The Chicken Bone (The Bone) From Bar Rescue To Close For The Summer

The Chicken Bone in Framingham, Massachusetts, which was on season 1 of Bar Rescue announced today that they would be closing for the rest of the summer.  The Chicken Bone was renamed to 'The Bone' during their Bar Rescue makeover, but they quickly went back to their original name.

In a status on their Facebook Page, the bar stated:
Dear Friends of The Chicken Bone:

Summertime has always been a very slow time of year for us here at The Chicken Bone. Many people are away on vacation and/or enjoying outdoor activities. This, combined with the changes in the economy and the rise in cost of living expenses, means we all have less money to spend on eating out and entertainment.

Up until last summer, The Chicken Bone had always been open 7 days a week. Last summer, in an effort to minimize the impact of the slow season, we reduced our operating hours and decided to be closed on Mondays. We have made the difficult decision to suspend our operations for the entire summer this year, with a re-opening scheduled for right after Labor Day.

We want to thank all of our staff and all of our customers for your friendship and support over the years. We know that The Chicken Bone would not be the special place that it is without all of you. We hope that you enjoy the summer and come back to see us in the fall for the great food and live music that The Chicken Bone is known for.

We will close beginning Tuesday June 17th and re-open after Labor Day. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

Sincerely,
Bill & John

You would think that in a place like Massachusetts that business would be better in the summer than in the winter, but who knows.  Whether they follow through on their word of re-opening on Labor Day remains to be seen, so this will be one to watch.  For now, this bar will not be marked as closed on the Bar Rescue Update list, but if anything changes, there will be another update.

Bar 702 (Sand Dollar) From Bar Rescue Has Been Sold

Bar 702 in Las Vegas, Nevada, which was featured on season 3 of Bar Rescue has been sold and is under new ownership.  This happened in May 2014, and a post on their Facebook Page stated:
"So as some of you may or may not know Bar702LV is now under new ownership and the calendar is staying the same. We are really excited about the new endeavor!!!"
Also, the About Us section of the Bar702 website now says:
Hi Everyone!! My name is Brooke Alexander, and I am the owner at Bar 702.

I moved to Las Vegas two years ago, after running and owning a string of successful bars in Chicago. But I always wanted a bar in Las Vegas. My dream finally came true in May 2014. I found Bar 702, and when I learned of the history as the Sand Dollar Lounge, I knew it was the perfect place.

Of course nothing worthwhile comes easy. I know of the struggles many bars have had trying to succeed in the Las Vegas market, and particularly how hard the Sand Dollar was hit back in the mid 2000's. I look forward to the challenge of making the Sand Dollar Lounge at Bar 702 the coolest place to be in vegas!

Staying true to the roots of the bar, we are going to focus on live entertainment. Having great bands here nightly is going to be our main objective. We want you to know that no matter what night you are looking for something to do, you will find the best music in town. During the week we will have many recurring events including things like our popular open mic night, funk jam and other local bands. On the weekends we will be booking a variety of local and touring acts, featuring different genres like hard rock, classic rock, blues, reggae, ska and much more. You can always take a look at our schedule to see who is playing throughout the month.

But we are going to be more than just live music. We will have many big screen TV's for you to come in and enjoy all the sports action week in and week out. Football, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, Soccer...If there is a game or sporting event you want to see, we will turn it on for you.
So come on down to the ALL NEW Sand Dollar Lounge at Bar 702, and introduce yourself. I look forward to rockin' with you for many years to come!
You may recall that Dr. Wilkes, one of the previous owners of the bar, is suing Bar Rescue and Jon Taffer, but who knows if that had any impact on their decision to sell the bar.

Side Note - a podcast on Real Sports Talk had the new owner of Bar 702 and many other owners that have appeared on Bar Rescue to talk about their experience and to give updates on their bars.  Here is the link if you are interested.

Bar 702 has been marked as 'Sold' on the Bar Rescue Updates page, which has updates for all Bar Rescue episodes.

Dual Ultra Nightclub (Cashmere) From Bar Rescue Has Closed

Dual Nightclub in Raleigh, North Carolina, which was featured on season 3 of Bar Rescue has closed. They seem to have closed some time in May 2014 as they stopped updating their Facebook page and had the following statuses on their Twitter page:

When somebody asked them on Twitter if they were closed, the bar responded with: "Yep. Bar sold. #RIP #ThatShowIsTheKissOfDeath"

I reached out to the bar to ask why they closed, and they said"owner received offer on the property and decided it was time to sell. The owner got out of the bar industry."

This episode is mostly known for the "All In" manager James aka DJ Blue Steel. I reached out to James to ask him why the bar closed, and he decided to take a shot at Jon Taffer.

A local article shortly after the Dual Nightclub episode aired said that James wasn't even the manager at the time the Bar Rescue episode was filmed.  He left the bar in February of 2013, but was asked back to do the show because Bar Rescue supposedly said they wouldn't do the show without him.  While filming the show, James said it was "coached reality" with the producers egging him on to behave badly.  The article also said that one of the cocktail waitresses on the show was a friend of the owners and never actually worked there.

Dual Ultra Nightclub has now been marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Update Page.  Visit that page for updates on all bars that have appeared on Bar Rescue, and Like Us on Facebook or Follow us on Twitter for additional updates.

New Episodes of Bar Rescue Begin In October

Bar Rescue is currently filming new episodes for season 4 of the show with recent stops in Long Island and Yonkers, New York.  Jon Taffer recently revealed that season 4 of the show will premiere in October on Spike TV, and that there will be 30 new episodes.

The 4th season of the show was originally supposed to have 20 episodes, but it looks like they added another ten.

Judge Says O'Face From Bar Rescue Should Be Allowed To Renew Liquor License

$
0
0
You may recall back in May, the Council Bluffs City Council voted against renewing O'Face's liquor license due to their appearance on Bar Rescue and the negative publicity surrounding the bar.  O'Face appealed this decision to the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division on July 28th, and on August 11th an Iowa judge ruled that O'Face should be allowed to renew their license.  The judge ruled that there wasn't enough evidence to support the denial of the liquor license, and that Council Bluffs didn't provide the episode of Bar Rescue on which it relied on to deny the license.  The only evidence was owner Matthew Overmyer's testimony, and based on the limited evidence, the judge ruled to reverse the decision of rejecting O'Face's liquor license renewal.

This decision is still not final, as it can be appealed by either party within 30 days.  Also, the Iowa Beverages Division does not have to agree with the judges decision.  If they do not agree with the judges decision, Matthew Overmyer can then appeal to the district court.

Another thing that is interesting is the testimony of Matthew Overmyer at the hearing. The full document is here, but the highlights include:
  • He was told during their audition video, which had a staged fight, that the footage would only be shown to Jon Taffer and Spike TV executives.
  • When the film crew arrived, they "wanted to show chaos at the bar, including fighting, disorderly conduct, and an empty bar without customers."
  • The bar was not open to the public or regular customers during the filming, and Bar Rescue provided the customers for the stress test to complain about the food, drinks, and service.
  • Both fights on the episode were done after the Bar Rescue crew suggested they needed more drama.
  • He said he told the film crew that he was done with the "shenanigans" and would not cooperate with filming any more staged scenarios.  The crew left saying they would use the footage they had.
  • Matthew was surprised and embarrassed to see the casting video as part of the footage of the actual show.
  • O'Face has seen a decline in business since their Bar Rescue episode aired.

It is pretty much things we assume and have heard with other Bar Rescue episodes, however it is interesting that he says they told the crew they were done staging scenes which caused them to leave.

Would Jon Taffer have walked out on this Bar Rescue if O'Face continued giving the film crew what they wanted?  Or are we to even believe what Matt claimed?  I guess the only people that know for sure were the people involved in the taping of the show.

Here is just a reminder that the fourth season of Bar Rescue begins in a little over a week.  The first episode of the season premieres on October 5th at 9pm on Spike TV.  The fourth season will have 30 episodes, but these will most likely be broken up into segments such as the third season and will probably not air 30 straight weeks.

So far, Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue have filmed episodes in New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia for the upcoming season.  The season premiere is at a bar in Huntington, NY, and a preview of the episode is below.  Jon finds bugs in their liquor bottles, then tries to make the owners take a shot of the liquor with bugs in it.

Bar Rescue - P's and Q's Auto Body (Artful Dodger/Radio) Update

$

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, the season 4 premiere, Jon Taffer and crew are in Huntington, New York to try to rescue the Artful Dodger.  The Artful Dodger is also known as Radio and has an 18 and over night at the bar to try to draw a bigger crowd.  The bar also has an infestation of mosquitoes and fruit flies, which have also made their way into the bar's liquor bottles.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Artful Dodger/Radio was renamed to P's and Q's Auto Body, and it appears they have stuck with that name.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for P's and Q's Auto Body since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Reviews:
  • "Great atmosphere, great drinks, fabulous service. In love with the new and improved P's and Q's auto-body. Went here on a Friday night at around midnight. Was shocked to see the drastic improvement to the place."
  • "The pros: Bartender was nice and willing to discuss the upcoming Bar Rescue episode (airs October 5th). ....the interior and decor were fantastic.
The cons: Music was way too loud for the upscale vibe they are looking to project. Also, the bartender poured himself a Sidecar when I ordered one and had a sip while we were there."
  • "Very cool vibe- great place to sit and have a great time with friends listening to music. Not to mention the bartenders are super nice and the cocktails have a nice kick! Huntington needed a place like this! Definitely will be returning!"
  • "Stopped by at 6 pm yesterday for a drink, and it was closed.   If these guys just changed the name and plan on keeping the same hours as Radio, I give it six months."

 *Reviews from Yelp

Other News and Links:
  •  Here are two preview clips for the episode (one and two); however you can watch the full episode with the Spike TV app before it airs.
  • The bar has a few too many Facebook pages. Here is the P's and Q's Auto Body Facebook page. Here is the Artful Dodger Facebook Page, a Radio Huntington Facebook page, and a Huntington Speakeasy Facebook page,
  • Here is the P's and Q's Auto Body website, and the signature cocktails are $12.25.
  • The Artful Dodger also had another location in Smithtown, NY, which they closed abruptly in August of 2013.  Despite being closed, they still have their Facebook page active and are promoting P's and Q's, so add another Facebook page to the list.
  • From a 2011 article about Artful Dodger, "the Artful Dodger is 23+ guys, 21+ girls; but you can get away with 21+ guys as long as you have some hot chicks with you."  So, they went from not allowing 21 and 22 year-old guys to an 18 and over nightclub with Radio.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Brian (owner/promoter), Mike (bartender), Jen (bartender), and Brittany (bartender).
  • Looking at Brian's Facebook page, his last post about P's and Q's Auto Body was on August 16th, and he has recently been posting about another bar name Aura, so it appears he may no longer be involved with P's and Q's Auto Body.
  • After watching this episode, it looks like Bar Rescue is now allowing the employees of the bar to change outfits from day-to-day, which doesn't allow the show to edit the show however they please.
  • For this episode the bar didn't serve any food, but they still had two experts, a bartender and a service expert.
  • Jon Taffer will be live tweeting during the episode using the hashtag #TafferTalk if you are interested in following (Link).
  • Here were the reviews of the Artful Dodger before the makeover, and they are pretty bad.
  • The update at the end of the show said sales increased around 30% six weeks after the re-launch.

Conclusion:

Since the Bar Rescue makeover in July, it seems that P's and Q's Auto Body has had mostly positive reviews.  They have also stuck with the name change and the speakeasy concept installed by Jon Taffer.  It appears that Brian is no longer promoting P's and Q's, but that is not confirmed yet.  The bar may also want to cut down on the amount of Facebook pages that they have.

Bar Rescue - So Yo Craft Bar (Undisputed) Update

$

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Yonkers, New York to try to rescue the Undisputed bar.  The Undisputed is a struggling bar, and they are serving cheap liquor poured into top shelf bottles to rip off their customers.  This causes customers to brawl and even the Bar Rescue crew is not safe from the chaos.  They also have ground beef and other foods not stored at the proper temperature.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Undisputed was renamed to So Yo Craft bar, which specializes in craft cocktails, and it appears they have stuck with that name.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for So Yo Craft Bar since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Positive Reviews:
  • "You need to come to Soyo! Nice and chill atmosphere, tasty drinks. Ask for Blue! He's the man!"
  • "In short the location is designed very well with a great city vibe, the scampi wing are still my favorite. This bar has good food , an average city decor by Manhattan standards. A great local taste of craft cocktails in Yonkers"
  • "The Main Quesadilla Burger was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had....Although it was a bit loud, we had a really good time and will definitely be coming back soon!"
  • "Made my way to the Soft Opening & Grand Opening. It is very upscale, the new menu is great, and The "Eclectic Blue" is the best Craft Drink on the menu. Bar Rescue did a great job with the renovations, plus Kiko & Brian (Owners) are adamant about keeping it this way. Congrats."
Negative Reviews:
  • "Bartender was completely horrible. Babbled on and on about nothing, and completely forgot about the drinks she was in the process of making. It sat it a glass for 10 min In front us unfinished until she stopped flirting with the guy next to us and realized that she never finished our drinks. Food was amazing. Ordered another drink and she totally blew us off cause she was busy trying to take the guy next to us home. We complimented the chefs on our way out but will never go there again because of the horrible bartender."
  •  "We sat down and ordered, and waited for our drinks and food. The Drinks came fast, but that was the only good thing. The food came, well some of it. My girlfriend didn't get to eat because not only did her food not come, but the waitress decided to NEVER COME BACK TO MY TABLE....I suggest not going there, it hasn't changed, and I really wish it would. They need new staff or they need to sell the place because Jon Taffer or not, this place is going under."
*Reviews from Facebook, Yelp, Urbanspoon

Other News and Links:
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode (titled "Thugs With Mugs") that show bad bar food being served and the cheap liquor being sold as top shelf liquor which sets off a "brawl." (Link)
  • Here is the So Yo Craft Bar website with menu, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook page. So Yo stands for South Yonkers.
  • Here is a YouTube video of the owner Brian talking about the new bar and he seems to be stressing the fresh ingredients.  He also has an Air Jordan T-shirt with a chain on, while the dress code requires a collared shirt.
  • Below is a 4-minute YouTube video of Brian and Miguel talking about the changes, and they seem to be happy with all of the changes, and feel hopeful about the future of the bar.
  • So Yo is already offering multiple deals on Restaurant.com (Link)
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Brian (owner), Miguel (owner), Sylvia (bartender), and Blue (bartender).
  • Sylvia said she "use to work there" referring to the bar, so it appears she is no longer there.
  • The mayor of Yonkers hosted a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting ceremony outside of the bar shortly after the makeover. (Link)

Conclusion:

The reviews of So Yo Craft Bar are mostly positive with people liking the new change in atmosphere as well as the food; however there were a few complaints about the service.  The owners seem excited about the changes and are sticking with the craft cocktail concept installed by Bar Rescue.  The city of Yonkers seems to have support for the bar with the mayor showing up for a grand re-opening ceremony.

Bar Rescue - 5th & Vine (Rhythm & Brews) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Staten Island, New York to try to rescue Rhythm & Brews.  Rhythm & Brews is owned by three brothers and started out as a "booming success."  Now the bar has been overrun by bikers, who have driven away other customers.  The bikers pour their own drinks and make their own food, and chef Josh Capon is even able to walk in and make himself a pizza.  Fireworks are also set off inside of the bar during this episode.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Rhythm & Brews was renamed to 5th & Vine, which is supposed to be a wine and cheese type bar, and it appears they have stuck with that name.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for 5th & Vine since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Positive Reviews:
  • "Beer was cold And food was awesome ... Got the wings calamari and flat bread pizzas they were awesome...I think it's a nice spot and now a relaxing chill spot to hang , good luck to them I hope this does better than what it was before it was rescued ... Also bathrooms have been improved !!!"
  • "What a beautiful transformation! Comfortable, modern decor. I don't drink much booze, but I noticed the bar was well stocked with premium brands. The wines I selected were held at perfect temperature and fairly priced....Plenty of room in that open space. Staten Island is lacking a nice low key wine bar...Owner (I think) Stu, seems nice enough. I wish them much luck."

Negative Reviews:
  • "Wine is good, service is alright .. Waitress was great . Food is horrible . If you want a glass of wine and just hang out it's cool . Eat before you come here because you will wait an hour for lunchable snacks !!!"
  • "Good wine. Worst service I've ever had. We got ignored the whole time and it took an hour to get food (that was terrible) when there was only 4 tables."
  • "Classy Bar and Clumsy Ownership has really dropped the ball! Do not waste your time going here, it is as fake as the owners attempt to change."
*Reviews from Yelp

Other News and Links:
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode that show everyone making their own food and pouring drinks. (Video 1, Video 2)
  • Here is the 5th & Vine Facebook page, which is kept up-to-date, but doesn't have the best grammar.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Erik (owner), Stu (owner), and Jolene (bartender).
  • Right after Bar Rescue came, 5th & Vine was hiring servers, bartenders, bar backs and cooks.
  • Here is a Facebook post on Erik's page, where he says "our show will be even more ridiculous and unbelievable!" than Walking Dead, and "It's all about entertainment"
  • Here are some posts on Stu's (aka Stumanchoo) Facebook Page about Bar Rescue:
    • When Bar Rescuewas scheduled to come film - "Saturday night. Don't really want to get into specifics. But things you thought you heard. Well it's a Coming. Saturday night we need to be wild we need to b busy. So come LETS Get clumsy Saturday night. It's gonna change our life and Stumanchoo will be that fun guy again. Cause he can indeed change! So at 11pm my life begins again. I expect all that love me, b at Brews sat night. Love you. Can't wait to walk on sunshine again"
    • A week before the episode airs - "Next Sunday I expect Bar Rescue to have best ratings ever. Yes it's tv. But my own true story of how I live is deep, get ready for for a hell crazy episode. And if u know Stumanchoo I throw myself out there"
    • Referring to people commenting about the bar on a local website - "And to all the bashers on si live. Some that I know personally. How could u. You should b proud of us for trying to do better. Instead of exposing us to ur insults. I'm above the fray. I hope everyone does well and I hope to one day laughing at this note w a cigar in my own big house."
  • The reviews of Rhythm & Brews before the makeover were not that bad and people said it was always crowded with a younger crowd. (Link)

Conclusion:

The owners of 5th & Vine have kept the bar name and wine bar theme, and the reviews have been  mixed.  People like the wine and the atmosphere, while the food has mixed reviews and there are some complaints about service.

Judging by the Facebook posts of the owners, it seems like they really played it up for the cameras.  With good reviews and people saying it was always packed, maybe this is the reason they were selected to be on the show.

Bar Rescue - Tres Cuartos (Laguna Lounge) Update

$

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Jersey City, New Jersey to try to rescue the Laguna Lounge.  The owner Ivan is more worried about DJing than running a successful bar.  He also berates his staff and his sons, which is causing issues at the bar.  The only food menu items at the bar are empanadas, which are made by Ivan's mother at a location other than the bar, which is not up to code.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Laguna Lounge was renamed to Tres Cuartos, which translates into three rooms.  Three rooms make up the bar, and it seems that the bar has stuck with the name.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Tres Cuartos since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Reviews:
There have been no reviews of Tres Cuartos since Bar Rescue came and did the makeover.

Other News and Links:
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website.
  • Here is the Tres Cuartos Facebook page, and website which is just a menu.
  • I got an email saying that Tres Cuartos charges $6.95 for tostones, while there are a lot of Latin places around there that charge around $2 for them.
  • Here is the Facebook pages of Ivan (owner) and Aida (mother/empanada maker) and Twitter page of Jeremiah (bartender/Ivan's son).
  • Ivan is selling two pool tables on his Facebook page, so it appears he is keeping the Bar Rescue changes and not putting the pool tables back into the bar.
  • Jeremiah credits Bar Rescue for "fixing things" between himself, his father, and brother. (Link)
  • Ivan is known as DJ El Comandante (The commander) and Jon Taffer referred to him as "El Moron-te."  A few weeks after the makeover, Ivan said business was up 30 percent. (Link)
    • Comments on that article refer to the bar's bad reputation and refer to things such as bullet holes, fights and switchblades at the bar.
  • Here is a local message board talking about the makeover, which talks about the noise, fights, and unruly crowds in the past. (Link)
  • In 2011, there was an arrest at the bar after an unruly crowd had some disagreements with police officers (Link).  A comment on that article said there are fights at the bar every week, but this one made the papers.
  • In May of 2014 (3 months before the filming), Ivan's son Joshua was arrested and accused of being in possession of four pounds of marijuana and a handgun in Jersey City. (Link)
    • Someone in the comments of the above article accuses the owner of Laguna Lounge of being a dealer and selling from his business.

Conclusion:

There have been no reviews of Tres Cuartos since Bar Rescue came and did the makeover, but it seems that they have kept the name.  The bar has quite the bad reputation from situations that have happened in the past at the bar and for the clientele that attends the bar.  For the bar to succeed, they will need to clean up their image and try to avoid any more negative press.  With Josh's arrest before the show, they may be hiring another bartender soon.

Bar Rescue - Jack's Fire Dept. (Jack's Ale House) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Sunnyside, New York to try to rescue Jack's Ale House.  The bar is owned by three firefighter brothers who can't stop fighting.  The bar was inherited from their father and they recently went through renovations to rename the bar to Jack's Ale House.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jack's Ale House was renamed to Jack's Fire Dept., which has a firefighter theme.  It appears that the bar goes by both names, or is simply referred to as Jack's.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Jack's Fire Dept. since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Only 1 Review after the Makeover:

  • "Went here last night w a group for a birthday. Service was terrible. Waitress was slow and it took 45 mins for a quesadilla and fries. A couple of times we has out drinks served to us with a few missing drinks. The crowd is a neighborhood crowd and rude to say the least. The makeover is cool but thats about it."
*Review from Yelp

Other News and Link:
  • Here are two preview videos of the episode from the Spike TV website.
  • Here is the Jack's Facebook page which is kept up-to-date, and the Jack's website, which both still say Jack's Ale House.
  • The bar was closed for a few days after the makeover to finish things up and to train staff.  The bar also said it was an amazing experience. (Link)
  • Brian McGowan was asked if he was happy with the makeover, which he replied, "We’re delighted with the work they did.  They really turned the look of the place around. Look at the bar, that’s a vintage fire truck design. We’re very happy with the way the outside garden area has been transformed too.” (Link)
  • From looking at the comments on an article right after the Bar Rescue makeover, and another article in 2012, it seems that the McGowans have a lot of people saying they are great people and that they hope the McGowans succeed.

Conclusion:

It seems that Jack's has kept all of the changes to the bar done by Bar Rescue, and they also seem to have support from the local community who want to see them succeed.  The only review had complaints about the service and crowd, but liked the makeover.

Bar Rescue - 2nd State Lounge Alleged Bar & Pizza (Lickety Split) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to try to rescue Lickety Split.  The bar is owned by a former Philadelphia detective who cashed in his 401k to buy the bar.  He is supposedly losing $2,000 a month and is drinking too much, which is causing him to be disrespectful to everyone.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Lickety Split was renamed to 2nd State Lounge and Alleged Bar & Pizza.  It is a split concept, and the bottom floor is the Alleged Bar & Pizza, while the upstairs is the 2nd State Lounge (Pennsylvania was the 2nd state to join the union).  It appears that the bar has recently dropped the Alleged Bar & Pizza name on the first floor and goes only by 2nd State Lounge.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for 2nd State Lounge/Alleged Bar & Pizza since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Reviews:
  • "We each ordered a "famous" peach Bellini which were lacking much alcohol but still delicious. We perused the menu, eyed up the pizza comparing it to slices past, and reminisced about what Lickety Split once was...Upon leaving we made our way down a dark alley to avoid the danger that is South Street on a late Saturday night....Taffer, I think you failed on this one. I give it a year."
  • "My husband and I randomly found this gem today! And we are so glad we did! Cheesesteak and pizza was fabulous and our bartender/waitress (Coco?) was so kind and even helped us tourists find some good stores and must-sees in Philly! Will definitely be back!!!"
*Reviews from Yelp, Facebook

It was never about licketysplit it was about making a TV show nothing else!"  He followed that up with, "They put a new top on over the old bar! They tell you what to say over and over again and if they don't like your answer they have you say it again! When the camera is off that's it! It over no talkie talkie! The big lie it's all about commercials!"  He also said, "Oh I can be sued for a million dollars, for saying this!!!"
  • In a September post on the 2nd State Lounge Facebook page, the bar claims they were lied to about the amount of money that would be put into the bar for Bar Rescue
  • An October post on the 2nd State Lounge Facebook page had a picture (pictured below) which said, "Thank you bar rescue for the not free storage and how neat upside down on its side and broken! You guys are the best! Go a head and sue me!"  So apparently the show put the old stools in storage not so nicely, and the bar had to pay for the storage unit.
  • Here is a Reddit thread of people talking about the bar, in which someone was at the grand opening.
  • A recent story on Philly.com said, "Management stripped away the Alleged window decorations and restored the TV that blares ESPN. On the second floor, renamed 2nd State Lounge, drink specials are gone and comedy nights and music acts have been reinstituted."

Conclusion:

Since the makeover, the bar has gotten rid of the Alleged Bar & Pizza name downstairs, and only goes by 2nd State Lounge.  Tom doesn't seem too pleased with the makeover and has said not to believe that it is reality TV because he was coached with what to say and how to act.  He also isn't happy with how the show dealt with his old furniture and dared the show to sue him for talking multiple times.

Bar Rescue's The Chicken Bone Remains Closed And Is Up For Sale

The Chicken Bone in Framingham, Massachusetts, which was on season 1 of Bar Rescueannounced in June 2014 that they would be closing for the rest of the summer, with plans to re-open after Labor Day.  Many people saw the writing on the wall and figured that they would be closed for good and it appears that they would be correct.

Labor Day passed, and the bar didn't re-open.  Then, the bar said they would open on October 3rd, and they later updated customers to say there was a slight delay and it would be October 10th.  That date passed as well, and the bar kept stringing along customers saying they still planned to re-open.  However, a few days ago, it was discovered that The Chicken Bone was listed for sale on Bizquest for $175,000.

The Chicken Bone addressed their customers on Facebook about the restaurant being for sale, stating:
"Hello Fans of the Chicken Bone,

By now many have seen information that the Chicken Bone is for sale. It saddens me to say this is true. When we closed for the summer we had the full intention of re-opening. We worked with a prospective new management team to try to be ready to go as soon as the summer was over. Delays and resulting economic conditions have made us unable to continue. When we realized this we found a buyer who was committed to re-opening as The Chicken Bone on October 1st . As the day came and passed it became clear that this buyer did not have the resources to move forward. We are in the process of looking for a solution and remain committed to the Chicken Bone brand.

Please accept my deepest apologies to all who love the Chicken Bone and have so patiently waited, as well as the bands who have stuck with us and been so patient though this difficult time. I have been trying very hard to connect with a serious buyer who has the capacity and fortitude to rebuild what I have damaged. My passion for The Chicken Bone will never fade. It is clear, however, that I simply had too much going on and I lost the confidence of many of our faithful guests and friends. I am sorry for letting you down. I have certainly paid a steep price financially, but worst of all, I hurt the place we all love. I'm not exactly sure what will happen from here. I don't know if I will find a buyer who believes, as I still do, that the Chicken Bone is a viable entity. A buyer who can provide the proper management and ownership oversight to build this place back up to being the place we all knew and loved. If you believe in the Chicken Bone as it was and want it back(minus me) that’s cool, I get it, please share this correspondence with your friends and let your feelings be known here in this forum and elsewhere.

We’ll continue to update you on the fan page as things progress. When new management is ready to come in and re-open, perhaps under even a new name, we hope you’ll give them the same loyalty that I was honored to have while running the Chicken Bone.

Thank You,
Bill Rodenhiser"

This bar will now be marked as 'Closed' on the Bar Rescue Updates page, and this is the third bar from season 1 of Bar Rescue that has closed.

Bar Rescue - Osteria Calabria (Plush) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Glenside, Pennsylvania to try to rescue Plush.  The bar has supposedly gone downhill since the owner Bruno divorced his wife Shari.  Shari is now back to help Jon Taffer do recon on the bar and to help try to turn around the bar.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Plush Nightclub was renamed to Osteria Calabria.  Since the makeover, the bar has somewhat kept the name as they refer to the bar as The OC, which is short for Osteria Calabria.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Osteria Calabria since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Reviews:
  • "Now Osteria Calabria. Good location. Pleasant, engaging staff. Small. Good value. Has potential. Per staff statements, they are still trying to pull the pieces together after the Bar Rescue....THE FOOD IS TERRIFIC AND THE PRICES ARE REASONABLE! Clearly, our experience was a result of staff errors/confusion - that is a shame. We may return in a few months hoping that staff is more capable."
  • "I say this place doesn't last more than 6 months if they continue to have it manager and waited by people who have absolutely no idea what they are doing or the capacity to have enougj people on staff period....Also..... It had a stale smelling carpet and terrible decor with a black ceiling that looks like a nightclub or strip club."
  • "Plush was a place we would visit about once per month, usually for a Kez Theater show and it was never outstanding, but the food was decent, the orders taken correctly by a really nice staff, and the drinks were pretty good. The decor was 'funky' but appropriate. What this place needed was a 'freshen up' of their look and a menu enhancement. Then came Bar Rescue...The mural looks like a 9th grade art project which got a grade of C-. The walls are dark and with a black ceiling, it's uh... cozy...The poor wait staff looks apologetic and I feel for them. Why? Because it looks like this place is doomed...Obviously we won't be back and from other comments from other patrons.... this bar/restaurant is in big trouble."

  • Here is the Osteria Calabria website and their food and drink menu.
  • Here are the Facebook pages of Shari (Bruno's Ex-wife), Chris (bartender), and Lisa (bartender).
  • In this post on Facebook, Osteria Calabria said that they did not apply to be on Bar Rescue, but that Bar Rescue called them to see if they wanted to be on the show.
  • The reviews before the makeover were not too bad.
  • Osteria Calabria thanked Bar Rescue and Jon Taffer for the makeover and new concept/look right before the reveal (Link).
  • Osteria Calabria covered up the mural on the wall and posted a message on their Facebook saying, "No more giant penis on the back wall!!!"  Below is the mural after Bar Rescue (left) and what it currently looks like (right).
  • In October, the bar removed the marble tile bar top installed by Bar Rescue and went back to their old bar top with coins, bottle caps, etc.  A Facebook picture of their bar top said, "Welcome back old friend.."
  • The bar was referring to itself as The O.C. after the makeover, and they actually removed the sign installed by Bar Rescue (pictured below left) and created a new logo which says The OC. Bar + Bistro (right):

Conclusion:
The reviews of Osteria Calabria are mixed since the Bar Rescue makeover and there were multiple complaints about the interior (mural, dark colors). The bar has rebranded as The OC Bar + Bistro, which somewhat keeps the name installed by Bar Rescue.

The reviews of Plush before the makeover were not that bad and the bar said that they actually didn't apply to be on the show, but Bar Rescue called them.  I guess a free makeover and publicity was enough for the owners to agree to be on the show.  Since the makeover, they have removed the bar top installed by Bar Rescue and have covered up the mural.  I am sure the other features such as the  POS system and new tap lines remain.

Bar Rescue - Lake Marie Lodge (Dirty Rooster) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Antioch, Illinois to try to rescue the Dirty Rooster.  The bar is a lakeside bar, and the owner Rob spends more time swinging from the rafters of his bar than managing his staff.  While doing the recon, Jon Taffer steps away and says he will not help the bar until he sees some changes in the owner.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Dirty Rooster was renamed to Lake Marie Lodge.  Since the makeover, the bar has kept the name of Lake Marie Lodge, however their Facebook page still has the name of the Dirty Rooster.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Lake Marie Lodge since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Reviews:
  • "Great Burgers. Super friendly staff."
  • "Stopped in the bar this last weekend. Nothing to brag about . The actual bar and bar stools were nice. The floor looked nasty. The windows were super dirty. Service was slow and the place only had a few people in it. No real reason to ever stop back in"
  • "Went there on Friday night to check it out. There were some camera guys shooting. Possibly some follow up shots? I had never been there before it got "rescued" so I don't have past to present comparisons. Agree with the bar stools being really comfortable. The service behind the bar was lame though. I asked what the new drink specials were and the bartender said they didn't have any. I was suprised by that since the show always puts together the new house drinks. My fiance said the womens bathroom was not finished either. Interested to see the show about it."
  • "Yeah. It was the Dirty Rooster, but had a nasty dirty parking lot. So, we called it the dirty parking lot. THen, on a whim, went there after bar rescue... service? Terrible. Asked for drink specials, were told there was none. not offered menus. Asked about an advertised special drink, then told they didn't have the ingredients to make it. even got a long story about how the sign was screwed to the wall, and they couldn't take it down. So... My experience... Dirty Rooster ---> Dirty Parking Lot ---> Lake Marie Lodge ---> Empty Parking Lot.  Won't go back."
*Reviews from Yelp and Fun on the Fox Message board.

  • Dirty Rooster is on Restaurant.com offering discount gift certificates. (Link)

Conclusion:

The reviews for Lake Marie Lodge complement the comfortable bar stools, but there are complaints about the cleanliness of the place and the bad service.  It also sounds like they are not serving all of the special drinks installed by Bar Rescue.

With the bar filing for a name change in October of 2014 to change it to Lake Marie Lodge officially, it appears they will stick with the name.  Also, in June (before Bar Rescue came), the bar was looking for 1 or 2 serious investors, and they apparently found someone in October as they filed for a change in ownership.

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to try to rescue the Y Not III bar.  The Y Not is a franchise of bars in the Milwaukee area, and Nick is the owner of Y Not III.  The bar is supposedly losing $65,000 a year, and Nick is one of the main reasons why the bar is losing money.  Jon Taffer says to Nick, "I've met some stupid bar owners in my day, but you get the freakin' cake."

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Y Not III was renamed to Nick's House, which is a 70's themed bar and it seems that the bar has kept the name.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Nick's House since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

There have been no reviews of Nick's House since the Bar Rescue makeover.

  • The Milwaukee Record was at Nick's House for the reveal and details their experience of waiting for hours for the reveal of Nick's House and leaving shortly after.  Jon Taffer supposedly addressed the crowd stating, "Something to the effect of “THIS IS A LABOR OF LOVE SO DON’T RUIN IT! YOU’RE HERE AS CUSTOMERS! DO NOT HIGH-FIVE ME! DO NOT TALK TO ME! HELP US PRESERVE THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION! THANK YOU!”"
  • Here is a long review of Nick's House a few weeks after the rescue from Urban Milwaukee.  They said not a lot has changed and that is a good thing.  The review is very positive and Nick says a lot of new people are coming into the bar to check things out, and that bartenders are making as much money as the bar used to make on some nights.
  • In the above review, which was a few weeks after the rescue, it states that the Bar Rescue newly installed tap system was not working during his visit.
  • Here is a Reddit thread talking about the makeover which has a few people who were there for the filming.

Conclusion:

It seems that Nick has kept the changes that Bar Rescue implemented such as the 70's theme and the name of the bar.  The ownership is the same, but apparently there is new management.  Nick also said that business has been up since the Bar Rescue changes.

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Milwaukee, Wisconsin once again to try to rescue Packy's Pub.  The bartender Guppy is drinking a ton behind the bar while on the job, and Jon Taffer is surprised he can stand up straight.  Also, the owner Patrick is supposedly failing to pay all of his employees.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Packy's Pub was renamed to Campbell's Irish Pub, which is still an Irish themed bar.  The bar seems to have kept the name.  Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Campbell's Irish Pub since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar:

Reviews since the makeover:
  • "Bar rescue makeover made tavern much more comfortable.  My wife likes going there too.  Food is good and irish coffee, Guiness, etc is great.   It is very comfortable with great bartender and nice customers."
  • "Love this place and the new look is awesome!!"
  • "Wow this place looks great. Let's just say not being a regular, but having been there enough times over the years to notice the overhaul it looks great. Its fresh. Congrats!!"
  • "love the new look and the new food! cozy, welcoming, clean and reasonably priced. The openfaced Prawn Sandwich was wonderful and fresh! The Guiness Beef Stew was very good. I did miss potatoes, but that is ONLY my personal preference. The flavor was spot on. I had a cocktail that was just what I needed. Fruity, refreshing and dangerously delish! keep up the good work! i'm bringing my husband for a great bite of Pub Grub soon."

Dimples From 'Bar Rescue' To Close

Dimples karaoke bar in Burbank, CA, which was featured on the third season of Bar Rescue will be closing some time in mid-January 2015.  Dimples is one of the few bars on Bar Rescue that Jon Taffer chose to keep their original name.  The bar is closing due to the Talaria Project, which will tear down the bar to help make room for a Whole Foods grocery store as well as residential development.

The bar has posted on their Facebook page:
"We're CLOSING sooner than we thought. Come make a few last memories at Dimples!
****DIMPLES LAST DAYS****
It looks like our last day open will be some time in MID JANUARY. We will be getting rid of all of the alcohol so DRINK SPECIALS will be going on. Plus, we will be throwing our LAST NEW YEARS EVE PARTY. More details to come. Please spread the word and share our info so everyone can say goodbye to AMERICA'S FIRST KARAOKE BAR DIMPLES"
A post on laist said the bar would like to find a new location, but as of now they haven't had any luck.

Also, Dimples' Facebook page said that Bar Rescue was filming at their bar on December 2nd to do an update segment.  It should be interesting to see if Bar Rescue reveals that they are closed when that update episode airs.

The Dimples Bar Rescue episode aired in 2013, and this will be the 5th bar to close from season 3 of Bar Rescue (1st set of 20 bars).  The Bar Rescue Update Page will be updated when they close for good in January.

Brew U in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, which was featured on the third season of Bar Rescue has closed.  Brew U was originally named Fairways Golf & Grill until Jon Taffer and Bar Rescue did their makeover.  During that episode, the bar infamously had a mushroom growing in their walk-in cooler.

While the bar hasn't said anything official about the closing, their Facebook had the following statuses on December 8th:
  • "Now that is a lot of shots....THANK YOU to everyone that showed up last night...Memories last forever"
  • "The last ones standing...Best Staff, Best Wings (people's choice winner) and most importantly the BEST CUSTOMERS.."
Other clues that they are closed:
Mushroom in the walk-in

  • I called the bar the past three days, and no one picked up.
  • Their website is no longer active.
  • A recent Yelp review on 12/16/2014 stating, "They have gone out of business so if are clicking help through groupon - don't buy this one . We really liked them while open and bought the groupon, now waiting for a refund"
  • Visitors to this site letting me know they drove by recently and it was closed.

This is the fourth bar from the 2nd set of bars (10 total) to air during season 3 of Bar Rescue, and the Bar Rescue Update Page has been updated with this information.
