walk to it too!"
  • "The best food. Great staff. Always a great time when we are there."
  • "Get there early if you want a table for the band. This place is so much fun and they book really good bands!"

  • The reviews before the makeover were pretty good with a 4 star out of 5 average on Yelp (Link).
  • For the second week in a row, somebody from Bar Rescue has previously appeared on The Price is Right.  Bartender Sterling was on the show in 2012 and won over $5,000 in prizes (Link to video).
  • During the makeover, Jessica posted, "And thx guys for the support! I am sad to hear people say...I hope I like your bar after they finish. What people dont know is that the city has been so tough on us that we would have closed without this project. Anything done to Grinders is a blessing!"
  • After the makeover Jessica posted on her Facebook, "If anyone in Santa Clarita is buying a business please go to City Hall and verify the business you are buying is permitted. Our city does not have a business permit program so when you purchase a business the legality of the permits is not verified by escrow. I learned this the hard way.....please listen and learn. Be smart about your investment!"
  • In a recent interview with Jessica, she said they have created a new logo and have added back some of the fun stuff Jon Taffer took out.  She said they took Jon Taffer's best ideas and combined them with their own and they consider the rescue a success.  She also said it took nine days.
  • In another recent interview with Jessica, she says, “We literally got saved by it. That’s not fake at all. The only reason I’m here today is because of the show. Otherwise I’d be gone.”  The article also says, "The bigger story of Murrie’s experience sinking her life savings into Grinder’s Bar will appear in Canyon Country Magazine next month, in order to not betray the benefit of surprise in the show, but suffice it to say, changes were dramatic and life-saving for the bar."
  • If you want to look at the permits for the bar, here is the City of Santa Clarita permit search.  Type in 18283 for street number and soledad for street name and they will come up.

Conclusion:

The bar has kept the name The Cajun Belle and they have combined the Bar Rescue changes with their own ideas, but they have redesigned the logo.  The reviews since the makeover are all positive, and it seems like the main issue with the bar was dealing with the city of Santa Clarita.  The owners seem happy with the makeover and said they could have been closed if Bar Rescue didn't come and help them out.

Nick's House (Y Not III) From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Nick's House in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which was featured on season four of Bar Rescue has closed. When Bar Rescue made over the bar in 2014, it was called Y Not III and Jon Taffer decided to rename it Nick's House, which the bar kept.

There isn't much information about why the bar closed as their Facebook Page has pretty much removed all posts and their website was taken down.

There was an event posted on Facebook for the last night in business on April 30th and the description stated:
"Nick's House has been home to BROKEN for a while now and we are very sad to see this place close it's doors. However, we are lucky to have the opportunity to send Nick's out in style for it's last night open....."
Another Facebook post from a band said they were playing the last Metal Monday at Nick's House the Monday before the bar closed.

Also, a few people commented on the original update to let me know that the bar was closing.

This is the fifth bar from season 4 (first set) of Bar Rescue to close and the Bar Rescue Updates Page has been updated with this information.

Bar Rescue - The Bridge Lounge Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Tarpon Springs, Florida to try to rescue The Bridge Lounge.  The Bridge Lounge is co-owned by Anna Cladakis, who is engaged to PGA Tour star Jon Daly.  The bar is a local fisherman's bar that was impacted by the BP oil spill and is supposedly losing $4,000 a month.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer and the show decided to keep the name of The Bridge Lounge, but added "A Local's Bar" to the bar sign.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for The Bridge Lounge since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • A newly renovated bar from Bar Rescue. The inside feels clean for what I could see, half of the lights inside were off. With the lights being off, everyone was on one side of the small building. It seemed very crowded and I was confused as to why they were not turning the lights on so we could all spread out. The have 5-6 specialty cocktails that sound amazing! I definitely want to try each one.  Very nautical theme, maps line the walls and there is even a large steering wheel inside!..Definitely a locals bar. There were all kinds of people inside enjoying the bar! ....Note!!! You CAN smoke inside and they DO NOT have a ventilator. The two ceiling fans they do have were off and about 80% of the bar was smoking. It was very off putting, I hope they eventually put in a ventilator.."
  • "The best bartender ever! Lili.... So attentive and sweet. Involved everyone in conversation young and old. Lili made sure we all had drinks, and remembered our names and what we were drinking. WOW, what a hidden gem of a bar. Very small place, but very clean and quant. Clean bathrooms, only one for gals and guys, but for the size of the place it fits. Very nice! Karaoke too... "
  • "great place to stop and unwind after a work day everyone makes you feel welcome great karaoke sound system way to go gary......"
  • "Come on, what isn't there to love about this place...a friendly, local, family owned bar with great staff and great patrons. Been there several times (and I come up from Sarasota) and have had great times each time....check it out, you won't regret it one bit!!"
Negative Reviews:
  • "Don't waste your time. Still has the Smell of cigarette smoke, crowd that is better suited for a moose lodge, hot dog water food, and a staff that wasn't friendly at all. Far better options down the street"
  • "As soon as we walked in, you could smell the smoke. Everyone we talked to said after they had one drink, they were out of there. We felt the same way. Don't know if they replaced the carpet but they obviously smoke in there. Very dark. Decorated very nicely but difficult to see well because of low lighting. Bartender was new and had little knowledge of remodel. Bathroom was dirty and needed work."

Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in December 2015.
  • Here are three preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2, Video 3.
  • Here is The Bridge Lounge Facebook Page and they are having a viewing party for the episode.
  • Here is the Facebook Page of co-owner Anna Cladakis.
  • Crissy Cladakis sued her parents, Anna, and Manny in 2008 for $95,000 of owed management services.  Crissy went three years without talking to the family because of this.  She also filed for bankruptcy around 2011.  Things were resolved out of court though and they obviously still talk (Link).
  • John Daly and Anna Cladakis got engaged in 2014 after seven years together and Anna will be John's fifth wife.  John met her through promotional activities with Hooters.
  • A 2005 article says that Anna Cladakis had a baby with Outback founder Chris Sullivan.  They reached a support settlement of $7,500 a month which amounts to $1.58 million by the time the child is 18.  The article also stated Anna lived in a $510,400 home
  • John Daly's estimated PGA career earnings are over $10 million (Link).  In 2015, he claimed he had casino losses of around $55 million throughout his years (Link).
Conclusion:

There was no name change, so obviously The Bridge Lounge kept the changes installed by Bar Rescue.  The reviews of The Bridge Lounge are mostly positive with people liking the locals feel of the bar, however there are also complaints about the smoke inside of the bar.  There weren't many reviews of the bar before the makeover, so it isn't clear if they were struggling.  You would think with John Daly and Anna Cladakis' past, they would be able to support the bar, but maybe they were selected for Bar Rescue as they made an interesting story or Jon Taffer is a fan of John Daly.

Bar Rescue - Aging Room At Cirivello's (Cirivello's Sports Stop) Update

$

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Long Beach, California to try to rescue Cirivello's Sports Stop.  Cirivello's is co-owned by a group of friends/investors and GM Danny has them in danger of losing all of their money.  The bar is supposedly losing between $12,000 to $15,000 a month and they are $375,000 in debt.  Cirivello's is also supposedly four months from closing.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer somewhat changed the name of Cirivello's Sports Stop to Aging Room At Cirivello's. After looking at their social media, they pretty much go by Cirivello's. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Cirivello's since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "We haven't been to Cirivellos in a few years, so i was a little nervous going in here based on some of the recent reviews. However I was extremely happy with everything."
  • "Prices are a little high, which is why they earned 4 stars, but food specials kind of even it out I guess... Give this place a chance. I will continue to visit this place as I believe in local small business."
  • "Andrea is a great bartender and always takes care of us when we come in! She is attentive to our status and greets us with a big smile!"
  • "Live Music! Great Atmosphere! Lots of Seating! Nice & Beautiful Bartenders! Great Food! I like it, I like it a lot!!! They did just get done with a Bar Rescue, and I will have to say it looks fantastic. Went in for a Birthday Party and we had a blast, though some of those Lakewood Locals look a little shady... But hey they were not bothering me. "
Negative Reviews:
  • "Okay so let's get this straight. This is a SPORTS bar correct? So my friends and I decided to go here to watch KOBE BRYANT's LAST GAME as a LAKER. What does that automatically tell you? That the place is going to be SUPER PACKED. And what do you guys do? Have maybe one freaking girl on staff who was busting her a** to help everyone as much as possible. I don't blame her I give her props. Unfortunately, she couldn't do it alone. We ordered some REGULAR fries and we got them an hour and a half later. Whenever we wanted more beer, we had to remind you guys 10x times for it. "
  • "The remodel looks great, but my husband and I received the same, "not so great" service at the bar. We've been there for dinner with the kids and it's always been very good. It just seems that when we go to the bar, we get ignored by the wait-staff. "
  • "This place is very poorly managed!!! drinks took about 26 min. The food was very good but wasn't brought out to each guest who ordered it instead server went around asking guests if they had what the server was holding in their hand....If you want to make this establishment work, hire more staff that cares and carry enough product for each night. We won't be back"
  • "AVOID this place at all costs! Service was non existent. It took FOREVER to get our drinks. Not kidding you, 30-45 minutes for 2 margaritas. They need to shut this place down. Booooo! Wish I could give it ZERO stars."
  • "There was one waitress/bar tender there and she wasn't really a people person that day. She wasn't rude, just wasn't anything. It took around 15 or 20 minutes to order and another 30 minutes to get the food. The food wasn't that great. It wasn't crap either, it just wasn't worth what it cost. Maybe this place is better if you're drunk."
  • "I have been here a few times. Before "Bar rescue" and after. I see no difference. I feel that some of the staff is rude. And I feel they don't schedule proper staffing for special events. I will not come here again. This is just my opinion."
  • "Worst place EVER!! If you are Italian, you would prefer Olive Garden for god sake!! It's a disgrace to have an Italian name. If you enjoy a low budget combo between Chuck E Cheese and 2am at a Laker bar in shitsville, this is the place for you. Don't go for the food, don't go for the atmosphere.....well, just don't go at ALL!!"
  • "It is difficult to get service at this bar, which makes many people leave. The owners are shooting the breeze when they should hustle so their customers don't walk out. The few waitresses they employ are overworked."
Other News and Links:

  • The Bar Rescue makeover happened in February 2016.
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website - Video 1, Video 2
  • Here is the Cirivello's Sports Stop Facebook Page.  Also here is a Cirivello's Bar and Grill Facebook Page where people have been checking in.
  • They do not have a website as far as I can tell as their domain is expired.
  • Here is a Aging Room at Cirivello's Instagram page, which is the only thing online that has "The Aging Room" in its name.
  • Cirivello's has a bar side and a restaurant side, but Bar Rescue only made over the bar portion. (Link)
  • There are a lot of reviews on Yelp since the makeover, so if you want to read more, here is a link. Owner Justin used to respond to Yelp reviews, but he hasn't responded to any of the recent ones.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of owners Valerie, Danny, and Justin, and bartender Breann. Here is Breann's Instagram page as well.
  • According to Danny's Facebook, he also owns a bar called The Dog House.  That bar also has a lot of bad reviews about service (Link).

Conclusion:

The reviews for Cirivello's since Bar Rescue did their makeover have not been very good.  People seem to like the makeover, however there are a ton of negative reviews about poor/slow service.  It seems like they are short staffed and the kitchen cannot get the food out fast enough.  If they want to make it, they should address this problem as soon as possible.

Back Beat Piano Bar From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Back Beat Piano Bar in Southfield, Michigan which was featured on season four (4th set) of Bar Rescue has closed. When Bar Rescue made over the bar in 2015, it was called Jazz Katz and Jon Taffer decided to rename it Back Beat Piano Bar, which the bar kept.

While there wasn't any official announcement of the closure, all of the signs point to the bar being closed.  They had a GoFundMe with hopes of raising $7,000 that has been taken down.  Their website and Facebook Page are down and their phone number is no longer in service.  I also emailed owner Tamika about the bar being closed, but received no response.

Back Beat Piano Bar is the first bar of season four (4th set) of Bar Rescue to close and the Bar Rescue Update Page has been updated with that information

Power Strip and Proving Ground Bar & Grill From Bar Rescue Have Closed

Two Detroit area bars that appeared on Bar Rescue (Season 4, 4th set) have recently closed:  Power Strip (previously Chix on Dix) in Detroit, MI and Proving Ground Bar & Grill (previously The Hooch) in Dearborn Heights, MI.

A fan of the website posted the picture to the right on the Bar Rescue Updates Facebook Page which showed Power Strip for sale and a number to call. The number is Brown Business Brokers, which has the listing on their website described as "Edge of Detroit Topless Bar - All new inside and out. Property and bar available at bargain price."

I called the number and was told the asking price was originally $1 million, but has now been dropped to $600,000.  I was also told the owner is selling because he doesn't want to run it himself and has lost his manager (assuming Darren).  The price includes the liquor license, topless license (which is supposedly expensive), the building, the land, and all of the equipment.  I also confirmed that Power Strip is currently closed and the new owner would have to get alcohol, new dancers, etc.

The other bar that recently closed is Proving Ground Bar & Grill/The Hooch.  Owner Chandra posted this on her Facebook Page on May 23rd, "Well... the bar is now closed ... forever.... thanks BR !" On the comments of that post, she has replies saying there wasn't enough money to keep it going and that they were doing MUCH better before Bar Rescue.  Chandra also replies to a comment that references Jon Taffer saying, "Worst mistake in my whole life."

The Bar Rescue episode of The Hooch was pretty controversial due to the way Chandra acted on the episode, which caused many fans of the show to leave 1-star reviews and caused The Proving Ground/The Hooch to take down their Facebook page.  The bar was listed for sale after the show and it looks like it sold for $225,000 on May 26th (Link).

With Power Strip and The Hooch/Proving Ground closing, this makes three recent Bar Rescue closures in the Detroit area as Back Beat Piano Bar also closed.  The Bar Rescue Updates Page has been updated to show Power Strip and Proving Ground as 'Closed' now.
